Rieth my auger stopped and I did the fix you showed. Fortunately my motor was still ok. It was completely jammed tight the whole length of the auger tube with solid material. And my auger was rusty so I must have had some wet pellets somehow. I think I will seal the top of the hopper with a gasket and also drain the hopper each time in the future. Thanks, I wouldn't have figured how to get that hopper off without you. One tip - unscrew the control panel first and push it into the hopper box so no strain on the wires that way.
I drilled some holes in the lid of 2-cup tupperware container and I leave that in the hopper full of crystal cat litter. I'm using the petco's generic brand because it has no scent. The cat litter acts as a desiccant. It's kept me jam-free for three summers. I use the cat litter for woodturning, too, to speed the drying of once-turned bowls and thought it ought to help keep my pellets dry when it's humid.
thanks for posting this video - i have a similar camp chef woodwind 36 - too much accumulation of pellet dust caused a bit of a fire (KEEP YOUR PELLET GRILL CLEAN!) afterwards, the auger wouldn't turn, although i could hear the fan running - when i took everything apart, the screw/nut that connects the auger motor to the auger wasn't there!? I TESTED THE AUGER MOTOR - it worked! i sourced a workable replacement screw/nut, and reconnected the auger to the motor - I TESTED THE AUGER MOTOR AGAIN - it still worked, so i buttoned it all up, and i'm smoking beef ribs (cut from prime rib) right now after watching sections of this video a few times, i didn't see a test of the auger motor, prior to putting the grill together again - no big deal, but TEST AS YOU GO to avoid some wasted time thanks again!
Very helpful. I cleaned out the auger (was real bad) and put back in and after a few minutes the fan dies out. Going to get a new motor like you and hopefully that helps. Thanks for the video.
Great job, thank you this was very helpful. On my model "Woodwind" I found that I didn't have to remove the bottom vent plate. Maybe this will save someone from removing a few screws if they don't need to. I was also luck in that the small bolt that hold the auger to the motor is what sheared so I was saved the expense of having to buy and wait on the delivery of a new one. Thank you again for taking the time to do this you saved me some time and heartache diagnosing and solving the issue.
I really appreciate this. I used to have a husband do all this, but now it's up to me. It was awesome how you showed every piece up close, what you had to use to take them out and everything!! Thank you for making this so much easier!!
Thanks for this. I got a free Camp Chef pellet grill from my brother in law. It wouldn't feed at all. He hadn't used it in a year or so and it sat outside not under a porch roof. Those pellets broke down and turned to concrete in there. With your video I got it all apart, cleaned up, motor tested (Works, Yay!) and fired up. Thanks again.
Excellent video now. I am inspired to attempt to fix my auger/motor. I was thinking about budgeting for the new camp chef with the wood burner drawer but might just not be in the market for the new new just yet! Thank you. 🫡👍
Good stuff…you might not know the names of the smoker parts but you certainly know how to fix it..it was a pleasure to watch for advice on disassembly when I found the my auger wasn’t rotating…well done..subscribed! 👍💪🔥💨
Thank you I appreciate this. In my case mine was just stuck. Once I removed the pellets and blew it out it works no problem. Thank you again for this video.
Very Helpful! So I glad I found this. We had the same problem, your video was spot on and we got ours working again. And just in the nick if time, cause the Super Bowl is tomorrow and I gotta have the grill ready :)
@@riethridge466 with that pin! I just was looking in a hurry. I took the pushing screw out but missed the pin/washer. I’m going to take it apart again now and try and get the auger out. My pellets turned to paper mache in there. :/
@@SlimDyer Oh good! Glad you figured it out. Sounds like some moisture got in there. Good luck and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thanks for watching the video!
I know it's been 2 years since this video. Are you still using the camp chef? Do you still like it? We have had ours stop about 4 times in the last 3 years. When we smoke jerky, it's uneven on the bottom rack.
Still running strong! Haven’t had any issues since and I use it every single week! I wouldn’t recommend pellet bbq for jerky or pepperoni sticks. Really, any smoking besides bbq style smoking, like ribs, Tri tip, brisket, etc.
Lucky me, the pin you need the Allen wrench for is upside down. Nut is off, but can't figure out what size Allen wrench is needed. Do you know what size you used?
Absolutely. Place the dial on "FEED" mode and engage the auger by pushing the "bypass" button. Make sure you hold the button pushed in for a few seconds.
Great video to keep on hand. I just got a CampChef dlx24 same color as yours lol but one thing I noticed is while doing the first burn in, I have a ton of smoke coming from the bottom of the smoker and next to nothing out of the chimney. How does yours come out.
Definitely below freezing at times, but not as cold as it got a month or two after I made this video. Thanks for watching the video and for the comment.
This is great! What did you use to take the pin out (4:05)? I seem to be having trouble to take out the pin holding the auger motor to the rod. Thank you!!
While you had it apart the first time I was wanting to tell you turn it on and see if the motor worked before you put it back together, " old mechanic that doesn't like doing the job twice"...
I have exact same smoker. There is clearly a flawed design of the auger. The motor is not attached with no bracket. It is completely free and only using a single panel it is laying on as a leverage when rotating. All this while the fan is attached with a bracket and 4 screws. Who would think?

