Ahh if we all grew food and shared with out neighbors instead of putting all our money into grocery stores which are increasingly non-local but owned by megacorps...
Yes his couple have been able to enjoy their garden. They are able to get all the vegetables they need and save money on it. They know where their food comes from and know it’s safe and the way they want. They also have a nice front garden view. It’s neat and organized and look beautiful.
Incredible that government feels they have the right to dictate what you have in your own front lawn. It is mind blowing. As a person who has become passionate about vegetable gardens the past few years - I applaud this couple for fighting for their right to grow their own food on their own land. Their space is gorgeous!
I just saw this, could not believe that anyone in their right mind could complain about something so beautiful, productive & beneficial... Everyone benefits from this. Love what you guys have achieved! Love from Australia
Some people are boring, dull and you name it and they'd rather have boring ugly lawns than a front yard garden. And now, there's another hoax inflation and global market manipulation by the few rich so they can amass more profit from food consumption businesses... And that's why we have to outsmart them by learning to grow our own foods so we don't have to be at the mercy of market manipulation...
I agree! There are certainly front gardens/yards that are an eyesore but a fruit veg and herb garden with some nice scented flowers in the mix sounds heavenly to me. Though it is the middle of the night here in Ireland, I have just measured my front garden and am about to draw plans for my own productive space.
While I don’t totally agree with you that people can plant whatever they want in their front yards, I do love the idea and wold love this in my neighborhood as long as it was “ controlled”, pleasing to the eye that is.
Wonderful garden...so nice that you have to share of the bounty, and that now your efforts have made it possible for others to have front yard gardens! So beneficial in every way!
I happened to come across this 'front lawn project' in my neighbourhood some years ago and am very glad to see people all over the world are making this happen. Personally I think a vegetable garden is an enrichment of not only your life, but also the estate itself. Those who say all front lawns should be grass-filled, useless aestheticae should open their minds to this idea. Who wouldn't want to be able to use all of their garden space to the fullest?
It amazes me that one can have a home and pay a mortgage, yet have someone tell you that you MUST have a lawn. This frustrates me to the core. People have had gardens for ages, while the obsession with flat boring lawns is quite a new phenomenon. I'm so glad this couple was able to keep their beautiful garden.
Some places, u can't even landscape or pave it over without consulting a thick manual or rules. I don't think i'd want to live in such a neighbourhood.
theuglykwan I live in NYC and it's not a problem here. Urban farming is huge here. People now have coops and bee hives! But it's definitely a problem in residential neighborhoods outside the city. I find it very strange that people would rather have a useless lawn than fill it with edibles that can save them hundreds and even make them healthier.
Because they are lazy...and busy bodies. I don't get why people rather cut grass every week and water the lawn when they could invest in their own backyard orchard. Imagine how many fruit trees you can buy with the cost of one iphone. People are so out of touch that they rather import food from across the globe and pay with their health. Gardening takes initial effort, resources, and knowledge.
Rinsuki I guess people like their manicured lawns. Although, it would be great if cities can plant fruit trees on the streets or berries. We have giant london planes here in nyc that are quite useless. The parks dept. had a program called Million trees and gave out tons of trees but most aren't that useful just for cosmetics. If I could I would litter the sidewalks with edibles but I'm sure some douchebag will complain.
Yes they will. I see so much wasted space purely for looks and it isn't helping native insect life. I'm sure someone will sue if their child or pet decides to munch on some herbs from your yard. I see people in my neighborhood bask in the sun for hours but beyond cutting the grass many don't care for gardening but they will ask for some produce. There's no reason people water their lawns or clean their decks or side walks wasting gallons of water but when it comes to watering their plants they forget...go figure
What a beautiful garden! I’m so glad you believed that what you were doing was right and that you fought for it. You’ve become my inspiration. I’ve grown a few things but I want to be able to grow all of the vegetables my family eats.Job well done!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
i have seen numerous home garden videos, but this is the best, how carefully they install the vegetable garden in front of their Home and did not besmirch the beauty of house and road, they secured the legally as well, thats impressive, and their fight for legalization is encouraging, Applause!!!
