Zombie was written after the IRA detonated two bombs in the English town of Warrington on a Saturday afternoon in March 1993. The bombs were hidden in litter bins near a shopping centre and killed two children, three-year-old Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry (12), and injured 54 people.
Dolores O'Riordan was doing a style of Irish singing called keening which is used at funerals.
Please do linger, dreams and ode to my family.
Rip Dolores.
The 25 years written on the wall was because it was the 25th year anniversary of when the latest IRA resistance fighting began. 25 years of ongoing bombings.
Shortly after the song dropped, the IRA and UK came to a ceasefire agreement and later negotiated for Ireland to have some more independence and own governance. Was then end of the IRA
Thank you for your knowledge about this song.
Loved the cranberries growing up and still today…RIP Dolores O’Riordan
Fun fact, after Dolores wrote this piece of art and presented it to her bandmates, she asked the drummer, "Please, can you hit the drums real hard?" I think he did a good job. That mourning guitar, drums like gunshots... awesome art. RIP "Rose of Ireland"
I'm Scottish and lived in Mainland Britain during The Troubles and it was not uncommon to go shopping to a large city like Glasgow and have to exit the shop cause of bomb scares. I live 20 miles from from Glasgow and can remember this happening frequently during the early 80's. I don't remember being really scared because it became normalised. I also have Irish heritage so this song has always gone deep with me. RIP Delores!❤💔❤
Which is why this song HAD to happen for sure...it became so normal, so desensitized that no one was scared anymore
The troubles. My Irish family refuses to talk about it. North and South. Brutal violence.
Zombie was written due to the atrocities caused by the war in the north of Ireland, where Britain kept the Northern counties while the remaining Irish counties got it's freedom. Many innocent humans were murdered on both sides. This song was written at a time when Dolores struggled with the pointless loss of innocent souls and did something about it, hence this song was written as a plea to humanity to stop the bloodshed
Dude, it's one of the greatest songs of the 90's of course you've heard pieces of it before 😉
The Troubles a conflict in Northern Ireland from late 60’s to late 90’s between IRA -Irish Republican Army waging armed campaigns to end British rule. This was written by Dolores O’Riordan in response to an IRA bombing in Warrington England during Mother’s Day. An explosive detonated in a trash can injuring dozens killing Jonathan Ball age 3 on the scene and Tim Parry age 12 from head injuries suffered from the blast.
Its about the "Troubles in Northern Ireland." And, i think she is singing to both sides.
Yes
Yes. She was moved to write the song by an IRA bombing, and yet took on the Brits as well. What was in their heads?
We Irish cried to this track many times and we are crying again what's happening in GAZA 😢
What's worse is that the conflict in Israel has been going on far, far, far longer than even The Troubles.
I've heard this song a million times because I love it but I feel like anyone in their late 30s or early forties has heard the song and doesn't even know it and when you hear it again it sounds familiar for that reason❤ RIP Delores 😢
Thank you for taking this important and still prescient song on.
It's beautiful a beautiful song and yes it has been used in lots of movies, makes me very emotional, though I can only remember it being used im Pitch Perfect. Love your reactions ❤
Rest In Power Dolores💗💐
Eminem had this song's hook sampled in the hook, Eminem- In Your Head if anyone interested.
true talk, thanks spread the message of peace
Such a classic song. Great pick
Yes you are right ❤
Great reaction and commentary.
They were supposed to be my first concert back in 1996 but unfortunately she had laryngitis so it was canceled. Loved them!
Incredible song! Back when becoming mainstream used to mean something!
It was a Saturday afternoon in March 1993 , I can remember when it happened
Dude i appreciate what u r saying. You are too Right!
Ireland Is a first world country and they definitely have wifi But they did go through some troubles.
Hope to see more cranberries on your channel 🔥💯
Thank you for your very insightful video. Well said 💜
I LOVE your thoughts on entitlement! This song exists to teach us, to inform us. You’re wonderful!
You might have run across the remake by Bad Wolves
Fuck yeah ❤
Love your analysis!!! Truth!❤
23rd, you need to react to Fade in and fade out by Nothing more. It is a fantastic song and also the video is fantastic.
It's one of my favorite bands and songs. I still have a sad place in my heart for the loss of such an amazing singer, artist, and person.
Even more tragic is Ireland's "troubles" began with the Anglo-Norman invasion in the late 1100's AD, and got worse.
The song was in Pitch Perfect III.
💜💜💜
For a long time, I heard "Tommy" instead of "Zombie". And the date made me think it was about WW1.
Worth pointing out, the IRA were one of the paramilitary groups involved, others, such as the INLA, UVF and UDA, also played their part in the conflict.
Yes this is a master piece of art, the vocals, the music and the video....
This is the real story of what the people of Northern Ireland and the people of Britain had to put up with everyday at the hands of the IRA...
Yes about wor
I don't have the full story. I'll see other person wrote it is an Irish rock band I do know however that this was a protest to two young boys that were shot and killed..
An explosive device hidden in trash bins in a shopping center in Warrington England by the IRA detonated injuring about 15 and killed two children,Jonathan Ball age 3 on the scene and Tim Parry age 12 a few days later from head injuries.
Always loved this song …this was poppin in the day 💯 very conscious song
During 'the troubles' in Northern Ireland the UK government sent troops in. The troops/UK government supported the protestants who wanted N Ireland to remain part of the UK. They fought against the IRA Catholics who wanted an end to british rule in NI and form a united Ireland.
