Additional comment, at 2:17:38 when Byf mentioned the whole "being removed from time entirely" thing that the Vex in the Vault of Glass can do, it's a running theory that rather than there only being 3 guardians that tried to take on the Vault of Glass, it actually was a proper 6-man Raid team like all other raids go; but the theory is that the other 3 members were erased from time by the Vex, and so, we only know of "the three" that tried to assail the Vault.

It truly is and seeing you enjoy is really awesome. Not sure if it would fit in your lore journey anytime soon but the story behind the briefly mentioned Iron lord Felwinter is a gem in itself. Byf naturally has a video for it around 40 ish minutes and his story that ties closely together with the Warmind Rasputin is truly fascinating and we'll written. Not a necessity on your journey but a personal recommendation I think others would agree with as a fun video reaction 😄

Mara was quite literally the only one cunning enough to use an ahamkara's power without incurring the monkey's paw effect. In the Last Wish raid of Destiny 2 you have to kill Riven as she was Taken by Oryx at one point. At the beginning of the raid you can find a wall of symbols. Shooting the symbols changes them. This is the Wall of Wishes and through these many symbol combinations, Mara could make such incredibly specific wishes that Riven could not twist. You can use this wall yourself in the Raid. There are 15 in total but we've only figured out 14. The 15th is still a mystery to this day. Most of the wishes are silly things like summoning certain characters to speak to you during the raid, making enemy's heads explode into confetti like the old Halo easter egg, but some of them allow you to skip straight to specific encounters in the raid. You can skip straight to Riven if you wanted but of course you skip out on the rewards from previous encounters as well.

Ironically, the Queen of lies was the only one to break away from the manipulation of the Witness, it using the Hive and the Worms as pawns. Im playing D2 as i listened to this and after almost a decade of playing this franchise, You START the game at the last second of this video. Ah, Byf does such great work with his lore videos. Two other great ones are "Dynasty", which covers the story of the Osmium Dynasty (Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath) in great detail, though you've already gotten the majority of it from this video. The other one would be "The Last Word and Thorn. The Complete Story", which covers the story of Dredgen Yor, the most notorious guardian that fell into Darkness, and Shin Malphur, The Man with the Golden Gun. I personally love this second one. As always, keep up the awesome work, you two!
Have to admit destiny has got a great lore to it. Phenomenal video. Also have to truly say Bethany is absolutely wise and I could listen to her for ages. Stay amazing you two.
For this story. I recommend listening on to the tales of Rhulk, The First Disciple. As he is affiliated with the Krill. I will not go further into details, but their original stems from him and The Witness.
im glad you watched this cause, as a Destiny player myself, i dont know much about the lore of Destiny. So this was a great education experience for me. As well as seeing all the foreshadowing that i wasnt aware of for Destiny 1 and 2.

One thing that’s always remained is my absolute fascination with the lore and world of Destiny. Even during the D1 days where you had to go on a website to read grimoire cards to understand the story, I still found it so intriguing. One of my favorite things Destiny does is the flavor text you find on gear and items. Like the Dark Souls games, the flavor text helps give context to the world of Destiny. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s poignant, but it’s always more interesting than simply being an explanation of what the item is and what it does. Some of my favorites are: "If there is beauty in destruction, why not also in its delivery?" - Feizel Crux "YOU WILL DREAM OF TEETH AND NOTHING ELSE" -scratched behind a buckle “When the lake used to freeze, people would dance on the ice wearing boots with tiny swords. And fall in love.” “One day the Last City will be known as the First City.” And my personal favorite: "In that last moment she seemed as wholly luminescent as the Sun, and I wished to be so brave." I’m not sure exactly where it’s stated but this is apparently Erianna-3 referring to the death of her lover, Wei Ning, at the battle of Mare Imbrium.
Oooh Byf is so good. And the Books of Sorrow too! Personally not caught up with all the D2 events (too expensive to keep up) but glad you guys are tackling this. Loved D1. It got REALLY good when the Taken King expansion dropped imo.