very helpful....you explained things in a simple way which helps the confidence for someone who never fixed a smoker/auger driven grill
Thank you!
My smoker got knocked over due to a storm. This was very helpful. Had to re connect ground wire to the auger motor.

"Free" just means that you get to spend $150 each year to fix the inevitable repairs that crappy Camp Chef products require.
@@larmondoflairallen4705 haven't spent a penny aside from pellets so far.
This was very helpful and I’m smoking for Father’s Day! This video was invaluable.
Wow. Huge compliment. Super stocked that it helped you out. Happy Father’s Day!
Thanks this was very helpful. My Auger motor went down on Super Bowl Sunday..
Horrible timing. Glad it helped you out!!
Just followed this video -- so helpful! Bought a replacement motor for $25 off Amazon and installed today.
Glad it helped you out. Thank you for reaching out.

Had exactly the same problem, also required two disassemblies :|. This video was my guide and the best one out there for this fix. Thanks very much!
Super happy it helped you out! Glad you got it working again!

Thx for the video brother! Mine did the same today. I watched yours & was able to fix it. 🤜🤛

That's great! I'm glad you got it fixed. Thank you for watching the video!

Awesome. Happy meat smoking!
Nice instructions! Thank You!

I'm glad it helped you fix it! Thanks for watching the video and commenting!
Very good video, thanks.
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Still a great video. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. Wish there was one to fix the hot rod on the wood wind.
Shouldn't be too complicated! Their website might have a "how to" on the igniter.
I just took mine apart and didn't see the pin that connects the motor to the auger so i couldn't get any further. Thank you!!
How is the motor connected to the auger?

much appreciated.
Where did you find the part number for the auger motor? I here did you order it from?
Ordered off of Camp Chef’s webpage. They have a ton of parts available. I know some people ordered the motor on Amazon also. Good luck.
Thank you so much! I was able to switch out the motor on my Camp Chef after watching!
Good video. Did you check to see if the motor turned the first time?
Only when I put it all back together.
I have this same problem and will get a new one. Did you order directly from CampChef?
I did. I did get a comment from another viewer and said that she ordered one from Amazon for $25.
Lol, we heard gunshots during my husbands baptism. Only in the country.... 😂😂😂 ps ty for the video very helpful.

Same with mine. I actually called Camp Chef about it and they said that’s normal.
I have the same unit in all Black. You might try adjusting your chimney too!
How cold was it? Froze may be the word.

Needle nose pliers for the nut and an Allen wrench.
That was tough for me too. I ended up drifting it out with a nail set after getting the nut off.
@riethridge466 do you remember which size Allen wrench you used. My pin is upside down. Trying to feel my way into the groves
I did feed and still not hot? So frustrating
Sounds like you might need to replace the igniter rod. Should be pretty easy but for sure a bummer.
I think I may have the same problem. How much was the motor?
About $50. Here’s the link...

I know it. Haven’t had any issues since I replaced it.
One screw on the side isn't coming of its just spinning with the nut