In not from the hood but Tupac was my light in darkness, you dont have to be a certain race to be inspired, enlighten by another man's knowledge and struggles and it can help you pull yourself out a dark place even if some would say 2pac music wasn't for me bc I'm white well your wrong bc that man I like upon as a father figure, bc our hearts and souls dont know colors only thing heart and souls do is feel.
2:12 Best as I could understand, the meaning of the gold is that Everyone rightly ought be regarded as invaluable.. rightly to be regarded as royalty even, children of God; the King. Thank you for your reaction!
Sadly, this song is still important. Stay political. Peace! No child should die at the hands of other humans. Ceasefire!
Love ya brudda. Thanks for recognizing. We look for WiFi over there, they jus lookin for somethin to eat when they get here. Ppl need to check themselves on this shz.
"Zombie" was written by band member Dolores O'Riordan and is about the conflicts in Northern Ireland during the Northern Ireland conflict in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The lyrics address the pain and frustration of ongoing violence and conflict, particularly the 1993 Warrington bombing in which two children were killed. The refrain "Zombie, zombie, zombie" refers metaphorically to the thoughtlessness and willingness to use violence shown by the parties to the conflict in Northern Ireland.
Overall, "Zombie" is a powerful and emotional song that critically reflects on the destruction caused by the conflict in Northern Ireland and is a call for peace and change.
It's about two IRA bombs that exploded in Warrington, England.
I got to see a live cover of this song by Dawn Richard who had been in Danity Kane and Dirty Money - she didn't go full rock, but those lyrics and that belt could not be denied!
@23rdMAB, to your salient point @4:10 in or so, you are vibing right now to the cluster viral re-ignition of this song, due to the Palestinian genocide happening today, all those dead kids, and people in general. I have seen dozens of reaction videos to this song just this week. You are in good company, my good man. People like you give me hope. You care. We can see it. Please, keep caring, and sharing meaningful works. Be well.
As people mention, this song was sparked by outrage of an IRA bombing.
She was calling the IRA zombies that still think it's 1916 (when there was the Easter RIsing to create an Irish Republic independent of the UK). Quite a brave act.
I love how they didn’t give a crap about musicianship here, they were just Angry! These current days seem to call for that once again. But there’s no one around, they all just rake in the money and keep their pieholes shut tight like a bankvault. It’s all love songs again, be it happy or sad.
No! The world is in a bad place, sing about that and make a difference!
This makes me think Gaza rn ....I feel for them
My man honest about how spoiled we can be.
If you like Tupac's Changes, you need to listen to Bruce Hornsby and the Range Just the Way It Is
This will break your heart 😢
You should react to the song 2Pac sampled for his track “Changes”.
It’s called “The Way It Is” by Bruce Hornsby. It’s actually sad that the important topics he talks of are still happening in 2024.
monster- james blunt
Please react to Bruce Hornsby and the Range - That's Just the Way It Is - Thanks
How can a person exist in 2024 and never heard of cranberries 😭
If u like substance u should react to Pearl Jam’s Jeremy it’s heavy
There are major conflicts between the two parties about how Northern Ireland should be governed politically. The Protestants believe that Northern Ireland should be part of the United Kingdom, but many Catholics perceive the British rule as an occupying power. Nationalists want a united Northern Ireland in the long term.
I wonder which version of the video you watched. I saw no screaming children, something that has the biggest emotional impact on anyone watching.
I think it's about mental turmoil/relationship problems. Great song. Loved the reaction ❤
Listen to Hi Ren by Ren. His songs have substance.
look more into tupacs family for answers
did you listen to jeremy and alive by pearl jam?
love zombie and dolores is great but this artist takes it to another level .check out her version live ua-cam.com/video/tkcgFzCVxLM/v-deo.htmlsi=eGXoUNPMTy_6E1Y2
I love Linger more
great reaction, hope you do more. your comment about people going to the usa ... hmm. the worlds a big place. nearly all of the inventions you use daily and rely on weren't from america. including wifi. oh, and the freedom thing. you didn't invent that either. have a look around, you might be pleasantly surprised.
the irish republican army verse england. the irish were catholic the english are not catholic, that wasnt the only issue but it was part of it.
It wasn't just England it was the uk most of the people in Northern Ireland are Scottish but they the original Irish who moved to Scotland
You need to get your facts right, it was not the IRA against England, it was against British rule in Ireland, incidentally, Irish people are both Catholic and Protestant and there
are many English people that are Catholic
@@jameswiglesworth5004 I'm not religious and my understanding of the situation is very limited (what we see on the news). Would it be fair to say that the IRA were in support of independence of the country of Ireland from British rule? Is Ireland still under British rule or Irish? RIP to everyone that lost their lives on both sides.
Crazy to hear an American still thinks he's "free" 😂
Then there's a loud BANK and the first thing they do is "duck and look for the shooter!" or "my kids are safe at school.... They have an armed guard!!"
She had the best teeth in any band ever
17 subscribers after 7 years.. who are you miss nobody. If you ain't got not got anything positive to say STFU.
Never pause music to talk. This ain't hip hop crap. Respect the artists
We are living in the most peaceful era of human history, and nobody realizes it. It's not perfect. But it's a drops in a bucket compared to everything before WWII.
Get with the programme…. Can’t you research the story behind the story?
No offense but you really should have researched this song b4 reacting.
It's a reaction channel. Most go in blind so as to get a true new reaction. How can you have a real true blind reaction it you research the song. Some do most don't. The man learnt as he went through the song.
@@martinashfield8973 that's fair. It just didn't seem he ever realized the meaning/history of the song. But it's all good.
This is old, you're repeating
And what is your point? Still so relateable!
