Even just doing this demo for the interview the stick tricks just pop up. They're embedded deeply in his DNA. I love that. As a fellow drummer who hasn't played much in a few years? I taught myself how to do your basic stick spin? Which, by itself, looks kinda cool-ish? But as soon as I sat behind my kit & tried to incorporate the spin seamlessly so it fit in? Discovered I'd taught myself to spin it in the opposite direction of where it would look cool slipping it in during the songs. Any of them. And as you can probably imagine? I've been unable to break that habit & change the direction so it would just fit in perfectly. I think it's nice when drummers have their own stage show & do flashy tricks so the audience doesn't just ignore them. Some purists seem to hate stick tricks. Their loss. In my not very humble opinion.
