Picking Up my TVR! - Importing a TVR to the USA! Update 4

- At long last, it's finally time to pick up my TVR Cerbera from my import broker. In this video, I travel from Arizona with my friends Drew and Bryce, who join me in the adventure of picking up my TVR, driving it around Southern California, and making a couple pitstops at Hoonigan, and South OC Cars & Coffee, before driving back to Arizona.
A huge thank you to Bryce and Drew. I couldn't have done this adventure without them and it would have never been near as fun without them.

Congratulations from the UK! That looks like a stunning cerbera. They're such amazing cars. I've had my Griffith 500 now for 10 years and love it more and more. It's a very similar colour to yours but a shade darker. Just had a blast in it yesterday in the British sunshine! Such a good feeling. Best thing about TVRs is the reaction you get from the public. There's nothing quite like it 😀
Thank you! Yeah, mine definitely turns heads. Most of the time, it's simply to ask, 'what is that?'
Man I can't believe you can finally import the Cerbera under the 25 year rule to the states. I used to drool over this car growing up with Gran Turismo. I hope to see as many TVRs on the road as I see many imported JDM cars in my area of North NJ.
It's definitely a head turner!
It might have removable spacers to allow the seat to lower I have 5l Chimarea ,with removable top .
Greetings from the UK! As your car still had its UK plates, I was able to run an MOT check on it and it passed its last two years previous checks with no advisories or issues. If you weren't aware an MOT is an annual roadworthiness test that all cars over 3 years old are legally required to pass to be driven on UK roads. It's pretty thorough so it looks as if your car has been well cared for. Chassis rust is the big problem with Cerberas and yours is clearly in great shape.
Hey there Andy! Yeah, the previous owner took great care and I was able to see those MOT as well. There's some surface rust here and there but nothing serious. It's been a fun journey. I'm in the middle of doing a full blown review =) So I hope to post that in the coming weeks.
@@AaronsEccentricGarage Looking forward to watching that! I quite fancied a Cerbera but finding a good one even here in the UK is difficult. I'm currently restoring my 1987 Porsche 928 S4 which is a bit different than the Cerbera (but very expensive!)
@@AndyD070568 Great project! I used to work for Porsche in North Scottsdale, AZ and when I spoke with the parts manager, he shared that the 928 has some of the most expensive parts of all porsches. go figure!
@@AaronsEccentricGarage Yeah, tell me about it. And that's the stuff that's still available! I save a good chunk of cash by doing a lot of the work myself. Most of the mechanical stuff is sorted, just the respray and interior left - the really expensive stuff!!
Good for you for taking the plunge into TVR ownership...I had a California Sage Cerbera Speed 6 when I was in the British Army..ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT...
However..they are like a racehorse...they NEED to be used..and like a horse..if they are not used..they become lame?..
Enjoy..enjoy...enjoy
I absolutely agree! I try to drive mine once a week or at least every other.
Congratulations! As a former TVR owner, it's my duty to advise you that they can go in any one of four directions - and you don't always have a choice which one that is!
Not if you don't stomp on the accelerator like an idiot. Feed the throttle and use the full length of the pedal. Also the longer wheelbase make this a more stable TVR. I've owned a Cerbera 4.5 and a Tuscan S btw.
I'm really excited for you Aaron! My Chimera gets so much positive attention in WA state. Great video editing. Looking forward to watching more vids.
Thank you so much for the compliments and support.
Made me smile! Great video editing of the LA scenery. Enjoy the car!
Thank you! I appreciate that a lot
Bad ass ride
Thank you!
Still looks fantastic, my favourite looking car that could kill you at any time 👍
Agreed! The paint is stunning too. Photos don't do it justice
Man that 15 minutes just blew by !!
Hope you found it enjoyable =)
Best video yet!!! Definitely makes me wanna do another road trip.
Probably a couple months away for Drew 😉
Cannot wait to see this channel grow. Nice video👌
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement and support
Loved seeing this car in person!!!
Gonna see it more often 😉
Still a very cool car.
I totally agree! 😉 turns heads everywhere
Looks like there were a lot of people interested in it. By the way, it’s not often that I’m pleased to be 5’8”. But every time a get into the TVR. I grin watching all the tall people struggle
It really turns heads everywhere it goes! I'm 6ft and have to duck to get in but once I do get inside, happy as a clam.
It was designed by a man 6'4 and he fitted in perfectly fine. ;)
Wonderful and congratulations!
I moved to PA and left my 4.2 cerbera (& chimaera 450) back home, with the engine removed and in pieces.
I’ll be curious to know just how hard (& $) it is to import a 25 yr old car.
If you need the workshop manuals let me know. Piston heads is a great forum for Tvr’s.
Importing is easier than you think. =)