Dude I was a Beta player of D1 and I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see you react with such glee to this story that's been a part of my life for almost a decade now 😄 I can't wait to see your journey continue! Buckle up because it gets *really* good 😱 Side note: check out Byf's video Dynasty. It's a masterpiece 🤌🏻 Cheers!
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames you heard correct 👍🏻 The thing I really liked was the diligence in going back through the lore and correcting some contradictions or tweaking it so that it makes sense in the current universe. Also if you're into any sort of Mythology of any kind, pay attention because I'm pretty sure there's some former classic lit students in their narrative team 😂
As a gamer, I've been watching you guys for a min but I'm happy you guys are looking at more and more good stories in the gaming world. The story that is destiny is a good long and interesting one. I hope you enjoy it to its fullest.
2:32:41 The problem is that the Wish dragons relied on making wishes for sustainability unless one wish made one immortal. Example: When Oryx the Taken King destroyed the Awoken fleet in the DLC "Taken king," he went to the Dreaming city and found/spoke with "Riven" the last Ahamkara. Oryx: Can I TAKE you? Riven: As long as you wish it. And so Riven was taken.
I like the drifters dark age story. Dark Age was different times. We had no City. Warlords and Iron Lords tore up the whole world tryin' to prove who was better, what was worth fighting for. I was busy tryin' not to starve. You ever go hungry 'til you keeled over? We did that a lot in the Dark Age. Our Ghosts would bring us back - still hungry. Really pissed me off. This one time I found a village to hide out in. Bunch of huts, really. Good people. They gave me work, and I kept my Light a secret while I performed some minor miracles. Then the Iron Lords rolled into town. My Ghost stayed outta sight, and they were none the wiser. They cut a deal with us (as if we had a choice) - paid us to let them hide out 'til some Warlords showed up. Then ambushed 'em. But we all got caught in the crossfire. My neighbor's kid told me something that still bounces 'round my head to this day. Right before the light went out in her tiny eyes, she whispered, "I can't feel anything." Yeah. I couldn't either.
The way he delivers that line, too. "Yeah.... I couldn't either. ....that's all I got, cut the tape." What a horrible thing to have lived through. It makes his rogue character a little more forgivable, at least.
2:02:19 Yeah, "Red" in this age was very petty for unleashing SIVA because he mistook one of the Iron Lord's words as an insult. Even a newly developed fragment of Rasputin, who developed his own opinions, called himself a "Tyranical and unforgivable act."
I would definitely recommend diving into the Destiny 1 section of Byf's lore video, as it goes over things that were not shown in the campaign itself. There are more missions, activities, and other things that add to the story that were not included in the campaigns for Destiny 1, but those things were included in Byf's video, so they'll give you more context and knowledge of certain events that you definitely don't want to miss!
Definitely recommend watching over D1's story, some of the development occurs/involve the raid completion that is in my opinion important to know Also, in reference to the Ahamkara, their wishes were considered too powerful (to leave them accessible in some way to those with malicious intent) and there is also the little quirk of the Ahamkara's ability to grant unspoken "wishes, which could be very harmful and unknowingly engaged with
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Not only that... but they also have interesting abilities aside, like talking to you as bones. No not the guardian, To you... the player. The lore for the warlock helmet Skull of Dire Ahamkara... Reality is the finest flesh, oh bearer mine. And are you not…hungry? "O BEARER MINE." What kind of talking skull would address its host that way? A stiff, stuck-up old fossil, not me. The illusion that one's ego depends on an object, or an idea, or a body. Some people say you should have no ahamkara. Some people say you need to have the right ahamkara. All I know is that YOU are not an illusion. Understand? This world around you, the people you meet-they're a little thin, right? Cardboard and drywall. Cheap theater. Come on, try it out! Say: "I am more real than this." Feels good, doesn't it? "I am the only real person here." Isn't it like their insults and their bullets just went a little… soft? I came to find you, only you, because you're special. You're from somewhere real. And together we can burn our way back there. Can't we, o player mine?
