  • Jonathan travels to Mexico for an up close encounter with Bull sharks, infamous for the fact that they are known to be the most dangerous species of shark to humans. He gets to try a chain mail anti-shark suit, and meets a biologist who is studying the sharks to learn more about their population and habits.

      Right. I also thought when they just swallow the fish and don't sink their teeth into something big and thrash their head around they kind of look harmless xD They just behave according to circumstance. Have you seen the video of the diver getting charged by a bullshark head on from far away out of the deep and the only way he could stop it from biting him without further interrogation was to shove his harpoon into its open mouth? ^^ That was a scary one.

      well, when you are a hungry shark anything looks like food. Bull sharks do attack in shallow water around late afternoon or early evening, especially near river mouth where water is disturbed and somewhat muddy. Australia probably has more issues with bullsharks than with Great Whites, speaking as a local.

    It is never a good idea for a wild animal to associate people with food. Considering the fact that playa del Carmen is near Cancun where u have thousands of tourists bathing on a daily basis, it can be an invitation to disaster. You never want a wild animal to lose fear of people.

      It' s just not just a couple of people. It's everywhere now and a lot of people are doing it. I dove in Cozmel where divers had been fed the sharks. One day hungry lemon shark (usually very shy) came to us and acting very aggressively. After our dive master gave some fish, it was happy and swam away. Sharks are not stupid. They learn from experience. It's no good if they start to associate us with food.

      @@SnoweVR Its not about taming the sharks, its teaching them to look at people as a source of food. I've seen the results in multiple dive sites/locations across the Caribbean. Every place sharks had been repeatedly fed, they were coming closer to people and acting more aggressive than normal. Even just leaving dead lion fish on the reef was enough to change their behavior.

    Bull sharks are very common and they are named "cabeça chata" in Brazil. What means sth like "flat head shark". Also he is blamed to more than 60 shark incidents. Most of all fatal. The curiosity about these cases is that all off incidents took place in a single beach. These beach is named "Praia de boa viagem" and it is notorious and considered one of the most dangerous beaches in the world. There has a perfect environment for these sharks and a perfect environment for accidents, like a cloudy shallow warm water.

    • @Variant1on1
      @Variant1on1 Рік тому

      It’s no accident, sharks know there’s food (humans and otherwise) there so they come back to eat.

    I have heard that feeding sharks teaches them to associate people with food and could cause them to lose fear of humans and possibly attack more often. Any truth to this?

    • @toddzelin4103
      @toddzelin4103 9 років тому +1

      Unlikely, does feeding your dog make him more aggressive? The only cases where feeding has led to increased attacks in wild life is when you change the habitat of the animal by overfeeding them near civilization. i.e. all the people who used to feed alligators with chicken right in your backyard in Florida, this of course led to more attacks because more people will coming into contact with the animals
      In general, with any animal you can think of, acting like prey or or like a threat will you get bitten else they will leave you be.

    Still a dangerous species. Never panic against them, they are fishes, so they have fish instincts. Reaction strikes happen when they sense lots of movement. This is one of the safest ways for them to identify edible species (as inedible ones generally don't bother running). However, stay too still and they will come check out with a nibbling bite as well (though not a reaction strike, still potentially dangerous).

      BlueWorldTV Yes, but what would you do if a huge swarm of bull sharks showed up? It happened with lemons while you were waiting for a tiger to show up (close call there too, as some tried to bite your camera). Bull sharks seem a little too dangerous to approach, and having them show up in large numbers is nightmare fuel!

    I wonder if the perception that sharks are dangerous stems from that fact that we, as humans, feel very vulnerable in the water.
    I would love to have a chance to swim with sharks but as I live I'm the north east of England, the only species found in the sea here are drunken Geordies and shopping trolleys.
