  • Howdy ya'll check out my latest print Namaste + my review of Cranfield Caligo Safewash Relief Printmaking Inks. Something safe for the home studio. It's great bc it cleans up with H20 and a little bit of elbow grease. Non-toxic clean up and still has the richness of a traditional oil based print.
    Info on Caligo Safewash Inks (Resource-www.dickblick.com/products/cr...)
    Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are oil-based relief/block printing inks that are easy to clean up with soap and water. Made from polymerized vegetable oil and artist-quality pigments, they produce a unique product that is suitable for all types of block printing, including wood engraving, linocut, woodcut, and letterpress printing with photopolymer plates. Safe Wash Relief Inks print on a wide range of papers with the quality, intensity, and precision of an oil-based ink yet they're safe for use by beginners and experienced printmakers. Because no solvents are required for cleanup, they're ideal for printmakers who desire a non-toxic studio environment. The Safe Wash Relief Ink range consists of a variety of high-strength colors, including a set of process colors for CMYK printing or mixing. Every color has a lightfast value of at least 6 on the International Blue Wool Scale (BWS).

    Thanks for the video. I use these inks too and they are certainly rich and lovely. I wondered if I needed to wet my paper first and I heard you say “wet paper”. Ah ha!! That’s all I needed. Ps: love your print. Metta!!

    Hi :) appreciate all the infos&tips you shared with us! Still have a question tho regarding dumpening the paper. What technique works best for you? I am struggling to get a nice crispy handprinted picture, yours seem so easy to print with very great outcome! Maybe it could be the paper itself, definitelly gonna try the other one you recommended :) For the record, i use Caligo safe wash as well.

    Really nice video that answered most of my questions about this product. I'm just curious about how waterproof the print is when it's COMPLETELY dry -- which I heard can take several days in ideal conditions. I'm planning on printing on watercolor paper and using watercolors to color it. Have you done that? Any experience? I sure do like the way this cleans up! Traditional oil-based ink is a royal pain in the butt to clean.

      I would suggest experimenting! I haven't done this but it sounds like so much fun! I am really happy this video served you! thank. you and enjoy

    I'm very tempted to use Cranfield Inks for painting with brush on cavens prepared with acrilic gesso ....insted of using regular oil colors from tube . Please tell me your opinion about this ... Thanks in anticipo !

      There is only one way to find out :D I like your experimental spirit. Let me know how it works. If it were me, I would just buy a 1-2 tubes, since they are a little expensive, and test it. They still have a bit of smell to them. Have tried water based oil paints? They might be cheaper than the cranfield? Just a thought :D

    Hi with this combination of paper and ink, what is the drying time and have you ever painted watercolor over the print?

    • @belairfreshprints408
      @belairfreshprints408  3 роки тому +2

      Hello,
      I usually wait about 24 hours and then will lightly touch with my fingers to see if the ink is still pulling off. Another option to help with drying is to place them between newsprint paper and then something heavy on top.
      I have painted watercolor with relief prints but not on this particular paper. It's possible, you may want to print a few extra just to see how the paper holds up to the mixed media approach. You could also print on a mixed media paper to ensure it could hand all the different elements.
      Hope this helps and happy printing :D

    Ps: I use cheap veggie oil to clean up. Works great.

      yes I am with you! It was nice for us because we had recently switched the oils we ingest...going from vegetable to higher quality/less processed...and then...printmaking :D It's amazing how we can use less toxic approaches to cleaning up in the print studio :D