Man Destiny 2 cinematics are gonna be a journey. I'm glad to be able to experience your reaction to Destiny lore and the cinematics of the games. Destiny lore is definitely in top 5 of the best fictional video game universe lore. A clashing titan amongst Halo, Gears of war, Elder Scrolls.
The thing with the Dragons was, you did not have to be in their presence to have them grant a wish, you just had to think it and the bargain was made. Even if you were not trying to actually make one, they granted it any way. Ana Bray, yeah you did see her again, in the warmind/Rasputin DLC.
The Sword Logic states that existence is the struggle to exist, and those that do not fight for it are a flaw in the fabric of the universe. A failure that must be broken and creased out, either by cold entropy or wanton destruction.
Watching this before playing the games is certainly a way to go about learning the lore, but back in Destiny 1, we didn't have Lore Books we could collect like we do in Destiny 2. They were these Cards we unlocked for an ONLINE WEBSITE so we could read them. Yes, it was really really bad. Many people didn't even bother to look them up and the website itself is gone now I think. They ARE archived by a fan run site know as the Ishtar Collective (Another Destiny reference). But yeah. Byf makes it seem like all of this was made clear but it was really something players had to dig for. Byf also did Lore for the raids themselves and how their design itself was telling a story. Something to look into.
Yes some good ol byf amsr hahaha he does a fantastic job with lore for destiny. The community has definitely been knighted “Lore Daddy” lol this is great 👍🏽 Oh and I would definitely look into Byf’s video on the dragons and you may discover why they were so dangerous to be left in the wild cause it takes a lot more than “stop making wishes” to hold back their influence haha Great reactions can’t wait to see more 🤞🏽👏🏽
so here's the thing about the Vault Fireteam, there was 6 and not just three. the other three were erased from existence entirely by Atheon and the Gorgons. we will never know their names, we will never known what classes they were, and they will be forever forgotten. such is the will of the Vault of Glass
You should read XXXII: Majestic. Majestic. It is a part of the Book of Sorrows where the Deep talks and explains itself to Oryx. It is key to understand everything about the Darkness's belief.
byf is great with breaking down lore in the game. but by far his greatest work was "THE LAST WORD" story. he did one of my favorite story line it's great. if you like old school westerns then you would like it.
Ana Bray's Death was presumed but ultimately, greatly exaggerated. Mara is a shining example of the concept that "Good" does not mean "Nice" with her having committed innumerable sins and atrocities for the purpose of returning and saving humanity. There is so much more Destiny lore and I hope that you guys will watch the seasonal stories from Destiny 2 as well, as that has some of the most fascinating info to learn.
19:55 All parents want what's best for their children, no? Well, the Sword Logic states that only the strongest have the right to exist, so what better way to strengthen your children then to show them strength firsthand, especially when you all have throne worlds ensuring that you can never truly die.
If you haven't reacted to it yet Mynameisbyf's video on the lore for Thorn and The Last Word is an absolute masterpiece of a youtube video. I highly recommend that one :)
You will learn a lot more about the krill and the hive and what really went down when you check out the Witch Queen. This comes back in a very interesting way.
This is a great video and presented really well, but you should know the story of Destiny is ever-evolving and we've learned more about some of this stuff in the years since this was released. Nothing here is WRONG, but we definitely have some more information and more details about some of the events he talks about. I hope Byf makes a fully updated version some day!
This is quite interesting, knowing what I know now about the Hive. Turns out, they aren't the worst the universe has to offer. Which is a terrifying thought. Per Audacia Ad Astra. I'll see you starside.
The lore of Destiny really starts way before the Books of Sorrow, the Gardener and Winnower's Flower Game (Light and Darkness respectively) dates back to before the normal laws of nature as we know them came into being. Of course, that account is told to us (agents of the Light) by the Winnower himself with the express purpose of trying to sway us to his side, so like the Books you might serve well to take it with caution. However, I believe it personally since by the rules he lays out he has little to no motivation to lie to us.
