My folks bought land in Xiang Ngeun (their hometown) about 10 years ago. They built a house there and moved back in 2021. They couldn't be any happier. I went to go visit them in 2022 and saw what they saw and instantly fell in love. I too plan on building my house there as well. We are proud Americans but Lao is our home. Love your content and keep doing what you are doing!
Building a new life in southern laos myself, I'm privileged enough to work in an industry whete i can live a FIFO lifestyle, Australia for work then straight out of there once the project I'm working on is wrapped, I'm putting all my eggs into laos, right now the house my partner is building in a province near pakse and later this year I'll be looking to buy more land to build another house on hopefully along the mekong for a holiday destination for family and friends, your spot on! The peace, the quiet and the affordability of a better lifestyle 👌👌👌 And also true! Those who mock and doubt, who have nothing but negativity to say have never left the box they live in! Their loss!

What a huge difference for little cost. Such wonderful views. We live in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, just over the boarder and feel the same way as you. We too have built and feel blessed with what we have now compared to what we hand in the States. There is no comparison when it comes to comforts and life styles where I would rather be. I'm blessed to have retired in Thailand with my wife..
Thanks for the update and costs Todd. The workmen have done an excellent job and Eddie must be thrilled with how it has all been completed. That whole area is so beautiful and who could rival a view like that to wake up to! Looking forward to the Mina's Adventures Down Under series of vlogs, but in the meantime, Happy, Blessed and Safe New Year to you, Neenee, Mina and your mother! God bless you all 😀❤🙏

You speak so many facts in this video. I love it. This is still my bucket list. I'm a carpenter and timber faller. I believe I could live my best life in a place just like this. I basically live like this currently..... But it's just not in Laos❤
I see the videos with Mina in Vientiane, her childhood is reminiscent of the childhoods of Americans and other Western countries during the post-WWII 40s-50s era, it's nice to raise children in an environment that is relatively more carefree than where I am from now.
Looking good the kitchen looks nice. My only suggestion would be with the house being that close to the water and having all those windows I would be afraid of all the mosquitoes. I would probably be planting some mosquitoe repellent plants like mint and lavender.
Many farangs are discovering south east Asia is not a “shit hole”. It’s very cheap and interesting to live there. It could be argued that living in a highly regulated and over taxed society is the “real” shit hole. I might go and move to Laos myself one day if my lao wife will ever let me, I doubt she will though because she enjoys buying luxury goods in Brisbane too much. Cheers Matt/Samleth
Mate, the house is looking brilliant. I love the kitchen. Well, its all good. It will be a lovely place to live. I hope Eddy's corn is popping up by now.
I am repeating myself but want Lao people who would like to return to Lao to know that, if they are still Lao at heart, they should expect no big problems if they come back. I think that adding screens, at least downstairs, would be a worthwhile addition.
Well done mate ,Thats a bargain and a great move to do it now rather than later. I am a senior construction site manager and i wouldnt be able to get any workers for a start ,so it would take 12 months to built for 100k 5555. Happy New Year guys!

Just curious, do they have home improvement stores like Home Depot over there? Or places where you can buy plywood and studs? From an engineering perspective, building or renovating homes in Laos doesn’t seem too complicated, unlike to houses in the States. Looks like you dont need to pull a permit and inspector. With the right power tools and supplies, we could easily cut costs and improve efficiency.

Developing Countries like in SEA are on their way up. Developed Western Countries are on their way down. Now Westerners are seeing past their prejudices and seeking better lives in Asia, cause no growth creates complacency and societal conflicts within. I argue Asia doesent look at West with as much prejudice as the West does with Asia. Which you find out is wrong to think that way.
