Especially from a side view, it looks a lot more refined than I imagine it feels.
Oh definitely
This fabulous pistol was featured many times in the original Mission: Impossible TV series of the 1960s. It almost looks like it has a built-in silencer.
This was used when they needed “exotic looking pistol” for foreign agent.
One of my favorite pistols, first 9mm I ever fired. When I got the chance to get one, I did. Was my range gun, truck gun, my everything for a long time. Terrible sights, worse trigger and a heal release. It still looks and shoots great. Great long version video on this gun.
Same , bigger than a pillow ,
It sounds like a really nice version of the Astra. 9 mm PB makes it a lot more appealing, also.
Wiki: " It had an unusually strong recoil spring that caused a stiff trigger pull. The strong spring could make it difficult for individuals with weak hands to retract the slide making disassembly and cleaning difficult." Can of snakes indeed! Still, didn't seem to fire that snappy for a 9mm blowback design. It's a handsome piece.
Thank you, Mae, as always skillfully delivered, and if the Zombie apocalypse were to happen, I would gladly grab an Astra after your 60 second tutorial, Cheers from the land of Oz.
By far, one of the coolest channels I have come across. I have been reading a book about the history of small arms and so it is awesome to see what I have been learning about showcased in video !
My first centerfire semi-auto pistol! Who said the 9mmP is too powerful for a straight blow-back pistol?
Oh to have access to all the wonderful weapons Mae demonstrates!
Second to the Campo-Ghiro in looking like the Gunliest Gun to ever Gun.
Love mine!
I remember seeing this gun used many times in the “Mission Impossible” TV series as enemy (communist power state) equipment.
I remember this gun because of its unique design around the barrel.
It's a great design to impress people as equipment of a state that is clearly different from ours.
Love this gun
“Like a can of snakes?”
Those sounds dangerous
She’s referencing disassembly. The recoil spring is super stiff and it’s held by the endcap. When you remove the endcap the spring wants to aggressively eject out the front. Like the prank peanut brittle cans full of fake snakes that pop out.
Joke toy. Spring loaded snakes pop out when you open the lid.
@@shaneblair-hicks4975
Damn! Forgot about those! Thanks!
Gun Designer: "How do we make it look cooler?"
"Make the barrel, slightly thinner. The Guys will love it and pretend it's a supressor.
The Astra everyone wants but has a difficult time finding.
I like that one. It looks like it would be a better hold than my old S&W .40 doublestack.
It has that old Walther look to it.. I like it
Mae looks great. Gun looks like something a plumber designed.
my imagination as a kid after picking up the perfect gun stick
I had an Astra 600 with Nazi proof markings. It was a great shooting gun, but was awful to break down with that recoil spring. I ended up trading it for a 1952 Colt Police Positive Special, in the original box, unfired with Colt letter. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Mae!!!
I was thinking about getting a 600 to replace my 400, but most of the 600s don’t have the cool Astra sun logo. Deal breaker.
If your 400 is stMped on the barrel in the ejection port 9mm/.38 it was factory altered to also fire the old Colt .38 ACP. This is the exact same case as .38 Super. But a less powerful loading. Old reloading manuals all have loads for this round. .38 Super loading dies are easily available. The bullets for .357/.38 spc will work. The 140gr hollow point functions perfectly and is a good defense round.
@@johnchandler1687 I already make .38 ACP for my Pocket Hammer, so that’s what I’ve been using. Would be easier to just use off the shelf 9x19 though haha
@@TenaciousTrilobite true, but there's no good defense ammo in 9mm Largo. Just ball.
@@johnchandler1687 ...why would I need defensive ammo for an Astra? I carry a gun that's good
I want to see Mae do one on the Destroyer Carbine.
It's a blowback, no locking system like practically all 9x19's, hence the strong recoil spring.
Huh? The vast majority of 9x19s have locking actions
Have a 400, and love it. Would love to add a 300, and 600
Thank you!🙂💯👍!
“Can of snakes”. That’s a keeper
Someone needs to do a video like this on the Astra 800 Condor. Can't find one yet.
Star wars Blaster
I saw an ad for one of those
Looks like a lot of comments are from fake accounts with butt avatars.
Engagement is engagement ROFL
Great Job Mae🎉🎉🎉🎉
She smiled...
She likes the Astras.
oh yes, the pipe wrench,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I heard German pilots liked the Astra pistols and carried them.
From the side it kinda looks like a WW2 Five seven
👍👍👍
I love you Mae 😍🥰🥰🥰
I see what that is
Whoot whoot
Still like the 400 better than the 600, though both are excellent weapons.
That's a bit of an overstatement 🙄
The Astra series has that slight child's drawing aesthetic, it'd look right at home in Captain Pronin's brick-like hands
I don't shoot my 600 becuase it's a PITA to field strip. :)
Honestly amazing how some of the first comments are literally just porn bots lmao
Porn bots for gun porn, perhaps? 🤔
I still prefer those over seeing the 'hey you won something' bots with the numbers in their name, often with a picture of the channel.
That is an aesthetically appealing firearm. Modern guns function better but man are so many ugly.
Let’s support the rhythm of the alligators before they get agitated and devour our friends money income funds for spending and using and saving
Haw much price
PITA to disassemble/assemble.
Looks like a well made cigarette lighter.
Sleek looking pistol.
Mae is cute, CUTE!
Mae makes me want guns I never knew about, cannot find, or afford.
Had one of these for a few months. Don't remember if I ever shot it.

Actually, millions of rounds of 9mm Parabellum have been fired through Astra 400s in 9mm Largo. The extractor holds the round against the bolt head and the pressures and performance of the 2 rounds is identical. Wiuldn't try +P ammo, though. And the trigger is hard as a good military trigger should be. Keeps nervous soldiers or cops from accidentally discharging weapon easily. My hard trigger on my 400 is very predictable and doesn't effect shooting accuracy at all.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. This is hard on your extractor
@@TenaciousTrilobite True, but good to know. In the 1960s they were sold by the thousands mail-order cheap. Back the 9mm Largo was more a rumor than ammo you could actually find.
I've always liked these, just from the looks. Are all 9mm Luger ones for Nazi contact? Did you mean; the trigger goes from zero to a brick wall. I wish you just described it without assuming the listener knows your language.
From the contract, yes. Most of them were not actually delivered, though. Zero as in no resistance when pulling. Brick wall as in a lot of resistance when pulling. The trigger pull starts out easy and then sudden gets very hard.
American English in rural areas and the South tends to make heavy use of idioms and metaphors.
Never fired a gun, but I love these videos.
Go to a range where you can rent firearms and change that.
@@onpsxmember I’m in the UK, so only small calibre rifles at ranges.
@@jr5925
I thought you still had some shotguns left. Maybe have a look when you're abroad what is offered.
@@onpsxmember I think you can use them for clay pigeons and such, but normally not on ranges. I might do. Quite happy with the gun situation here, but it’d be fun to fire a few shots from a revolver or something.
If I didn't know that this was a pistol I would say by the name it's some off brand video card.
Ha, can of snakes
If you haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth now is the time.
Spanish made pistol that was also used in ww2 by the Finn’s and Germans.

Guns are machines. Machines are made by engineers. Engineers use metric. Use Metric.
None of that "inches" or "pounds" nonsense.
Give it a rest. Or make your own content.
Is it 9mm Largo?
para bellum
Thats the 400
Arguably one of the worst pistols I have shot. Gripangle is vile, recoil is snappy, sights suck. I only own it because it's a mil-surp pistol.