I hope we get to explore places beyond Sol after Final Shape, like Totobaital, Fundament, and the Distributary. Mara’s deception, and chaos she’d introduced to the Distributary, could be compared to “burning the down Olympus, or any such paradise, in order to prevent Armageddon” by what we would come to discover as the true identity of the malefactor of our first Collapse: The Witness. I hope we get to explore the Distributary in the next saga, as things may have changed greatly since then. Or perhaps, they’d already had been destroyed by the Witness and it’s Black Fleet. For even an anomaly in space seems within the Witness’ grasp to breach and destroy.
might i recommend dynasty, also by byf (as well as a bunch of collaborators)? it covers a lot of the same content of the books of sorrow but is animated and really well done.
Theres a really interesting aspect gameplay wise where the same way that youre annoyed that the dragons are gone, or that you wanna know more about Erianas story. THere are Exotic wepaons in the game that are anything from random drops like 1%. To, having to start a long 30 part quest following that particular tidbit of lore, For example, erianas vow is a giant fuck off Handcannon you can use. And hunters get an exotic peice of gear called the claws of ahamkara. On the side of erianas vow, theres a hive insignia carved into the barrel. Its special trait is that it shoots through barrier. Something to note is Hive have a mob called a Knight, and they constantly throw up a wall of pure darkness in front of them and heal behind it. Erianas vow shoots through it.
The dragons are quite cool but the reason they had to kill them is because the way they hunt and feed on is on wishing, so they tempt on others to wish and you know the rest, thats the danger that rest in them
Y’all like this y’all should watch Ark The island Survival Stories, y’all watched Helena’s story but there’s a full video that shows all sides, not only that but it’s in order so you’ll know there story on the island, specially sense it has a pretty interesting story
To explain the dragons and their wishes! They tempt anyone near them and takeover and influence them, they aren't just innocent animals but more sinister creatures, Even their remains whisper and tempt anyone near them.
'-They tempt anyone near them and takeover and influence them, they aren't just innocent animals but more sinister creatures, Even their remains whisper and tempt anyone near them.-'. few or some here (like this review of yours) at least has 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 similarly, and Agreeable Lore-wise cautious awareness.
Unfortunately, simply telling people not to make wishes with the Ahamkara would not have worked at all for two main reasons. One, The Ahamkara are crafty and manipulative, they can read minds and shape-shift so even if people at first don’t want to make wishes, it is very common for the Ahamkara to psychologically torment people until the give in, think constant visions of a deceased lover whispering in the back of your head to bring her back. The second big issue though is that wishes through Ahamkara do not have to be explicitly stated. Ahamkara can make pacts with people without those people ever even knowing that they made a wish or spoke to an Ahamkara.
BTW byf has an updated video on the hive back story called dynasty with the witch queen dlc we got a lot of updated information about the hive back story really well made video worth a watch

How has your perspective of the Destiny 1 story + expansions changed since knowing some of the background lore of Destiny? I think you should go on to Destiny 2 and the first 2 expansions and then maybe you could watch the lore video of Destiny 1. Once Destiny 2 introduced Seasonal content, you can think of the expansions as the A plot and the seasonal content as the B plot. Not all seasons are driving the overall story forward and some seasons are way more important than others. Some of the more recent seasons over this past year have been really good. I can't wait to see your reactions, if you guys keep going, to some of the things in Destiny 2 in the later years; you'll be shocked like many players like me.
Everyone else is recommending more Byf videos, which is great if you want some analysis, but if you're ever interested in just cold reads of lore cards, I recommend DarrenBaron. You guys would love the actual reading of the Books of Sorrow themselves since you seemed to enjoy Byf's re-telling. They're quite well written!
Hey Ken and Bethany, I love your reactions and takes on different gaming related lore. You guys should check out The Combined Timeline of Portal and Half-life by Skyrionn. It's kind of a long watch, but it's very compelling and the games are made by Valve, the same creators of Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead.

im glad you watched this cause, as a Destiny player myself, i dont know much about the lore of Destiny. So this was a great education experience for me. As well as seeing all the foreshadowing that i wasnt aware of for Destiny 1 and 2.
