Even though this is an older video of yours, i just want you to know i love the patience and attention to detail you show in your tutorials. Your tutorials are the only ones i can watch and actually learn.
I had a hard time following along because I'm new to chainmaille making and I'm super slow. So I would pause after each step and wrote a pattern for myself. It consists of "new" and "attach". New for when a new scale needs to be added and attach for when I need to connect the new scale to the scale already there that was added the previous round. It really helps me. But her instructions were very good, would not have been able to figure out the pattern if her instructions were bad.
I am working my way through many of your videos and thanks to you I find myself inspired to tackle many new challenges. Although I am much older I do enjoy learning new techniques. Scalemail - why not? I appreciate your thorough and very kind approach in your tutorials. I tend to be more receptive to learning in a welcoming environment. Thank you.
I love this! I've been wanting so long how to learn how to work with scales. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent !
Thank you so much!! Your video made so much more sense than so many others I tried to understand as a first time scale mailler.
finally, a tutorial that makes sense!!! thank you so much!!!!!
lol, thanks!
no one else makes sense or shows it as well as you show it and explain it!!! I discovered you yesterday and I love your tutorials and I subscribed!!

Your awesome! Your videos are so inspirational! Please don't stop making them.
Thank you, I will try my best!
This is probably the best video I've found! I know this is an older one but is there any continuation videos for this project?
by far the best tutorial! so many out there that assume we can see through their hands and don't explain which scale they are picking up and putting a ring through. Keep up the amazing work. don't change a thing
This was an incredibly helpful video!! You are very thorough and clear. I can't wait to see this final outfit! Thank you so much for your tutorials.

Very cool.
Very Cool
Best video thanks !!
love back at you
Nice scalemaid dragon
Amazing work Yvonne, thanks for this one! I'm looking forward to seeing this costume come together, can't wait for more vids on it. Also quick question, if I were to weave a scalemaille bra, would I join it together in the same way as you did in the chainmaille bra tutorial video? Great work again, I'd love to see more ways of incorporating scales into chainmaille pieces if you ever have the inspiration! xoxo
I usually have the two scale diamonds joined together with either a single scale, a mobius flower or other focal point, or have the center come together with more scales coming down into more of a breast plate. There is a variety of pictures on my deviantart: backtoearthcreations.devianatart.com that might help :)
Yvonne Williams You're the best, I'll check those out right away. Thank you!!
How would you transfer from the triangle pattern into a more squarish one? Like if I wanted to make a chest piece that started with the pointed design then wanted the edges to go straight, how would I make that transition? I'm sorry if this is hard to understand, I'm not entirely sure how to describe it. Love the video though, the best tutorial by far!
Love the video! Could you do another tutorial on scale mail showing how you could make another row that was the same number of scales you used as the previous row? Like you just made a row with using 6 scales, but instead of using 5 scales for the next row you did 6.
I LOVE IT!!
:-D
love your videos very easy to understand but i do have a question i want to be abl to attach some scales to my leather armor in some areas what would you sugest would be a great method to do so
Yvonne - love that you are so easy to listen to. Further to the question of the bra top. I'm assuming scale maille and chain maille are heavy? Thinking of a very "rad" belly dance costume. Any points you want to share on that idea?
Would 5/16 make it more spread apart? I’m about to start on this myself and was curious about your “a little more armor to it” statement. Thank you!
Way cool!
thanke you I have some scales myself that I want to make a skirt out of.
ooo, that would be cool!
That is kewl!!
I just scored a load of holographic leaves and wasn't sure what to do with them.. now I know ;)
Watch this space..
Hi, Von! Quick question. I've seen quite a few tutorials on scalemaille so far, but they all start the same way, in the diamond or triangular pattern. How does one go about starting with a line across (to start a neckline on a shirt for example)?
I would like to know this as well! Or at least how to make a triangle but with the point at the bottom. I’ve tried looking it up but I don’t really know what I’m searching for and so haven’t had much luck yet. 😞😅
Hi Von, how do you make it longer across the top? So you have a longer top so it is more square based
The bigger it gets the heavier it gets. Pulling on the first two jump rings from the first scale. Should these rings be welded or from a thicker guage?
Thank you for this. Do you have one for making a piece with a fairly straight top?
about those scale ring, I would love get my hand on some of them, so what the website you said I can find them?