Good to see TVR being allowed to be driven in the USA. Blackpool muscle car. I cannot imagine many people in the USA would know what a TVR is. Marcos cars is another one that are like a British muscle car and also Noble,Morgan, Lister, Bristol and AC cars would be pretty exotic to amercian petrolheadz
Yeah, most common question is.. what is that?!
It's been a lot of effort, but well worth it.
This car will bite you in the ass soon enough, but I think you have bought a good one as it goes. Better than the nightmare Cartrek Carisma Cerbera, which is a tough starting point.
My Dad would say, 'a professional cost may sting at first, but the sting will disappear if the job is good and it will pay back for years of enjoyment. Pay cheap and it may disappoint you every day.'
My Cerbera is a shitbox to look at, but it's a sweet machine underneath.
Yeah, already had a couple electrical gremlins.
Don't forget
That the authentic experience is to put a monta musica disc in
Or a music album disc from scooter
it still has the CD changer in the trunk, and had an Adele disc in the dash player lol
Got to get that tvr action. Surreal to me seeing that gorgeous setting. Blackpool where they were built is Not so ...sunny.
It was overcast most mornings but when the sun popped out, the paint looks so different.
It's a little overcast now, but it was actually pretty nice earlier today.
@@alexandertroy9621 it's 66f and raining in Blackpool.
@@Saint_Vincent1735
Not on my house it ain't.
@@alexandertroy9621 nice weather update Alex
nice cars...but it looks like yours shares the same electric problems than mine: the door & window opening looks to be damaged at yours: once you press the mirror bottom, the window should lower a few inches, than the door should pop open. after the door has been shut, the window should automatically go up in upper position. this topic is one of the major weakest point in this cars electric. another advise: bypass the immobilizer...it will only cause trouble longterm. its behind the helmet-shelf (back seats).
No problems actually. The battery was disconnected and when reconnected, the system automatically goes into lock and rolls up the windows. The folks at the shop left the key in the car. Once we used the secret way to get in. Got the key and unlocked the car, it worked exactly as it should.
I have a 2000 Tuscan when the USA is ready for it.
That's my next purchase in a few years
Great video, how are you getting on with it? I've got a tvr chimeara and just put a video up of a big tvr convoy of 90 cars. Check it out see what you think.
Aside from a drive here and there, I haven't had a whole lot of seat time unfortunately. I moved into a new house and have been busy packing and unpacking
You should put some gopros around and get some street reactions driving through the city, congrats.
Thank you. I plan on doing a full review as my next video
I've just checked the British MOT on this vehicle and it's only showing two previous tests, which is a little unusual.
That's a great observation! The owner changed the plate to be personalized to the P22NSD. I can't recall what it was prior off the top of my head. With that said, the previous owner was a meticulous record keeper and I have full binder of service and history docs going back to 1997. 😀
Which engine, Speed6 or V8? Best looking car in your garage imho. :)
4.2 speed 8. The speed 6 wasn't an option to later models. 😀
@@AaronsEccentricGarage Nice! I have a Tuscan (Mk2), based in UK and it's a car |I'll never sell.. Have seen a few recent videos of people importing TVRs to the US. Prices are going up so suspect US exports have something to do with it. There's only 13 Cerberes up for sale in the UK as of today. Great choice btw, theyre worth every penny and appreciate in value weekly.
Looks like a Dodge Viper, only its way faster
It's like a jag, porsche, and viper had a threesome baby 😆 it's really unique
Please please please gen1 viper against this on the 1/4 mile…

I know a guy with a gen 2, so I'll have to see how they compare.
Let's run it against my G than the Mazda and my BMW. We can do a bracket race.
@@azrockpunk when it's not a bazillion degrees, sure!
Nah it's sorta a winter sport. Like penguins and Eskimos and ice.

Gorgeous car. Is the chassis good? Seen a load of videos where they've rotted to dust.
just a little surface rust is all. That was one of the many things I had the local shop take a closer look at, prior to pulling the trigger to buy the car. The shop (DGS) says that it's one of the better chassis they've seen that hasn't been replaced yet.
Yoi can buy a brand new chassis for about £6K. It really isn't that much of a problem.
Getting parts is going to be a nightmare
@BlatentlyFakeName not really! Aside from the proprietary parts, TVR was notorious for using off the shelf bits. IE the altenator came off a 95 Land Rover Discovery. The brakes are made by AP Racing. Things that are proprietary to the car, are readily available in the UK, but take a couple weeks to arrive. The most difficult pieces to obtain: front and rear window glass. Can't get those in the USA. Hagerty said for me to order it from the UK and they'll reimburse me the cost. 🤔
😎
ANyone got an ID on the car behind the TVR? The one under the covers? 4:15
for privacy reasons, CARS covered up most of the cars in the garage.
