Long before the so called space race, a countries technical prowess was shown off in their ships. The largest moving objects ever made by man. I've been aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, she's incredible to see and experience in person. Hand built without the aid of computers or even a calculator, just by the knowledge and skill of man. Truly a marvel to behold...Hats off to the men that engineered and built this magnificent vessel!!!
This newsreel has got the wrong commentary...the newsreel mainly showed the ship entering the King George V dry dock in Southampton...(note that the 'new docks' weren't completed then) ...the area on the right side has yet to be reclaimed...nowadays it's the site of the container port. The flat heathland of Hythe and the Eastern Edge of the New a forest is seen behind the ship. The King George V dry dock is not used as a dry Dock now...but as a scrap metal loading point for transit to China. The mountains of scrap metal can be seen from the main road or from trains between Southampton and Redbridge. Rob.
She's in better shape now than she's been in since retirement, and is currently being repaired and restored. The City of Long Beach is doing right by the Queen. Your comment is way off base.

At least it’s still in use,! Fun fact the Majestic was the first ship to use it!
My beloved Queen, my favorite ship in the whole world. How I simply cannot wait to see you this spring. Long may you reign.👸🏻🇬🇧
86 years ago this ship was a marvelous thing for its grandiosity but now it's only famous for haunting stories
I live with a front side view of the Clyde had no idea this buetifal piece of art was built near my front garden
Such a beautiful ship !
EYO ITS THE WINDSOR CASTLE AND MAJESTIC IN THE BACKGROUND LOL
Not the Olympic
Yes indeed! So cool!
amazing ship.
Very, but it's so haunted and it unfortunately killed 300+ in a crash with an allied ship
And now, unfortunately, here in Scotland we can’t even produce two wee ferries.
Nice to see an old Queen of Scotland 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I guess the meaning of "ticklish" has evolved a bit since then
The Queen Mary Aka The Queen Mary ?🤔

Not true, as of October, she is getting million dollar repairs. Long Beach plans to keep her since she offers 1/6 of Los Angeles tourism
I'll believe it when I see it happen.