I am pretty sure that the lore on the wormgods at 32:56 comes during destiny 2. Recently we learned HUGE things about destiny 2 in the lore.
This format of video was amazing and very fun to watch with you, thank you! Can’t wait for more destiny
one of the Trapped 'prices', from the *[Enemy]* . (00:13:21).
But too late for those *Fallen* people. and those three.
if only the *[[Flower]-eater]* did not Interrupted this next set of the [Traveler]'s work. and another Golden Age people's. (00:37:00).
if only.
that one, little detail described by that attempt's *(**00:37:20**)* though wasn't the full description. [It] was first discovered BEFORE the literal First Contact location, keep in mind.
the ARES ONE(/CATAMARAN) mission. (00:37:55).
the [Gardener] there was rescuing those GREEN colonists. [00:58:30].
it was still a good idea....
if not for the more Material *Hive* there also deploying their similarly [Paracausally]-empowered equivalent (Crota for example) too on that cursed Moon. (02:23:36).
Some of my favorites are:
"If there is beauty in destruction, why not also in its delivery?" - Feizel Crux
"YOU WILL DREAM OF TEETH AND NOTHING ELSE" -scratched behind a buckle
“When the lake used to freeze, people would dance on the ice wearing boots with tiny swords. And fall in love.”
“One day the Last City will be known as the First City.”
And my personal favorite:
"In that last moment she seemed as wholly luminescent as the Sun, and I wished to be so brave."
I’m not sure exactly where it’s stated but this is apparently Erianna-3 referring to the death of her lover, Wei Ning, at the battle of Mare Imbrium.
Buckle up because it gets *really* good 😱
Side note: check out Byf's video Dynasty. It's a masterpiece 🤌🏻 Cheers!
We heard the story and cinematics really go up a notch in D2 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames you heard correct 👍🏻 The thing I really liked was the diligence in going back through the lore and correcting some contradictions or tweaking it so that it makes sense in the current universe. Also if you're into any sort of Mythology of any kind, pay attention because I'm pretty sure there's some former classic lit students in their narrative team 😂
17:49 dude wtf this lore is dope asf
As a gamer, I've been watching you guys for a min but I'm happy you guys are looking at more and more good stories in the gaming world. The story that is destiny is a good long and interesting one. I hope you enjoy it to its fullest.
so cool i was wondering if u guys were gonna do more destiny and u made my wish come true with TWO AND A HALF HOUR VID!!! ty so much
Wait until they find out about the hive in Witch Queen
2:32:41
The problem is that the Wish dragons relied on making wishes for sustainability unless one wish made one immortal.
Glad never felt that kind of hunger 😨
the drifter is the best character in all of destiny no discussion.
The way he delivers that line, too. "Yeah.... I couldn't either. ....that's all I got, cut the tape." What a horrible thing to have lived through. It makes his rogue character a little more forgivable, at least.
As someone who really loves Mara I love both of your opinions on her. Well thought out and fair.
2:02:19
Yeah, "Red" in this age was very petty for unleashing SIVA because he mistook one of the Iron Lord's words as an insult.
The lore of destiny is so much more interesting than the actual game for me
Fun fact: Eriana actually has a gun named after her in the game.
Yeah a Hand canon with a scope (other hand canons dont have them) called Eriana's Wov
@@DR_REDACTED vow
'let them come, this is the last light they'll see'.
THANK YOU SO MUCH🙏 Byf is so great.
Our pleasure 🙂
Definitely recommend watching over D1's story, some of the development occurs/involve the raid completion that is in my opinion important to know
Also, in reference to the Ahamkara, their wishes were considered too powerful (to leave them accessible in some way to those with malicious intent) and there is also the little quirk of the Ahamkara's ability to grant unspoken "wishes, which could be very harmful and unknowingly engaged with
Oh damn. Yeah the unspoken wishes would be a problem 😯
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames There are powerful, exotic items made out of their remains... and they're not safe to use either...
I love the implication that savathun read oryx's diary and then decided to write "why you lyin' lol" in the margins. It's so "highschool" lol
WOAH THIS IS AMAZING! an entire 2 hour video with my favorite reaction youtubers!
