- Sheene having finally sorted his suzuki with new Harris yokes gives Haslam a hard time on the factory Honda.
Pity Barrys bike didnt behave like this for the earlier match races ! I was down at the B'OL Dor at the time on my trusty gs 1000. - Спорт
Mmmm, the wonderful sound of a big 2 stroke. Still miss it. 😢
Pretty sure this is Barry on his 750...its not a 1000 is it...750 right....this is his last bike in his collection..hes was smart telling at the end of the year in his contract that he got u he bike...you have a bond with it of sorts..i had my first dual purpose bike an i ride it 75 hours a week people would say what is done to it id say me i sleep on it...when i kept up with 78 RM 125...on a 75 honda XL 125..four stroke...those to bike are in the same league...i sunk it in a river an floated down stream 15 yards before pushing it over an up a 5 foot embankment..yeah u bond with ur bike...i pushed it home 2 miles an then it starts at the house...oh was i pissed an happy then..hah hah peace
Who won?
Thanks!
not even full race highlights booo!!
Sheene was such a smooth rider, closing up on the cornering but lacking that bit of power on the straight, he’s a much missed personality, like James Hunt, both were top quality.
people say Roberts was better... but considering Sheenes accidents..especially the 2nd when he obliterated his legs... its incredible he came back from them.. and still raced at the top.. great memories regardless who was your fave rider.. .. .. remember waiting outside his caravan at mallory in 76 aged 10 for an autograph.. but he was busy so i got Katayama's and dave potter instead..... great times
Heart hurts for those of this era that we lost far too soon, Barry was a great rider and did so much for Australian motorsport after his retirement, wish he was still around today.
Gave Daniese his idea for a back protector and took no money for it just to help out his fellow riders. Thanks Barry! RIP
Man we miss people like Barry Sheen, don't we?
Everything in GP so vanilla now by comparison.
A fantastic guy ,always my hero ,taken too young. A lovely man.
Bloke was a English icon. Met him a few times in the late seventies and an absolute gent! Took the time to talk to you and have pictures taken in the paddocks of various racetracks. RIP ❤️
I think you will find it was called Marketing. The more pictures you got taken the more you showed off your sponsors and the bigger the chance of being published (even in yr private home).
Whereas nowadays pilots have organised sponsor and advertising days (they hate) but are obliged through contract to attend.
Their days at the tracks are finely tuned and 'minuted' so they no longer have the time to smoke casual cigarettes (they don't smoke ... because they are athletes now) and hang around with spectators or the public in general.
They have personal coaches for everything and PR teams.
No wonder they have no time for casual "selfies".
We are living the 21st century my friend.
@@team3383 truth mostly but Sheen was genuinely a good bloke
We miss Sheene here in Australia too, where he lived after his riding career. Comiserations to the poms, we share your pain
@@tosgem Not sure he would have lasted an hour with a modern team. He was a great bloke, but he wouldn't have had the patience to put up with the way modern teams work.
I remember in the 90's when pilots used to cross EU at full chat on big BMW's to get to the race tracks. Race on the wednesday, thursday, friday saturday & sunday and then ride home .... Thats now impossible and the teams wouldn't allow it either.
@@team3383 you can't compare era's. Many riders from back then wouldn't compete under modern standards. It does not compromise their legacy whatsoever.
Except it's not his last race, he was winning races at Goodwood up to 2002.
I met him at Phillip Island in 1996 when Mick Doohan won another World Title. Barry Sheen had charisma And Was One Of The Best Bike Racing Comentators Back Then.
Brilliant commentator
every kid growing up in the 70,s wanted to be barry on a suzuki , number 1 bloke and here to many !
No. He was a number 7 bloke.
Yep that was me too, finally got to see him race in 1985 or 86 here in South Africa, what a legend. Loved this man
I just wanted his girlfriend's.
Nice vid but whats the point when the race result is not shown.
Always had a smile on his face. Helped so many of the younger riders. A great character if ever there was.
I love hearing all my old hero's names being called they were the days .
I was only racing at Donington 2 weeks ago against 'Rocket' Ron Haslam in a CB500 endurance race.....He's still bloody quick and not surprisingly ended up winning it along with the other 2 members of his endurance team.
Well he never stopped riding did he, thanks to his school at Donington and nobody knows every inch of that track like Ron. Had the pleasure of spending a day with him at his home a few years back when I was a journalist. A lovely fella, and a nice family. Despite the fact he forgot we were coming, he treated myself and my colleague to lunch, offered us a spin at Donington on the back of his bike and even invited us to his family fireworks party that evening. A true gentleman and rightly called a legend of the track.
