@@humblestever24I’ve been sailing all my life, in places right around the globe. Lauren has skills, talent, courage and the smarts. Your post misses the mark, and does you no credit.
@RoyClare I totally agree, I'd sail with Lauren, and I wouldn't interfere at all. She a great captain in her own right, and has surpassed many challenges thus far.
I’ve been in a lot of pain after knee replacement surgery and your voice and video really lifted my spirits. Your can do attitude is always an inspiration! Congratulations on the new sink. I remember the meal prep during your charter days and the culinary creations you served your charter clients so it’s a huge deal for you I’m sure. I like the way you vlog your boat projects. You hit the highlights, speed up the mundane, and then share the sense of accomplishment! In addition, your music selection always seems to be in sync with what you are doing and you make fantastic choices. Very nice video as usual. I feel you packed 30 minutes of content into a 12 minute video.
You look so rejuvenated, healthy and happy and it is good to see you like this. You are also smiling a lot ❤ You truly are a jack of all trades, don't think there is anything you cannot do. Safe sailing gorgeous 😊
One autopilot will always fail, two will frustrate you and three will get you home without the toil of hand steering. So many of those ray marine drives fail, very frustrating considering the price. Glad you have the hydrovane, consider adding a $500 tiller pilot to steer your hydrovane as your electronic backup for no wind days or you can add a electric actuator driven off the ray marine drive computer. Love seeing a young person installing these layers of redundant systems. I believe 3 autopilots and windvane combos are essential if your solo, I carry 4 and have still had them all fail or give up in the Southern Ocean. If you are going to do a lap. You are doing great build redundancy is all your systems.
As always a delight. Your technical skills are amazing as are your projects. I love your relationship with Mako. Smooth sailing is in your future... you have earned it
Great job with your Hydrovane, having used it exclusively since 1983 as a dependable crew member on our boats. You are amazing, tackling problems head-on. Keep it up. Love the cameos with Mako. He is still da man.
Hi Lauren you are doing a great job looking after your boat. But two things do concern me 1) the electrical connections of your autopilot need to be replaced with parts that are less prone to corrosion. If you need to stick to screw terminals then pls use at least ferrules (cable end sleeves) iot better the electrical connection. 2) Your new giant wash basin in the galley will be causing problems in a rough seaway. Since you need a certain water depth in the basin to clean up e.g.dishes and pots it amounts to quite some volume of water sloshing wildly around. There was a reason for the original two smaller basins. If a yard is doing it that way despite the fact that it needs more work and costs more money than only with good cause. Maybe you can use a small plastic bowl ore something as a workaround.
Doing so much work yourself is great. Cracking that bearing housing is not good. Stuff happens. Looks like there is a lot of stress on that part. I would recommend replacing it. It may take some time to get it. In the meantime you could cross drill perpendicular to the crack, if there is room and thru bolt it. Or drill down on either side of the crack and bolt on a strap to take some of the pressure off of it.
Hey Lauren, I stumbled upon your channel a couple weeks ago and I've been "hooked" watching you from the very beginning going through the trials and tribulations of boat ownership, but also being a solo sailor. As a professional photographer, I've also been amazed at all the beautiful photos and video from the various places. It's been a journey to say the least in respect of what it's really like to be solo. I'm sure you get lots of offers for things, but I'd like to extend an offer of myself being your personal photographer- being able to do drone, video with Gopro/ dslr, and still photos for content as well as some photo shoots in beautiful locations (for print selling and calendars)📷I can be your goto "gofer" to do anything from washing the boat, cooking,, troubleshooting problems, videoing, anchoring, taking night watch of the helm, and so on. In return, I'd like to glean some sailing knowledge and be able to share the amazing experience of seeing new places for however long it may be. Also, even if not interested in that, I also want to give you an open invite to come white water rafting with me (and friends) here in beautiful Southern Oregon on the Rogue River. Thanks for the great channel and good luck in 2024!🥂
You are not afraid to tackle just about any project! You have a mechanical side, not typical of a girl! That’s what I like about you, and your vids! The diving and spearing, and catching is also enjoyable! Keep the vids coming, you have a loyal watcher!
Hello miss Lauren Landers I have been watching your videos on UA-cam and heard about your ongoing auto pilot problems. Another UA-camr had a similar problem on a 40foot Braviara he said it is a calibration problem. The UA-camr is Patric Laine episode 26 4 min.
Excellent. I was thinking back to captain Lauren of two years ago and captain Lauren of today. So much confidence and hands on experience. You've never shied away from the work. I enjoy your videos whatever you show us. Thank you. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Lauren you are amazing the fact that you can fit into those tight spots and get in and do your magic is very impressive and that sink install a great improvement and again you would make a heck of a good plumber. Thanks for sharing scratch that mean old cat and tell him stop being so mean to his mama. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Cast metal is always susceptible to cracking under load ... maybe replace with a stainless part where needed ... I will say you are some kind of superwoman to do what you do .... ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊 ....
Laura, once again, another great video. Far as your steering rod depending on the diameter, you could, take the old one cut it in half, put threads on both sides of the old steering rod, and put a swivel in between the two pieces and then safety wire the swivel so it doesn’t loosen in either direction. If it works, keep it as a spare. Thanks again for taking us along. Enjoy yourself and I look forward to your next video.😎👍
Hydraulic steering and a TMQ autopilot is what the commercial guys use where I live. That is also what I used--but it was not cheap. There was something else--when the autopilot is in use, it disconnects the helm hydraulic pump and uses its own pump driven by the house batteries, so there is no manual over-ride until you switch off the autopilot, when you get your helm back instantly. That is why you need the autopilot switch alongside the helm where you can find it in the dark. A Hydrovane wind pilot is about the most useful of the unpowered alternatives. Cape Horn is another good system.
Maria, my partner, just saw Mako for the first time and she already loves him. Like me, she thinks he has a bigger than life personality. Sweetie, I'm in awe of your mechanical abilities. Maria won't let me touch power tools unless under close supervision. Which is why I have my degree in Electrical Engineering. I also didn't want to take Statics and Dynamics. I can follow your electrical work pretty closely. Congrats on the new steering systems. Looking forward to your next video.

At 8:44, you're using old screw terminals. Buy modern WAGO clamps. They are good to work with, very reliable, and the wires are always in contact under pen pressure. Wago is a top brand and I recommend you look at the whole range of terminals and consider using them.

I'm glad Mako was there to supervise the auto pilot install. I wonder if something like JB weld could at least seal the crack in the bracket until you get a new one? Cheers!
When I feel I've haven't got much refit done its a lot less what you consider such. I'm excited to see your wind vane working. My old vane I sold to Sam Holmes utilized about half way circumnavigation. The one on my newer to me boat I did some repairs but have not tested sailing.
Great work Lauren. Perhaps you can take apart the old autopilot? My hunch is that the composite planetary gear wheels are worn. If so you can get cast metal replacements for ~$100 and have a spare whole unit! Best of luck and much love❤ One question, did the autopilot issues only occur after the installation of the wind vane stainless steel? If so, it may be merely the positioning of your flux gate compass.

the t2 linear raymarine is one the best you can have today. but the garmin electronics are not. Hi Lauren, you are an amazing young women. Your projects are amazing, but where did you learn so much?
Have you checked to be sure there is no metal near the gyroscope? I had the same problem. It was a simple fix. Just moved the metal object.
“The auto pilot thing” is the Linear Drive. You will wish you hadn’t put a wind vane on earlier, must give it a name, no battery needed.
I know you have a wheel, but you really, really should explore sheet to tiller steering which has no mechanical parts to fail. Can be made to work with a wheel.