It confounds me how people think they can take away the basic right to grow healthy food in the name of vanity and "civilized standards". Thank God for people who stand up for what's right.
Continuez votre beau travail.
so glad i've found this story on UA-cam. a while ago i've read this story on pinterest and named their front yard garden as the most well known front yard garden of the world. i am happy for them, they have beautiful garden setting and abundance harvest. stay happy and healthy for you both and for people in the world who loves gardening
I love the way you go through the passion. It is neat and lush green. So it won’t upset neighbours, and visitors. I am glad you guys educate the city bylaws. If need support, I am in. Cheering from Vancouver, BC.
beautiful garden, and a great showcase for others to view to see that we are all farmers at heart. Your front yard is a portrait of the bounty of the earth. bless you both.
It's odd that governments are urging folks to get healthy, grow their own food, etc then penalizing them when they do it. I can understand a neighbor being upset with a farm-like look but the raised beds and flowers were striking, very beautiful.
Well it tends to be local government that does it because a few vocal individuals whine. The majority are apathetic and don't keep up so the better organized side will often win.
They should make a bye-law against the soul destroying, narcissistic, sick, individuals that would make a complaint about a neat, well cared for & beautiful, neighbourhood enhancing garden like that. The day someone has a front garden full of rat infested, rusting scrap metal, or has dumped a load of manure close to your bedroom window, or lets their blackberries start overgrowing your fence, then you can complain, till then, if you don't like it, well, you just look the other way. Its not affecting your life. If you don't like someone elses taste in garden design, just be polite & look in the other direction.
I mean why the neighbour must be upset. It's their property and land. Unless it is affecting the neighbours directly it is none of their business. If they don't like seeing a garden then they can stay in the house and don't look at the gardens.
You have the most beautiful and so green and clean garden I've seen..! Congratulations on your fight to keep your garden. Thank you for sharing..! 💯%👍👍😁
Great story. Thanks for fighting against such an unreasonable bilaw! I wonder who could possibly complain about something like this. It's so beautiful and you're doing such good work for yourselves and for the community. Merci beaucoup!
just simply an amazing story. people are sick and dying from bad diets, lack of exercise, lack of sunshine, lack of purpose, etc. Here, someone complained NOT just because of the garden, but because this couple dared to take back their power and their health. there was a time when having land meant feeding our family. somewhere it turned into an atrocity of aesthetic lawns that need to be mowed every few weeks and lawns that produce zero food. as a young girl growing up in Miami, we had a giant avocado tree, an enornmous mango tree, and a cherry bush that ran the entire length of the backyard and all produced so much amazing fruit that I rarely enjoyed our mother's cooking! and, yes, it had a impact on my entire life creating a healthy palate for life. i turned Vegan at 17 and 42 years later I am still Vegan and I have never had surgery, a pill or ANY medication of any type, or any major illness. land is for survival and not just aesthetics. whoever complained is a hater and a slave to a world that only cares about profiting on our ill health. people often hate courage and outliers. I say BRAVO to this couple for not only their garden, but caring about everyone enough to get involved.
It is amazing to me how many people don't have even a small garden in their yard. even if you have a small yard you can grow vertically. every little savings helps and the taste if the fresh produce is so good ! you have a lovely garden and have some great ideas for the way you have constructed your garden.
Your garden is beautiful -- you have inspired me to start going in my front yard. Like you we do not get enough sun. Merci pour le partage. Cheers Patrick
Government is more corrupt than people understand. We are just used to being told what we can do with own own property, having to pay taxes on our own property, having every aspect of our life dictated. Which is against our own freedom and human rights.
I think you should be able to do what you want with your own property, provided it isn't an eyesore. Have a lawn or have a garden. Rock in your lawn to save water and maintenance cost. I have a tiny back yard on a hard to mow slope. I plan to plant clover between my raised beds. Maybe this will reduce the work that I have to pay someone else to do as I can't wrestle a mower over that terrain. Only a evil little troll or drunk on power "civil servant" would hassle these people for their lovely little garden.
omg,so true it is so Not environmentally friendly, waste so much water, and hard to maintain! Why the government has the right to tell us what we can do in our own property?!
why would people object to it? it's well maintained. how about dry dead grass filled with weeds? people just being contentious. it's their property and they're maintaining it. good for them.
theuglykwan totally get that, but these people obviously maintain their property. They take pride in working it, any reasonable person would love to have a neighbor who did that, know we sure would, lol. even if it was different than mine.
