    I am 60 years old! I used to skate at the Rink on Ashland avenue I think 89th street. and then at St. Sabina school in the 70's and 80's. I was doing all of these moves when my knees worked right...LOL. I am inspired to work on getting my skating legs back and putting my skates back on again. Hopefully my knees will cooperate! LOL. blessing to you little bro. your classes are great!

    Thank you so much for bringing these tutorials! I live in Austria and believe me when I say there are NO JB skaters to learn from anywhere near here 😅

    This has helped me soooo much. I kept saying what do I do with my foot after kicking out. I kept trying to figure it out and I woke up this morning and this tutorial popped up. I immediately stood in the mirror and tried it out and yes I got it.
    Continue these tutorials and Thank You

    Thank you so much, I’ve been learning JB for about 4 months now and I’ve really been focused on learning the original moves and where they come from. I watch so many videos but it’s always hard to learn when they’re skating so fast. As soon as you broke it down i learned them both instantly! Thank you so much!

    So I watched these videos when I really couldn't skate yet at all... like week 1 and I did all the moves but they didn't feel right and def didn't look right lol. Fast fwd to 2 months of skating and being comfortable on skates and coming back to these they make so much more sense. Totally invaluable!
    Thanks so much again for these videos! I watch other skaters and slow it down and just try to get the moves but there aren't really any other videos breaking down these moves like you so thanks!
    Also between this and video #1 anyone can have so much fun styling around the rink mixing up these moves and they aren't hard with a little practice. It really makes skating so much more fun!

    I really like the explanation and multiple angles filmed of each move. I really want to develop the feel for this style. I wish there were some simple exercises you could show to develop the trust of edges. While the lifted leg gets all the attention, there is a weighted skate supporting the whole effort. Take care.

    Hey great tutorial, couple questions -
    1. Do people learn these moves on both legs (eg. switch left for right and vice versa) or is it supposed to be this way only
    2. Why do they call it the Big Wheel? I always wondered about that name

    • @MalikThomas
      @MalikThomas  2 роки тому +2

      You can do the buckey walk on both legs but the big wheel is usually done with both legs with right side dominant

    • @MistergoodwillVibes
      @MistergoodwillVibes 2 роки тому +1

      I wondered that too but my thinking and I'm not sure but when you go down to complete the move the ending result resembles the shape of a big wheel. Left leg being the big wheel and the right leg being the seat. That's just my guess

    • @illwillbo
      @illwillbo 2 роки тому +3

      Im from chicago. From
      My understanding its called the big wheel because you wind out wide like a semitruck making a wide turn.

    I just found your channel and I already know I'm going to take my first steps of JB skating from here. 😊
    I only started skating this February, I'm 51 and had no idea that there were so many different skating styles. I'm from Europe and live in Australia, so I realise that I'm very ignorant and need to do a lot more research about the American skating culture (and American history and culture in general), so I apologise if the following question sounds stupid.
    Watching videos of different styles of skating, I'm more and more drawn to the JB style and I just wanted to ask, is there a reason why most rhythm skating videos on UA-cam hardly have any white people in it? (Apart from this style having emerged from the Black skating community). Is it just not popular among white people or we're just not good at it? 😅
