This is like an abstract painting. It seems like a chaotic mess, but the beauty of it comes out when you look closer and think about why and how it was made. This isn't something your average deranged person could make, this is the work of an artist that set out to manifest their vision. Each section is deliberate.
in response to the listeners who laughed-- and the kids in music class-- yes, you should laugh! Writing this music, you need a sense of humor, because that's where it comes from. And the gestures. Plus, you know people are going to laugh out of incomprehension. Might as well laugh with them. Thank you Ms. Sun.
Honestly I can understand why people laugh at this but even if I don’t really like this kind of music. This is rather incredible to me... to be able to remember all of those sounds by memory and knowing exactly how many sound to make exactly when is kinda of a shook. Like what? Why? And at the same time is quite astonishing and is also really hard to take your eyes away of such an a passionate performance. Hard to hear, hard to understand, hard to stand, and yet so amazing.
This is a composition that Berio composed, he was exploring sound manipulation and sound scapes here. He wrote all of these sounds as instructions in different kinds of musical notation for the performer to follow. when a piece has an instrument (in this case it is vocal)that tries to imitate multiple instruments it becomes a sequenza. Berio was perhaps trying to encase a psychological ordeal which comes to a peaceful close in the end. this piece that seems like utter madness to the naked eye is astonishing because of how difficult it is, this woman demonstrates great virtuosity by performing this state so well.