+irishbreakfast Are you serious that american home owners in suburbs and urban areas can own roosters and their neighbours are without recourse? That seems so unlikely to me as I have visited various american friends and suggested they do this and that to landscape and even very reasonable things were banned by local guidelines. I'm not sure if in Scotland the weather and often tiny gardens prevent us from doing much but it seems like some localities in the US had a group of busybodies legislate almost every eventuality into law with rather specific guidelines. Having kept chickens myself, I have to say if my neighbour got a rooster I'd complain. Hens would be no problem. I've kept them myself although you weren't supposed to and my neighbours didn't care. The fox kept sniffing around even a couple of years after I had eaten them!
theuglykwan it depends. Some areas have an HOA (Home owners Association) and they often have much stricter guidelines for what's allowed or not. Roosters do make hens lay more, but they aren't necessary and can fertilize eggs, which can be undesirable. The USA is very large, and differs widely from East coast to West coast, from Canadian border and Mexican Border. People are often surprised how different the culture as well as the climate can be. If you don't like it, just try a different area. Even suburbs vs rural in the same state can be quite different culture and norms.
I love this couple - what they have done is amazing and so good for all gardeners and potential urban farmers. Judging from their response it is good for the community too!
You have set such a great example for all of us who have the space and just did not take the plunge and you have explained such a simple way to go about it, thankyou
This is wonderful. I am glad they fought for others to keep having the right to have a front yard vegetable garden. It is unfortunate that the norm has become to maintain lawns full of chemicals, but not a yard full of nutritious home grown food. Glad more people are breaking those norms!
I did my front yard in garden here in Tampa last year. Before I even started I got it in writing that it was legal to do it from the city code enforcement. Neighbors complain. I had a security camera on my property some even come over and destroyed my garden. I file charges against them. One had a felony record on probation so he went back to prison. The other one now had a criminal record went to the county commissioner to try to get it outlawed I went to meeting and they about passed it and said they would table it until the next meeting. No body had ran against the county commissioner in 2 terms. I told him that I knew that he was running again that I will run against him.. I was retired and had a lot of free time. I told him that I did not need the $50,000 a year salary that he was getting that I was going to donate it to Veterans if I ran and use that while running. He backed out at that point because it was going to cost him money to run. I did run. lost but not by much... Plan on doing it again next time.
Paige yeah they’ve ruined their own states and cities, then they move to get away from the filth and high taxes they’ve created only to bring it with them.
Brilliant report. What a blessing. David up against the big Goliath of bureaucracy...and with his slingshot of one petition, in one month, had almost 30,000 signatures...WORLDWIDE...things changed quickly. Praise God for this wonderful example of people standing up for their God given rights.
Probably wasn't one. The council just use the excuse so they can go on a power trip. Happens all over the western world. Little, ignorant people get themselves into positions of authority so they can bully others. Anyone who tries to make it illegal to grow your food on your on property should be ridiculed and thrown in prison.
Great lifestyle and love all those veggies. Thank you for ur hard work for making front yard garden legal. I don’t understand why one can’t grow plants In the first place. Well done guys, Thank u
How wonderful your garden looks and that the city had some sense! I, too, have my garden in the front because of better sun exposure. Good luck with this year's garden and enjoy the fruits of your labors and your land.
I'm very excited to do this and to take control of my food just like you did! I have a huge suburban yard and I hate that grass requires chemicals...I needed some ideas of what to do and really appreciate that you've taken the time to post these important videos.
Greating from tiny island of Aruba , and just like you i also planted my veggie front yard and have the same impact with neighbors that came a long bringing compost and materials and seeds and now we have the intire neighborhood Front yard garden
Thank you for this video! I have an urban cottage garden. I enjoy my garden and I love growing my own flowers and vegetables. It is important to me to spread this vision of eating real food...fresh food in the city. Thank you for sharing your info.
