I found they have the right length stand off spacer at the hardware stores you can slide right over the shifting rod and maybe need a washer and its locked in 4 wheel drive that way also!
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol it works trust me, had mine done that way for months while I waited for the slipper clutch and new bearing set so I still could play with it lol!💯😜
Awesome Mod! I just shared this with HG-P407 Facebook group. It's called - HG P407 aka Tamiya Bruiser Clone Owners So hopefully you'll get some more subscribers
Yes in the spare parts bag there is some white collars that can be snapped onto the shift shaft to lock it in gear, Or I used a small zip tie to hold it against the long bolt in first gear.
Was just curious on your thoughts about this, I have 3 transmissions all from different places rtr and I have noticed none have the 3 shims that go between the 30t gear and 27t gear that it shows on their manual that comes with the truck, they are labeled ls033 and w04010 as spacers, could this be why they have so many shifting problems?
I never seen that, Thanks for sharing it I will have to tear down one of my rerelease bruiser transmissions and the hg-p407 to compare the parts to see if the shims are in it. I know they have been assembling the hg transmissions dry and along with the weak servo saver on the shift shaft it really shifts horribly bad.
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol no problem just figured I would put it out there and maybe help everyone solve the problems with these things. Yeah Im running into the servo breaking my dam gears. Figured it out by watching your videos and others💯
Hi, I also thought about doing this but I think it will create too much stress on the gears, they tend to break easily, it is missing a clutch, the tamyia original does not fit. Do you have any solution for a clutch. Thank you for your great vids.
is the set screw hitting the rear shift collar? pull the back cover off and look for any marks on the internals , get back to me if it still makes noise. we will figure it out.
It works!! Thanks danny!! The new gear sitting a bit foward cause the set screw keep hitting the shifting collar. Reposition that gear solved the issue, and runs really smooth though.
I never even thought about that, great question! I would say narrowing the hgp407 crossmember and retrofitting the front mount and it should drop right in👍
I plan on doing the mod with this and the slipper clutch, does it still break teeth with the slipper? I ripped out a few after some 2 gear wheelies and abuse on pavement and carpet, original bruiser tyranny was a high wear item especially the brass gears and the front output gear for 4WD and not so much wear as fast on the PG407 gears seem to wear slower but I have ordered extras while they are available! I think the PG 407 gears are sintered Bronze,I may be wrong?
I haven't broken any gears since the conversion but I did loosen the slipper nut to compensate for the extra strain on the gears, I just installed a 9 turn brushless system so we will see if I loosened it enough lol! I think your right about the sintered bronze.
Hey Dennis, I just ordered a 32p 22T pinion as you recommend for this, as for some reason my tranny will never go into full 4WD. I have torn in apart a few times, but can't seem to find the issue, so my part-solution was to just do as you instruct in this vid. I wonder if it's also only me, but as smooth as the fork's rod moves when disassembled, once I put all the gearbox together, I really struggle trying to move the gear selecting rod. My servo is quite powerful and has metal gears, but as much as my endpoints are properly set, it still gets hot of how much effort it has to make. I haven't noticed any bending on the rods or gearbox axles that might be causing this . I wonder if you have any ideas to try to fix these issues, and thanks in advance, dude!
The pinion that I used was a mod-1 22t pinion, in the HG-P407 transmission, the early bruisers are 32p I hope I didn't mistakenly say 32p in my video.🤔
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol Hey Dennis, thanks for clarifying. Probably my mistake. I did order a mod-1 22T in the end. I figure you don't have more to say about the issues I mention. No worries, maybe someone else chimes in. Good luck setting up that V8!
I am looking into the issues, seems some of the early transmissions don't have this problem, I have both early and recent transmissions and want to disassemble them to compare to see why its happening and upload a video on it.
Doesn't this create different speeds from front to rear axle? the fromt is always in first gear range while the rear will go into second and third also... this should lead to different wheel speeds front to rear. Or am I wrong?
Syncrofan the front drive gear in the transmission free floats , when it’s engaged to first gear there is a shift colllar that engages the front driveshaft, when you install the fixed gear it eliminates the shift collar.
Yeah I was trying to figure this out too (my 407 is still in the mail), worked out that it's the sub shaft that's driven by the motor rather than the larger main shaft so works fine (apart from 3rd gear, read below). You could almost think of it as a 2+1 speed, I think 3rd is just a straight pass through on the main shaft. The transfer gears for the front drive serve that purpose only, they don't play any part in the ratios (other than being at 1:1 with the main shaft). Dennis, does that sound about right?
It has low second and third just like in stock form, I first tried this with removing the thin hex in front because the pinion was to wide and it resulted in no first gear just 2 seconds and third, the hex i removed was for first gear, then I thought about grinding the gear down and reinstalling the hex,
Hey Denny, my gear arrived today but they sent me the wrong size. I got a 21 tooth instead of the 22 so I had to reorder. It's frustrating but it is what it is I guess.
@@bamabiker750 Thats a bummer when they send the wrong stuff, that recently happened to me also. I ordered some 12mm hexes and received some eyeglasses straps! hope they resend it quickly to ya.
Thank goodness for guys like you willing to take the chances and time to figure this tranny out. Sheesh. I've wanted this mod since 86' I always hated that 2nd gear wasn't 4x4. 1st just wasn't fast enough to get over long hills. Those hard as rock tires didn't help either. I loved the tires though because we had several backhoes and those tires are backhoe tires. But my new bruise never had those mounted up. Went straight to better tires.👍🇺🇸 you guys are awesome. Hey! Did this yesterday and it worked very well! Many thanks sharing!
Great to hear! Thanks for checking in my friend!
Can you lock the transmission in just 1st gear 4x4? And use it without a secondary servo?
I’ve never really needed to use the other gears

Would it be better to run the P407 gearbox in the re-release Bruiser?
I would say yea to the 407 gearbox in the re bruiser because of the all metal gears. I am running them in mine,
Just done mine, but produce clicking sound at 3rd gear, any idea please???

That's pretty cool. So does second gear have any extra speed over first, or is essentially two first gears and a third that's high?

Can a traxxas 32 pitch pinon be used? or is shaft size to small?
I'm not sure what shaft size is on the traxxas motor but if its a 5mm shaft the pinion should work.