@@Wally-H Well said about the King of Donnington
I was never a Barry Sheene fan, I was more old school, Mike The Bike and John Hartle. BUT you have got to appreciate his skill and guts. His demeanour in his final days was unbelievable. Not sure that many of us could have performed so well whilst in the grips of cancer. Thanks Bazza for keeping the flag flying
What a legend !!!
Happy days when you could see the racing not just a fucking great fence.!
His last race was at Good wood 2001 in clasic event I saw him and he won
I was there too, I was trying to work out if it was 2001 or 2002 but I think you're correct. We saw some great battles between Barry Sheene and Wayne Gardener.
It was 2002 at Goodwood, he also raced at Donnington classic race at Moto Gp in 02 just before Goodwood. I was there and it was great to see him win 😊
I love the style of these bikes. RIP to all that have pushed it to the end.
Top Rider Top bloke too , ,!
And a Master at Pulling a bird !!
Girls loved him !
Donnington, I ws on the pit wall, so much for security.
Got some great pics.
that wasnt barry sheene,s last race his last race was on a manx norton in 2000
Amazing, he pledged to race for the fans, sheene made a few mistakes but he kept to his pledge!!
Jerry Burgess has been around for...like...FOREVER!!! Rocket Ron, Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi - what a career!
He was my hero. I thought I was a GP Champ on my RD250 lol
Apachecat Cat I thought I was Barry sheene back in 76 on my Suzuki GT380
@@angelosantaniello4113 Me to on my, GT 125 twin, two stroke.
@@kellyk5946 awesome my bud had an RD400, he was Kenny Roberts lol
@@angelosantaniello4113 I thought the same as a 16yo🤣, Barry Sheen 'The Legend', whilst riding my suzuki blue AP50🤣🤣. I am now 60yo😁, riding a GSXS1000F😁, still think I'm 16yo🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧
I believe his last race was actually a classic race on a Fred Walmondsly prepped Manx Norton billed as a support race at the 2002 British MotoGP, he won.....
+Chris Thomson: As was I :) good memories indeed....
+SmokinJoe347 last race was at goodwood
It was his last race before retirement from racing, the goodwood race was his last race before he passed away and when he just did the odd race for fun. but you know that and just being pedantic
Ohh the great Barry Sheen, what a master
I remember watching Barry when I was still at primary school. It seems like yesterday, dad took us boys to see him race all the time for years, still look up to him as a hero and still after all these years, cannot believe he has passed away, what a guy.
Does anyone remember when was this race ? That looks like a very old version of Donington Park.
Great to be reminded of the days when purpose built (2-stroke) race bikes were available and there were plenty of them out there.
Not his last race !!!
ロン・ハスラムのニックネームは、ロケット・ハスラムじゃなかったっけ。後が弱いんよね。

A true legend
im 76 I got the smell of castrol r when I was 7 at perry barr speedway stadium I use to sneek in at half time in my time ive seen some of the greats in all forms of motor bike racing you name it ive seen it I tried it I was crap I just loved the artistry of some man on bikes the sound that reaches parts of you combine with smells is better than my heart medication im getting withdrawn ive started screaming at things im in desperate need of live motorbike racing or a lot stronger heart medication
hi roy know what you mean about castrol R i spent many years karting and used that oil in 2 stroke engines we used in those days the smell still takes me right back in time like no other smell and ime 65 cheers my friend
top bloke, sadly missed
2 Strokes ruled the waves " till honda bought the FIM.
i live in Sawley, Long Eaton. this is my local track. i've spent countless hours here watching races over the years, watching who, i didn't know at the time, were to become iconic names in racing. i feel truly honoured that i can, and do, trackdays on my R1, in the very same tyre tracks as these awesome riders. all of them, every single one of them , awesome riders.
Stabbo lad ere
Gave Barry a lift in my van at silverstone gp 1981 on Stowe corner I was marshaling got my picture in MCN with barry carrying his helmet Crosby wouldn't get in my van they had words but didn't last bazza took croz up in helicopter Bazza my hero miss him no one comes close now RIP my friend
When Barry sheene lived in Charlwood, I was his milkman!! !
Every Saturday, cause his "manor house " was the last I'd deliver to go the village, I'd pop in and have a cuppa with his wife, Steph, whilst I cashed up...
The leathers he was wearing when he came off at Daytona (doing 180 MPH) were hung in his pantry... it always reminded me of the scene from "silence of the lambs " where Hanibal Lector flayed the policeman whilst escaping...
Ah grim...
But...