Tous mes compliments👏votre jardin de vegetables est splendid et les marigolds qui donnent une touche d’embellissement à ce beau cadre et qui font fuir les moustiques aussi👍🏼🙋🏽♀️bonne besogne👈🏼😀💐
Being a Doc,I find it very stressful at work.So when i come home i love to do vegetable gardening. The outcome is very fruitful and healthy. All organic😋😋😋😋
Beautiful garden. I make my own front yard garden too leaving the backyard for fruit trees. That feeling of satisfaction when you pick your own produce is so fulfilling I cannot describe it. I stay away from local supermarkets that sell everything with pesticides and chemicals. However, when you start planting yummy vegetables all kinds of pests will come, some I have never seen in my life before. One day I counted like 20 over types of pests attacking my plants. So have to take the measure to make organic spray. Just lots of hard work and time and money too.
Excelente testimonio de lucha de esta familia para desarrollar un estilo de vida más sano y que fortalezca no solamente la salud física, sino especialmente el tejido social de la comunidad. ¡Felicitaciones Familias de Drummonville, Québec!
Your story about front yard vegetable gardening is very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your story. I have mine too here in the Philippines, also in my small front yard and I just started two months ago!
and neighbors steal from your garden and strip your fruit tees. Happens here in the Southwest where we can grow things yearround. Having a front yard fence or planting a LIVING fence with tall shrubs/cacti that have thorns helps to prevent that some.
Allison I currently have a bunny getting in my garden he ate all my cabbage plants all my broccoli and my beets. I have to figure out how he's getting in. Why don't these people seem to have pests??
Why would anyone want to make this illegal? What where their arguments to having a front garden like this? Great job guys! Looks amazing and very inspiring!
Some people complain about anything. That is a lush well maintained garden. It's not an overrun property. Glad they fought it and succeeded and I hope they found out who lodged the original complaint sometimes It's that pleasant smiling neighbor you wouldn't expect.
Fabulous! We congratulate you both. Now I am considering expanding my current garden to my front yard which does get more sun exposure. Thank you for your excellent video.
Hello from Northern Ireland. Congratulations on your success and your beautiful front garden. It is a sanctuary providing health giving food and healthy exercise for mind and body and encourages social interaction as well. I have never seen a garden like yours here in front of a house but I am planning to create one for myself. I just want to see if I can do it here without interference from neighbours or officials. Like you I want to encourage others to do the same and share the benefits of growing in the spaces around our homes. I do have a large garden behind and to the side of my property where I have fruit trees and bushes, vegetables, herbs and flowers. However until now have never ventured out to do much at the front. Thank you for your video and enjoy your lovely garden.
Great story and video, thanks for sharing. I'm an urban farmer and I've been growing in my back yard and vacant lots here in San Antonio Texas city center for several years now. I've often toyed with the idea of cultivating my front yard but never made the leap for obvious concerns. Your experience has given me the much needed kick-in-the-can for bringing my ideas to fruition. I would love to see a where-are-they-now video of your wonderful garden space. Thanks again for your courage and willingness to put yourself out there.Best Regards,GeraldBexar County TX
Your garden is charming and beautiful. I would love to live across the street from you and enjoy looking at it every day! There are people who don't mow their lawns, becomingtall, unkempt and full of weeds - I just don't see how the city would find that acceptable but a beautifully maintained and productive garden like yours to be a problem. I am also planning to incorporate vegetables into my front yard as well as I don't have much room in the back yard so am trying to maximize space. You have inspired me and thank you for standing up for all of us gardeners! God bless you and may your garden be bountiful and bring you happiness and good health for years to come!
Harvesting your own food is always the best choice very health. I love veggies our dish is consist of veggies always. I live in a very hot state so having a garden is always impossible unless using a green house. I love gardening I start planting mid March, Spring here only last 3 months than the heat wave kick in. I wish I can grow so many vegetables and herb here. Your garden look lovely!
Usually I would say that gardening in your front yard is tacky, but the way they have done it is very tasteful and considerate to their neighbors. Very, very beautifully done!!
They both have full time jobs, didn’t know how to garden and had to fight the city, now they are growing 80% of their produce ? Such an inspiration !
bhm
This is so much more beautiful than a lawn. And you keep it neat and lovely.