I get my scales from www.theringlord.com and I sell my rings at www.backtoearthcreations.com
great how fast it seems to come together
That is something that is very gratifying about weaving scales; projects come together relatively quickly :)
What about if you wanted to make the scalemail straight for a few rows. Like 5 then 6 then 5 then 6...
Im trying an arm piece rn and need to do that and I'm confused.
I will make a video for you!
hey there! Did you ever finish the bra? I'm weaving my own scalemaille bra and I'm trying to figure out the measurements and how they work with the contractions. Would you recommend just sewing the scales to a bra I like or do you think I can get the same fit with 100% scales?
How stable are the aluminum jump rings. I find them to be too delicate. Is there something I can do to harden them?
Hello! You can tumble them with stainless steel shot, but also it helps to start with half hard aluminum wire if you are making your own. I highly recommend these rings: amzn.to/2guEGoC
I would like to do a pair of scale earrings and I would like to be able to stack them one ontop of the other however, I would like space in between the rings, how do I do this?
Can this be used to do a tail?
Hey, Cody! That would totally work!
@@backtoearthcreations please do everyone a favor and continue the amazing work you do. Never forget you are an awesome person and the stuff you make is incredible.
I want to make one of these in silver to put on the back of my leather jacket.
😄
:-D
wouldnt they shift much less if you were to either have a cord go through all scale-rings or having the scale rings have much smaller holes?
hmm, I will have to try that! :)
So how would you attach this to like, a coat?
Is there any way to go from the triangle or square shape to flat or circular shape in the same pattern?
Ok, I’m new to all of this but I have to ask: this is just a variation of the European 4-in-1? The scales are the 1 and the rings are the 4... right?
love it ! what do you need for a top ? / bra
Hey, Julia! Any regular bra or bikini top that you like the look of would work, and many of my clients wear the tops without a bra (not recommended for anyone with piercings)
HELP! I am trying to make some scalemail and im doing what I think is correct but as soon as I lift the piece it almost shrinks into one row. Any ideas why? what am I doing wrong? please I would appreciate your help thanks
Hey Von I know this video was from awhile ago but what ring size do you use with the Medium scales from TRL?
ok quick question would it be hard to reverse it were you go from wider to smaller?
Heya, Amy! It is the same concept, but it can be a bit difficult to keep the first rows stabilized. I would recommend getting the hang of going from smaller to wider before tackling wider to smaller; or attach the first row to a base of leather or chainmaille first... I am feeling another tutorial coming on, lol!
lol
that would be amazing !! love your videos and do you just have a main store in misouri or are you just online ?
how do you figure out how much material you'll need?
How many do you use and for what size?
how do you estimate number of scales needed for each project? I would hate to over buy
What size are the jump rings again? Ty
I found the information in the description
Where do you get the scales?
I found the link in the description
When you when you put in your second row there on the side is that a second stabilisation road that you're putting in or is it just one and then if you prefer to put in a next one another thing is how do you build up off of the side once you got the diamond if you want to build up like making a v how would you do that
I am pretty sure I can do this and wanted to make a hip belt that would top a costume I'm making - sort of like a belly dancer type decoration. I must be misunderstanding the website for Lord of the Rings, because it looks like it could cost over $100 just for the materials to make a hip belt. :(
i do it upside down
A diagram would be helpful for novices like me as I lost you after you went to the second row.
The stabilizing rings are put in incorrectly.
Thank you, Courtney! How would you recommend putting them in?
Yvonne Williams you add a ring to the scale then weave threw 3 as if it were 4in1 European chainmail. Check out this video from TRL ua-cam.com/video/qEmTmlpP6Tg/v-deo.html
Don't really care for that extra camera insert....somewhat distracting.
I agree, doodles; this is an older video and I'm glad I've gone back to one frame at a time. Thanks for your input!
Please stop showing us the wrong way and stay on plan. I am following step by step and when you show us what we shouldn't be doing its effing annoying. Just show the right way, I can figure the wrong way out on my own. Sorry this may seem rude but I am frustrated and going back and forth is driving me nuts.
I'm sorry you're frustrated, Alexie.
I am sorry I was rude, its a good tutorial but this is my 4th try. I WILL GET it. I just keep getting to the five row and it all turns to poop. So I am stopping and starting at each link. My frustration levels will subside once i get past row 5. Please accept my apology. You have so many tutorials on here I plan to follow them all eventually. Thanks and once again sorry.
OMG OMG OMG I finally got row 5.