2STROKE separate the men from the boys
Christmas 1965. Him 15 me 18, he came over to his mates (my gf's) house in Pimlico and we decoked a 250 Royal Enfield on Xmas day.
Almost empty Donington Park - wonder what the attendance would be if you could re create this race today???
B R 7 forever.............
Met and got his autograph at the transatlantic trophy brands hatch .The best top bloke
Now that im wiser u see howfactory teams need to show by running out front...salt likebarry just push enuf till ron used up his tire an barry had better lined any way.....he just waited....fast an the furious...it dont matter if u win by an inch or a mile winning is ......we like those race when they winby an inch like we could hold hands going across the finish line..that really gets thefans out of their seats better
Mick Grant the Legend is still doing suspension at track days - All Legends

"Barry Sheene's last race".
There! I fixed your title.
LAST TIME I SHOOK MY HERO,S HAND/RIP BARRY-NEVER FORGOTTEN
This was certainly not Barry's last race.....
I WAS THERE!!!
So was i 👍
I saw him win at Donnington in 2001.
Talking about bike frames barry was saying how 2 brothers in england built him a frame he wanted an Mclea has one also...
just to think....i do trackdays here riding in the tyregrooves laid down by pure legends. i live in long eaton, just a stones throw from this track. i forget how iconic this circuit is. shame on me and most of my trackday nutty mates, including jack marshall, aarun rodgers and all the rest of you.
Im guessing that know one knows this track better than barry sheene....i can see his line like mine i always used to go tighter an as far to the inside it shorter an quicker less distance traveled people get lazy an run wide then a little wider...anleave a lot of room to get passed on the inside one on time an one by position....
The US. should have done more to promote motorcycle racing. Tennessee has areas where a TT type race could be held on public roads.
Not Barry Sheenes last race.
He raced classic bikes at Goodwood some time well after this meeting.
@MultiPERKZ
I have the full race on dvd for just a fiver!
Ya mean he's gonna SPLAT?! OK let's see that, sounds titillating. 😀
Er, I think that should be:
Barry Sheene’s Last Race.
the last of the great sportmen
1984........simply superb footage, thanks for sharing
I had forgotten how much I hated hearing Murray Walker
I met him at Oulton Park well I said met him he walked past me never even said hello yah a great bloke.
Chris Carter commentating. Lovely!
h bikelife it was 2002 his last race
Goodwood Revival. I was at the 2001 event, few days after 9/11. That was Barry's birthday. RIP.
The tyre technology in those time was crap compared to now. I can personally vouch for that.
Is Bazza on the XR45 Suzuki?
All the good old names I remember them with affection
Not his last race, that was at Goodwood revival in 1999 on a Manx Norton.
this wasn't his last race.
his last race was at olivers mount scarborough
Just shows how low people will stoop to in order to get " views " .
Was that guy on the front row wearing sunglasses ? Lol.
Tyres have gotten a lot better, along with suspension and frames and engines... Riders have gotten a little different, not sure they're better, a bit more accurate and precise, a bit less brave and gung ho.
I was having a slash in the Gents at Phillip Island watching Foggy race, looked over and he was in the stalls as well. He must have been commenting for Aussie TV. Anyway it's amazing how much further modern Moto GP racers crank their bikes over.
Haslam always was Mr quick start rider
@jackt2469
I have the full race on dvd for just a fiver.
A 💰💰 RR RACE 🙋♂️🏍🔥🏁.GASS❎
who ,1,why show it then cut off ,the finish?
Where's the chequered flag part?
I was sitting in turn 1 :D
heading or title is wrong last race was historic race at goodwood but still good footage to watch
UNO DEI MIEI MITI...CIAO BARRY!!! :)
Roger Marshal does a talk at lunchtime on the old days at Cadwell Park BSB. This is just on BSB radio and for the hordes. Golden times, I could listen all day, the laughs they had before the Corporates took over......
I was there :)
Are you stephanie the old spice girl . I use it every day.
mad max No! Although I did meet Stephanie! And Barry, but not at that meeting! Years before.
mrssheene pl
From the look of the 'crowd' you and about 20 others !
Oh good you can tell me how it ended! 😡
Donington 1984 Superbikes. But he did race later on a Manx Norton in the early 2000's
This race was in 1985
Who won in the end?
Donignton Park England
Barry is doing well i raced against that honda briefly the v four honda was so complicated they stopped making it it was loaded with torque...
a great loss to the sport
Where and when was this?
1986 this? Sheene was 34 years old.
1984 i think
Gardner: yeh, WOS thingummybob title. Whatevs....
Un Gran Piloto ,está corriendo por los cielos con otros grandes ....
これ1984年かな?最後迄観たかったな。