One of the best parts of this interview is when she says 'if there's an abundance, why not share?'. Great perspective
Ahh if we all grew food and shared with out neighbors instead of putting all our money into grocery stores which are increasingly non-local but owned by megacorps...

Whenever you do something nice and healthy the government will claim someone complained and try to ruin it for you .Thanks for standing up.
I agree. Yes, thanks for standing up.
Richard Day, please don’t see a conspiracy where there is none. It’s bad enough, as is...
I just saw this, could not believe that anyone in their right mind could complain about something so beautiful, productive & beneficial... Everyone benefits from this. Love what you guys have achieved! Love from Australia

Exactly....no interference from anyone as long as it's not harming anyone....
Too many laws, and too many taxes. People don’t even realize it lol.
Exactly. It actually beautified the front yard.

What a humble couple 🙏 love their friendly approach to everything. Very inspiring! Very neat and calming garden! 🍅🍆🥕🥔🌰🥬🥦🌶🧄🌽🧅🍓🍋🍊

Thank you for the subtitles because I really like this story. And now I have garden envy.
Great job. Nothing is more gratifying then eating the fruits and veggies of your hard labour.
You,ve done a great job for all of us to follow. Thank you for your strenght. You gave us a perfect example of how to make our homes a better place

I think LAWNS should be illegal. What a messed up world we live in where one must fight to grow food.

Wow that's such a beautifully presented and heavily producing garden . absolutely fantastic . I love it
I love this couple - what they have done is amazing and so good for all gardeners and potential urban farmers. Judging from their response it is good for the community too!
Love the story and the fight you two gave!!!! Bless you!!!
This story is such a great inspiration
Beautiful garden.... people should complain about NOT having a vegetable gardens like this all over the place....
I did my front yard in garden here in Tampa last year.
Before I even started I got it in writing that it was legal to do it from the city code
enforcement.
Neighbors complain.
I had a security camera on my property some even come over and destroyed my garden. I file charges against them. One had a felony record on probation so he went back to prison.
The other one now had a criminal record went to the county commissioner to try to get it outlawed
I went to meeting and they about passed it and said they would table it until the next meeting.
You go!
@@EastRiverHomestead Could you explain to me what a fleeing liberal is/does?
@@mominthe209 a fleeing liberal is basically a white person who wants everyone to live with lots of restrictions and high taxes.
altha 2014 more power to you.😘👍🏽
Paige yeah they’ve ruined their own states and cities, then they move to get away from the filth and high taxes they’ve created only to bring it with them.
This just popped up in my feed. Love seeing fellow Quebec growers.
Brilliant report. What a blessing. David up against the big Goliath of bureaucracy...and with his slingshot of one petition, in one month, had almost 30,000 signatures...WORLDWIDE...things changed quickly. Praise God for this wonderful example of people standing up for their God given rights.
Awesome viewing of this clip. Great job on all your hard work. Love the benefits for your health from making the change to eat more vegetables
beautiful, what you did for yourselves; inspiring and heroic what you have now given to others. Merci'
I wonder what sad person actually went through the trouble of filing a complaint about their garden.
Probably wasn't one. The council just use the excuse so they can go on a power trip. Happens all over the western world. Little, ignorant people get themselves into positions of authority so they can bully others.
Anyone who tries to make it illegal to grow your food on your on property should be ridiculed and thrown in prison.
ds2k15 I have a neighbor that would definitely do that she's always calling the town and the cops for stupid things.
Louisa Agate Me too!! People are just jealous or unhappy with themselves. They just like to bully
Allison yea she's miserable I kinda feel bad for her she's got a dark soul
To bad they do not make their names public.
Great lifestyle and love all those veggies. Thank you for ur hard work for making front yard garden legal. I don’t understand why one can’t grow plants In the first place. Well done guys, Thank u
Such a beautiful story... and people! Well done to you! In good health you go. Fantastic! x
your front yard look awesome. husband n wife work together. praise God.
wrwatson39 like in the garden of eden! Also the seventh day sabbath created in creation week
It looks nice and beautiful. You spend your time in gardening and eat healthy foods. Everybody should do that as the city looks more greener.
