Lived in Paintsville, KY for several years, and experienced a flood of much less proportions. As a Yankee, I found mountain people really awrsome and authentic. This breaks my heart to see this footage.

Thank you for posting this video. My sister and her husband reside in Knott County near Hindman in a small community called Frogtown. Her husband’s last name is Childers. Luckily, they reside on a hilltop and escaped damage to their home but members of their family had homes inundated by the flood waters. There is so much loss it is unbearable to comprehend.

Note: Most of the roadways were high and dry. Building in the flood plain never made sense. When you build back better, don't build in the flood plain. Use the flood plain for parking lots, ball fields, crop land, pastures, hay meadows, etc.
Yes sir. I never understood why people put their homes next to that little creek. My family survived the 1939 Licking River flash flood ONLY because my Grandpa built his home and barns up on higher ground and used the area by the creek to grow food and graze animals. My Mom told us how awful it was in July 1939 and it is pretty much a repeat.

Do you know it's next to impossible to find flat land there and they have to blast the bases of mountains off just to get a couple acres of flat land to build on? That's like trying to find much in the way of flat land in the Rockies or Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. We've had several fires in the west, and when they get heavy rain near those burn scars, they end up with flash flood and mudslides. It's sad, but we as a country need to pull together, not criticize these people who are hurting. My prayers for those who are suffering.

I was sitting on my porch when this drone flew by above us. I'm in the trailer across from the red roof near the end of the video. we had a flood just like this a little over a year ago, not as bad but the house and trailers across from us were flooded then too. And those homes were empty this time because they were all forced to move last year. The floods are getting higher and more frequent. Something strange is going on. Btw my neighbor drown in the flood of 2021 trying to escape in his boat and nobody made a peep. No news coverage or anything.

I just built my home 2 years ago with updated flood plain information. I am not even in the flood plain, my mortgage company wouldn’t allow it. Yet I was still flooded.

We have better building codes now. However a lot of these homes were paid for and 30+ years old. I don’t live in a flood plain, have flood and HOI, I was still hit with the flood.
In 50yrs I had never seen it rain so hard for so long. I knew something was coming. It’s going to take forever to have the roads rebuilt in many places.
I'd like to make a comment for 'editing' sake, you've done good work with you video. I noticed a print on the bottom of one screen saying Mountain Parkway. The Mountain Parkway is no where near the site of this flooding. I traveled the Mountain Parkway by motorcycle Saturday, the Mountain Parkway certainly was not affected. The Mountain Parkway begins to the West just East of Winchester KY connecting to I 64. The Mountain Parkway then runs East through Stanton, Clay City, Slade-Natural Bridge- Red River George, Campton, Salyersville, to Prestonsburg. I'm sure there are plans to continue it eastward.. The highway shown in the video is highway 15 which runs North - South through Campton, Jackson, Hazard.

@@andreacaldwell7492 sir , if your house came off it’s foundation it wasn’t built to what should be code.. I know it feels good to be able to do what you want without government rules and inspectors. But when the homes are stressed they show structural defects . Such as cinder block walls with out rebar and having there inside channel filled and vibrated concrete.. these walls fall over I’ve even seen cinder blocks that never had grout between them just a wall of stacked blocks … when you build a home it needs to be attached to the foundation.. everything has a correct way to be accomplished …sorry you seem to have lost everything but we all need to try rebuilding in a better way…. I hope you and your loved ones are OK … our home sits a a creek and it has flooded but because our home sits 24inchs above the ground and is bolted down no water came in but went under and out the vents on the back side .. pretty lucky

Thank you for posting this video. My sister and her husband reside in Knott County near Hindman in a small community called Frogtown. Her husband’s last name is Childers. Luckily, they reside on a hilltop and escaped damage to their home but members of their family had homes inundated by the flood waters. There is so much loss it is unbearable to comprehend.
I lost my home in New Orleans in Hurricane Katrina in 2005. My heart breaks for everyone there.

Note: Most of the roadways were high and dry. Building in the flood plain never made sense. When you build back better, don't build in the flood plain. Use the flood plain for parking lots, ball fields, crop land, pastures, hay meadows, etc.
They put a mobile home park near the San Joaquin River, in the flood plain. It flooded the trailers in that park several years ago!
Yes sir. I never understood why people put their homes next to that little creek. My family survived the 1939 Licking River flash flood ONLY because my Grandpa built his home and barns up on higher ground and used the area by the creek to grow food and graze animals. My Mom told us how awful it was in July 1939 and it is pretty much a repeat.

That's like trying to find much in the way of flat land in the Rockies or Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. We've had several fires in the west, and when they get heavy rain near those burn scars, they end up with flash flood and mudslides. It's sad, but we as a country need to pull together, not criticize these people who are hurting. My prayers for those who are suffering.

I was sitting on my porch when this drone flew by above us. I'm in the trailer across from the red roof near the end of the video. we had a flood just like this a little over a year ago, not as bad but the house and trailers across from us were flooded then too. And those homes were empty this time because they were all forced to move last year. The floods are getting higher and more frequent. Something strange is going on. Btw my neighbor drown in the flood of 2021 trying to escape in his boat and nobody made a peep. No news coverage or anything.

I'd like to make a comment for 'editing' sake, you've done good work with you video. I noticed a print on the bottom of one screen saying Mountain Parkway. The Mountain Parkway is no where near the site of this flooding. I traveled the Mountain Parkway by motorcycle Saturday, the Mountain Parkway certainly was not affected. The Mountain Parkway begins to the West just East of Winchester KY connecting to I 64. The Mountain Parkway then runs East through Stanton, Clay City, Slade-Natural Bridge- Red River George, Campton, Salyersville, to Prestonsburg. I'm sure there are plans to continue it eastward.. The highway shown in the video is highway 15 which runs North - South through Campton, Jackson, Hazard.

But when the homes are stressed they show structural defects . Such as cinder block walls with out rebar and having there inside channel filled and vibrated concrete.. these walls fall over I’ve even seen cinder blocks that never had grout between them just a wall of stacked blocks … when you build a home it needs to be attached to the foundation.. everything has a correct way to be accomplished …sorry you seem to have lost everything but we all need to try rebuilding in a better way….
