- Digimon Survive was delayed numerous times, and changed both game engine and developer since it was originally announced in 2018. Four years later, we have it in our hands.
Is this visual-novel based experience all we wanted from this franchise?

I’ve been randomly seeing some of my friends go online with this game on my switch and legit had no idea it was a thing lol. No idea why UA-cam decided to recommend this video to me but I’m glad it did. You did an excellent job describing what the game’s about and what you can expect from it quickly and efficiently. Nicely done and very informative.
I finished the game and the most interesting thing about the story is probably how you can make a theory connecting all the other digimon anime/game universes and explain how everything originated.
Btw, seeing how the switch had some places the touch screen worked. A mobile port would work really well, specially if you like reading things on your phone on the bed or while traveling, which is weird for me to say since I hate mobile games, but I'm started to realize... visual novels might not be a bad genre for the phone.
An iOS or Android port would work well. I don’t think I’d want to play this on my phone, but on a tablet this would be amazing.
s someone who plays VNs, sadly it's not. Basically every mobile VN is a giant cash grab with limited bits you can read a day, or you can buy more story bits with tickets, some do that AND make you pay for the best choices, etc. It's horrid.
@@SeraidenAF But I'm guessing those VN are free ones with paid content later and predatory monetization like all the other mobile games?
I was talking about simply games running on the phone, like the final fantasy tactics port where you buy it once and pay nothing else.
@@user-bf7sl3uo9p yeah, overall, some still cost small amounts then heap extras to pay for.
You will basically never find pay per route visual novels on mobile anymore. Heck a lot don't have standalone apps now because some google play changes, they no make like hub games you use points/stuff to unlock other routes and chapters now.
Also, mobile is hard on visual novels in general because of the aspect ratios and text sizes. As someone with visual snow, it's annoying AF way more than say the Switch ver of Survive is.

This has got to be one of best Digimon Survive reviews I seen. I shared a lot of feelings that you do Digimon fan, not into visual novels, knowing this was going to be more story driven and of course the fact it is a visual novel. I love this game, it respects Digimon while also doing what a lot of people been saying growing up with the fans. The topics the game tackles make the characters more relatable, Takuma is not perfect a problem a lot of protagonist have and the Digimon are just how they are in the anime(and I think the mangas never read any), they aren't tool, or monsters to collect they're characters, they worry about there partner and while they don't grow much from wanting to protect there partners that's fine as it leaves space for the characters themselves to grow. I have done 2 playthroughs in the past month for the true ending and the wrathful route on my first run. All the characters (mainly on the true route) I grow to love and relate to a lot of them from being leveled headed, the jokster, the 1 everyone can fall back no I'm noting going into detail as I want people to experience this themselves. This game is easily a very close 2nd for game of the year for me Xenoblade 3 just beating it as the gameplay catches me along with the story(not to say Survive gameplay is bad it's just I enjoyed Xenoblades 's a bit more). Please if you want an fantastic story that many can relate to on some level play this game, and with a few improvements(mainly going deeper with the battle system) this can be a fantastic new side series to go with the Digimon Story and Digimon World series.
Thank you. It seems I really should check comments more often. I appreciate what you're saying here, and I'm glad you can see where I'm coming from. I actually went back and finished the final ending I missed (Wrathful) for this game after reading your comment, so if nothing else, this game owes you for another couple of hours of playtime. I'd love to see the Digimon franchise continue this alongside the Story/Cybersleuth games, but if I have to sacrifice Survive 2 to get a darker "Digimon Story" game I would make that trade. If anything, I love how the Digimon series keeps taking these chances and experiments with their games and I'm hopeful Survive did well enough in the West that more Digimon games keep coming.
I see myself playing this game 1 more time just for the ending where EVERYONE survives. I believe there are different branching paths depending on your moral/harmony/wrath. I'm too soft hearted to go full wrath tho 👀

Fair comment. I should have been more clear that I meant going through the game a second or third time loses a lot of the impact. I found my second go through tedious, and for me, that equated to poor replay value.
I never started this game but interesting how does the endgame works ??
@@troymoviemadness7130 you get an ending after 12~14 chapters, that's all I know. Then there's +NG where your non-key items gets put forward...and you go for the _"true"_ ending

This is a pretty solid review. Personally I don't feel like it's worth full admission from the trailers I have seen so far but the concept does look good!
People who review bombed the game just for being a VN are the worst. Looking forward to future content! Cheers man!
Ye, I can see that being a big part of how people feel. It will be easier to justify for some people when it goes on sale and I can see a lot of people picking this up cheaper in Q4 near the holidays.

Pokémon is trash I feel this game continue to make more games and less novel it’s going to take over
Great video I am still enjoying xenoblade 3 but I will get to this game after I finish xenoblade 3 and fire emblem three houses
I'm doing things the other way around, played Survive first. Really liking Xenoblade thus far - still early on though.

@@troymoviemadness7130 I played FE: TH on and it does get very text/dialogue heavy at times. If you can push through it I would, but there's no shame in skipping it just to get to the battles.

I liked the story and interactions I kinda want a sequel were it parody 02 more with the main protagonist having veemon instead of agumon
I think I'd buy a DLC for this, with an additional bonus chapter or something or a bridge into a sequel, and I like Veemon/V-mon getting some love. I think there's another CyberSleuth game coming next year, but a Survive 2 would be very welcome.
@@fatelighter64 it's not a cyber sleuth game it's a story game common misconception but it will be set in the digital world like next order was and instead of having the royal knights as the main focus it's the 12 olympians minervamon merucimon disnamon etc but that's all we know
Ah, that sounds cool. The only upcoming Digimon title I was aware of, was the rumour of CyberSleuth 2 revealled by those claiming the Bandai hack. Nice to hear there's more coming up than I thought.
@@fatelighter64 well actually that it that's the only one game coming out cyber sleuth 2 was fake cyber sleuth 1 story is wrapped up but it's probably a reserve title meaning that they nicknamed it that cause its the same style game has same mechanics habu talked about the next game the one I told you about at digicon this year

I think that’s a fair comment. I can’t disagree that the majority of this game is progressing dialogues.
