The food finding noise is my favorite as well!

Your rooster is a handsome boy.
We have 4 roosters and I love them so much!! They are so misunderstood.

Thank you! I agree about roosters. Most people think they pre programmed to be evil and that’s just not the case. My rooster is always happy and treats us and his ladies well ☺️

Maybe egg song rebuttal is my favorite. My whole flock gets into it!😂😂😂

I love how excited my rooster gets over “finding food.” Especially when I throw it down right in front of him and he acts as though he produced it 😂

Thank You!! Our rooster recently started doing the egg song with his 2 favorite hens. Only them 2, not the others. I thought this wasn't normal. Lol.😂 My first time owning chickens. Our roosters name is Mr. Wobbers. He was abandon by his previous owners. So we caught him and gave him a new family. Very interesting and fun to watch

We just adopted a rooster a couple days ago he's already mixing in with the flock nicely. And I was wondering what that dance was and it's adorable. Today is his second day with the flock full time and he is walking around growing this morning I think he's a happy boy he's got eight girls all to himself.

Sounds like you’ve got a great setup! Roosters are very entertaining

I was hoping you were going to cover the tones my 22 wk old New Hamphire Cockerel makes, almost like he's humming to himself. Lol
Have you tried whistling a song around your rooster? Or your wife sing a high toned song? When I do, all my flocks stop & listen. The Cockerel literally freezes & just stares. Since I'm not too sure if he likes it, I only do it outside his run or coop.
My flocks are: 1-1/2 y/o, 22 wks old & 6 wks old. They all freeze in their steps & watch me for as long as I whistle or sing.

We ended up with 4 roosters out of a dozen chickens… those little motherf@ckers start up around 3am - all 4 of them - and don’t stop. All day. It has nothing to do with the sun coming up. They start HOURS before the sun comes up…

I’m glad you liked it! I know you have several roos. Is my interpretation of their language correct?

One of our roosters had an encounter with a smallish dog. He lost a fair number of tail feathers, how long do they take to grow back?

    • @pretendfarm

They should come back the next time he goes through a molt….could be like 6 months but usually in the fall mine go through a molt. They’ll definitely come back so no worries!

Just got a roo and almost immediately he started mounting hens and juvenile hens. Is he establishing an order or do i need to be worried?

He’s definitely just being a rooster. Probably had a lot of bottled up frustration. When I introduced Bucky he did the same thing. He should mellow out

My rooster has had many conversations with another rooster who lives on a ranch up the hill 😄

Can someone tell me if that wing dance is accompanied with a sound like a grumpy-like, mumbling sound? My rooster does it ALL THE TIME and he also approach me with this dancing. I just push him heartlessly... But he's always stomping his feet and mumbling like he's annoyed. What does it mean? And would it be I look like a hen for him?? 😒

      @@thaisalves4056 can’t say I’ve ever experienced that one 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@pretendfarm I see. 🥲 I published a video of the sound, since I've been trying to understand it... ( ua-cam.com/users/shorts072saFrtRhM ) I also tried asking on BackYard Chickens forum but everybody that answered me just ignored the sound and only gave me comments on how I shouldn't hug my rooster or I should make soup out of him. 😓

I don't kiss or hug my New Hamphire 22wk old Cockerel, but the tones yours is making, is the tones I hear mine making all the time. (I just posted a comment before I saw this.)
Its like he's talking to himself. Lol
I'm not sure your rooster liked the hug, he appeared uncomfortable with it, but he did like the waddles being petted, which I've seen folks do before.
I stopped holding my Cockerel when he was 5 wks old because I could tell he stopped liking it.
But now I treat him with respect as I always show him what I'm bringing into his haven or what I'm taking out.
I enjoy holding the pullets in his flock, but I don't think he likes it. Not sure. He keeps an eye on me when I do. But the hens like it.
Read my comment about singing or whistling with your rooster. He may like it.

Sadly I have a rooster that I think I'm going to have to get rid of because he's extremely unpredictable. He will start attacking me every time I walk out in the yard. I lock him up for two or three days and he calms down and does okay for a couple days and then goes back to attacking. I noticed he does it more on colder or windy days so I really kind of feel it's weather-related but I just hate having to be on guard all the time. I don't know what his breed is but he's a very beautiful rooster Big Red Rooster with turquoise and black tail. He's a beautiful rooster but has a horrible personality.

That’s a shame. My first ever rooster got mean like that. My advice would be start over with a different one. For every mean rooster you’ll find 3 friendly ones. Good luck!
