Completely agree. Either an unfortunate manner, damn rude, or a Coach requiring some coaching in particular areas of communication. That said, Heather didn’t bite and the rest of the interview was usual high quality.
it's one of his standard phrases. He will have used it in the bike class that she just did. (I get coaching from Purple patch, and as @trbeyond said, he also uses it in his (very good) podcast).
Recently discovered the Purple Patch podcast so nice to see Matt in a GTN video! I think most age groupers are trying to cram in too much training. The 'more is better' mentality is very pervasive in triathlon. People want to emulate the training of the pros without understanding that their recovery will be massively different.
If you have read his book, even his recipe for off season training its still clocking at 8-10 hours. You can’t be competitive on an 8 hours of less for 70.3 let alone only 10 hours for full ironman. You need big base. If someone collects all these athletes hours on a weekly basis then i reckon 12 hours is “minimum”.
@@PhiyackYuh I'm a purple patch athlete. I'm also a junior doctor and father of 3. I also just completed Ironman Nice in 10:49. It's rare that I get 10 hours/week to train.
I have looked into TRI squad but what I still don't get is how the training will be specifically targeted to my event. My event is in June. But the tri squad calander isn't based on a june event
Sooo much great advice in this interview. Always prioritise your health as a person first. Never compromise your sleep, nutrition, relationships, mental health etc. If you are healthy as a person, you will be in the best place to achieve success in whatever training you can fit around that. I think this will help me more than any new drill or training aid.
After years of following Matt and listening to his podcast I literally just joined the PP squad this week. Time will tell how the training program works but the customer service and educational resources alone are pretty impressive.
Since you liked the podcast and other materials, I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of the squad. I was in a similar situation when I joined a year ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
That was a very interesting interview! Thanks for the great content, as always, GTN team!
Heard the "bar of mediocrity" comment and I was like "excuse me??"

He was being incredibly sarcastic. Listen to his podcast and he uses that phrase in a humorous way quite often.
Bah
They dont get the british jokes 😂😂😂

As A PP member you can race off baseline plan. That said there are race builds that can be added into the plan.

One of my favorite sessions.
Just starting a years build up to an Ironman this video was invaluable and very thought provoking. Thank you so much.
1:12 OK, it's confirmed, Lance Armstrong is back into triathlons!
Excellent!
Magic ring?
