- “Now you become angry and fainthearted and grieved, thinking that the heavenly Father is slow in answering. But I tell you that this will also happen as you desire-it will definitely happen-but first it takes prayer with all your soul, and then you must wait. And when you have forgotten your request and have ceased asking for it, it will come to you as a reward for your patience and endurance. When you reach the verge of despair while praying and seeking, then the fulfillment of your request is near. Christ wants to heal some hidden passion within you, and this is why He delays in granting your request. If you obtain it sooner, when you demand it, your passion remains uncured within you. If you wait, you obtain your request and the cure of the passion. And then you rejoice exceedingly and give warm thanks to God Who arranges all things in wisdom and does everything for our benefit.”
“Don't fume with anger, as if to work it out of your system, but rather be calm. Burn the devil through patience and forbearance.”
“Christ allows temptations so that we may be purified of our predispositions. Temptations are like soap and a mallet which hits us and whitens us. All the clothes that are firm are useful for the Bridegroom. But those which do not endure the mallet are torn and thrown out in the trash.”
St. Joseph the Hesycast is one of the greatest ascetics of the 20th Century and spiritual father of St. Ephraim of Katounakia and Elder Ephraim of Philotheou and Arizona.

Roman Catholicism has a purgative, illuminative, unitive way of mysticism. It doesn’t seem like the orthodox has that is their spiritual growth pathway. How do the orthodox handle that?

Roman Catholicism has no mysticism, since you cannot experience God in this life because you believe in created effects while the Orthodox believe they can experience God in this life because of uncreated grace

The Roman Catholic Church not having mysticism might be a surprise to St Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross and innumerable other saints and church militants
@@vivachristorey7622In short, catolic misticism is considered a demonic activity. Btw the kind of misticism of the catolic church type exists in orthodoxy too, among "some" monks, and is called a demonic deception happening because of hidden pride and is considered a serious condition i.e. leading to soul and mental damage that may lead to spiritual (and often physical) death. There'r many precautions from early fathers (known to Catolic church btw such as John Climacus, who are being completely ignored as catolic church embraced their newly invented spirituality) "to not accept any vision" and not concentrate on feelings but humble yourself. Any exatlation is strictly prohibited, as well as attention to dreams, even the whole orthodox spiritual path is called "sobering" i.e. completely the opposite to catolic misticism path. Demonic visions only boost one's pride while one's humility is true God's goal. Illumination by the Holy Spirit and His gifts come naturally when the person is ready and his sould is considerably cleanesed of passions, and is compltely different from the cheap demonic one. Btw there are many saints who first were deceived (or were tried to) by demons with visions/light/feelings into thinking they'r saints, who after repentence and with guidence and a long spiritual path of many many years after that then received the true gift of the Holy Spirit so could compare and describe the two. So there's ton of material and experience of this topic inside orthodox church. For example book of st. Sofronie Saharov "We Shall See Him As He Is".