You guys will absolutely love Byf’s video about Dredgen Yor and Thorn. So much effort was made to make that video. Treat yourselves!
Going into Destiny 2, you NEED to react to the raid lore, it is some of the most important lore, and you missed it in Destiny 1
Holy crap- I was wondering when new destiny content was coming but I didn’t expect this 😂😂😂
The Sword Logic states that existence is the struggle to exist, and those that do not fight for it are a flaw in the fabric of the universe. A failure that must be broken and creased out, either by cold entropy or wanton destruction.
Another Byf video that is great and about a centralized story is the "Last Word and Thorn" video.
I was shocked when I saw that you posted this
YES!!!! never thought you'd react to Destiny.
The community has definitely been knighted “Lore Daddy” lol this is great 👍🏽
Oh and I would definitely look into Byf’s video on the dragons and you may discover why they were so dangerous to be left in the wild cause it takes a lot more than “stop making wishes” to hold back their influence haha
Great reactions can’t wait to see more 🤞🏽👏🏽
You guys stumbled upon some Deep lore. I love Byf's voice.
i would love to see your reactions to the super attacks in saint seiya soldiers soul. they are some awesome looking attacks
so here's the thing about the Vault Fireteam, there was 6 and not just three. the other three were erased from existence entirely by Atheon and the Gorgons. we will never know their names, we will never known what classes they were, and they will be forever forgotten. such is the will of the Vault of Glass
14:39 chills
Late to the party for once, but thank you guys for continuing to check out Destiny!
You should read XXXII: Majestic. Majestic. It is a part of the Book of Sorrows where the Deep talks and explains itself to Oryx. It is key to understand everything about the Darkness's belief.
Byf us a great lore youtuber. I love his content and yours
byf is great with breaking down lore in the game. but by far his greatest work was "THE LAST WORD" story. he did one of my favorite story line it's great. if you like old school westerns then you would like it.
Ana Bray's Death was presumed but ultimately, greatly exaggerated.
Mara is a shining example of the concept that "Good" does not mean "Nice" with her having committed innumerable sins and atrocities for the purpose of returning and saving humanity.
There is so much more Destiny lore and I hope that you guys will watch the seasonal stories from Destiny 2 as well, as that has some of the most fascinating info to learn.
oooooh, mmmmyyyyy, gooddssss. I have literally been waiting for this forever, thank you. My immortal soul can rest peacefully now...
Ah yes, Byf, Lore Daddy, one of the best sources of destiny lore out there
This is a great video and presented really well, but you should know the story of Destiny is ever-evolving and we've learned more about some of this stuff in the years since this was released.
Oh boy good luck trying to understand all this. I played since D1 and still dread this storytelling.
Comment is a little late, but a really good Byf lore video is the lore behind The Last Word and Thorn.
Myelin is malding!🤣
Destiny universe is expansive and utterly interesting,... Bravo
Ahamkara can make pacts with people without those people ever even knowing that they made a wish or spoke to an Ahamkara.
i love destiny
You gotta listen to Last word vs Thorn lore by byf!
BTW byf has an updated video on the hive back story called dynasty with the witch queen dlc we got a lot of updated information about the hive back story really well made video worth a watch
You guys should definitely react to all of the lightfall trailers. The order to watch would be:
1: Destiny 2 lightfall reveal trailer
2: destiny 2 game awards trailer
3: destiny 2 neomuna environmental trailer
4: destiny 2 lightfall weapons and gear trailer
5: destiny 2 lightfall strand trailer
6: destiny 2 lightfall launch trailer
They've seen at least the reveal trailer thanks to a compilation of Gamescom 2022 reveals, I think.
Dude the Vex invaded Oryx’s throne world??? That’s crazy
My Name is Byf is a GOD
You should also watch his Destiny video The Last Word, and the Thorn.
You guys should react to the new destiny 2 Lightfall launch trailer. Also happy to see you guys liking the lore to this universe. So cool :)
Those are games we plan on checking out at some point. Thanks for recommending 🙂
