How do you ensure you attract black soldier flies instead of regular house flies which carry disease? Aren't they attracted to the same things?
Flies like anerobic putrifying conditions...whereas black soldier flies like facultative environments (fermenting) so basically..lacto bacillus strains..yeasts etc...
Dont keep more than 10cm height of material (best is coffee grounds)...
While bsf an come in similar environments as house flies...the above conditions are not attractive to house flies.

Great guidance madam. However, may I know the best season for the first colony to a starter and whether or not there any indicators for the availability of Black soldier flies which one c an use to determine their availability before starting a colony given that they are not easily seen.
A question madam; Houseflies are attracted to rotting protein which can be found in both chicken and swine manure. Will the attractant you use not attract houseflies too?

They will both come, but BSFs will actually eat the housefly larva to dominate the colony area.

Can you feed the larvae or pupae to chickens and other animals 100% for their food?
The BSF larvae is used as a protein source from what I've seen. It's mixed with other fats and nutrients to be used as a food source.

Oh! I don't like waiting. I have just placed the organic waste in my garden to get the larvae and I am already anxious to see my flies flying in the cage.
If you do that (put the fermented smelly bait) in my area, in less that two days, it will be full of housefly larvae. As a matter of fact, the houseflies would already be buzzing around your head before you can put the bowl down. I am not sure anyone could succeed with such flies.

If houseflies attracts then how we will separate it from black solider fly larvae..

house fly maggots will took a 12 hr period to mature. So with a period of those 30 days you will not get them there.

House flies don't transmit diseases through larvae but they transmit diseases through direct contact with human excreta & then contaminate foods.

How can I make sure I only attract black soilder fly from the environment considering we have all these other flies in our surroundings?
Cover the bait box with mosquito mesh and place wood blocks with gap of 2mm adult fly will lay eggs inthe gap and in 3days it will hatch and drop into the Bait matter and there it will grow. Or else house fly will over run the whole thing..I had experienced it ...
