    Short of a recording of Liszt himself playing this concerto, this must be the closest we can get.

    7:13 The C# in his edition should be an E. Frightening that he truly plays all of the various mistakes in his edition!

    Of course...as good as this performance was, von Sauer was 76 years old and maybe not out for sheer speed. It's still a powerful performance and document.

      It is still short of 20 minutes, so not lacking in speed. It is simply relaxed.

    Feels like it is in slow motion. But I'm used to hearing Martha Argerich's version!

      I think compared with Argerich everything is slow motion!

      You'll never feel that anything played by Sauer is in slow motion after you hear his Don Juan fantasy! :P
