Qui a écouté la récente interprétation de la célébrissime mezzo-soprano lettone Elīna Garanča ? 🎼
I'm listening to it right now...;) ...a much more powerful voice. But I don't know which one is my favorite. It seems to me that the interpretation here is less "classic"

What happened to the GM7(add13) at 10'20"? It sounds a bit scary. How does anyone change the harp pedals from Eb minor to G major in literally one second? What was Berio thinking of? Great performance all round though! I love all the different timbres and changes in character that the singer gets from her voice.

Nobody understand those songs, they have being for give a vocal masterclass or show how well you sing. They were written for sound like common people, listen Cathy Berberian, she was not super stylized in this work. Also, you need a conductor for this work, parts are much more complex that they sound.
Well they are clearly doing it fine without a conductor so whats your problem?
The tempi here are usually dragging a bit. The best version remains the Cathy Berberian studio recording, the composer conducting. And the live version filmed with the same couple is much worse.
The OP said something about not stylizing. That’s wrong. Berberian herself in the reference recording is a different singer for each song. The singer here attempts the same and it’s correct. What is incorrect are the bel canto versions missing this dimension.
After the first song, Sarah Maria Sun buries her nose in her part and never looks up until the end. Very poor stage practice. The players are late on the final chord, too.
Agree, should take a look at how Berberian performed them! And the singing is I feel a little over-accurate if not mannered. She should loosen up.
Particulièrement sur Rosignolet du bois c'est pas bon du tout.