You guys are the best , I love your gardens , is look very beautiful , love healthy organic stuff , keep it up
How wonderful your garden looks and that the city had some sense!
This is a wonderful story, beautiful garden, and lovely people.
Wonderful video and terrific story-from start to finish. Thank you!
You have a beautiful garden. I remember when this was in petitions. I signed my name 💜 so happy more people are gardening 💜
Greating from tiny island of Aruba , and just like you i also planted my veggie front yard and have the same impact with neighbors that came a long bringing compost and materials and seeds and now we have the intire neighborhood Front yard garden
How can people not like this!it is beautiful❣️
Wow, your garden looks so beautiful and delicious organic green veggies. Thanks for sharing 👍
This is indeed a beautiful edible garden, not a vegetable farm. It makes your house more beautiful than the surrounding area. Congratulations.
Brilliant! I love your curb appeal. What a bountiful garden; so inspiring, truly.
Such beautiful and impressive vegetables. Love from Malaysia
EXCELLENT! A productive, healthy-looking, and aesthetically pleasing garden. Kudos to this couple. ( It's also a healthy way for people to live.)
Awesome... Keep up the good work..... God bless you and family......
Excelente testimonio de lucha de esta familia para desarrollar un estilo de vida más sano y que fortalezca no solamente la salud física, sino especialmente el tejido social de la comunidad. ¡Felicitaciones Familias de Drummonville, Québec!
Their garden is very beautiful and inspiring 😍
Your story about front yard vegetable gardening is very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your story. I have mine too here in the Philippines, also in my small front yard and I just started two months ago!
I've always wanted to have a vegetable garden in my front lawn in my future house. Front lawns are so plain, and such a waste of good land!
Nina Dees until your neighbor's dogs waters it every night
and neighbors steal from your garden and strip your fruit tees. Happens here in the Southwest where we can grow things yearround. Having a front yard fence or planting a LIVING fence with tall shrubs/cacti that have thorns helps to prevent that some.
Nina Dees I have so many squirrels, I don't think I could have a garden, let alone a bird feeder. It's squirrel wars out there! lol
Veggie Soup Sounds like their hungry.
Allison I currently have a bunny getting in my garden he ate all my cabbage plants all my broccoli and my beets. I have to figure out how he's getting in. Why don't these people seem to have pests??
Lovely and inspiring.
Great video, I enjoyed your watching your beautiful garden and your activism. Keep up the good work.
This is a wonderful story and so inspiring.
Why would anyone want to make this illegal? What where their arguments to having a front garden like this? Great job guys! Looks amazing and very inspiring!
Beautiful garden, beautiful people.
Some people complain about anything. That is a lush well maintained garden. It's not an overrun property. Glad they fought it and succeeded and I hope they found out who lodged the original complaint sometimes It's that pleasant smiling neighbor you wouldn't expect.
Wow it's awesome and amazing vegetables that you are growing in your front yards
Hey, Drummond!
Beautiful people with a beautiful veggies garden!👏👏👏
Beautiful garden and Beautiful couple
Bravo!!!! I love your garden and wish you the best!! Merci beaucoup!
Wonderful work of gardening 🌳🌳
Thank you very much for nice sharing👍👍👍
Take care my dear friend 💕🌷
Great story and video, thanks for sharing. I'm an urban farmer and I've been growing in my back yard and vacant lots here in San Antonio Texas city center for several years now. I've often toyed with the idea of cultivating my front yard but never made the leap for obvious concerns. Your experience has given me the much needed kick-in-the-can for bringing my ideas to fruition. I would love to see a where-are-they-now video of your wonderful garden space.
Thanks again for your courage and willingness to put yourself out there.Best Regards,GeraldBexar County TX
You are an inspiration! Congratulations!
Great story & this Couple are an Inspiration. Good for them for standing up for what is right. Cheers to them : )
Your garden is charming and beautiful.
Bravo pour vos batailles réussies (la santé et le potager) votre façade est merveilleuse !
Lovely video. Good story. Beautiful garden. Thankyou for sharing.
