I love his little quite gay "good lord"

The Captain being my favourite for five minutes gay
That’s actually a 15 minute video…. 😂
the fact that on the wikipedia page it says he’s a closeted gay just makes me happy
it actually does, brilliant!
hmm, nothing wrong with being open about being gay of course. i'm gay, i've got a boyfriend, and i'm very open about being gay, if some homophobe want's to get insecure about it, then i'll send them to the shadow relm.
Hes exactly what i want in a gay lead, its more adorable than anything
Agreed! The writers and actor did such a wonderful job portraying his queerness without making it into a joke or queerbaiting it
I liked that they didn't make it his whole personality. People are so much more than their sexuality.
@@pn5894 The actor is the writer
@@jasonhaven7170 for some things yes, but for others no.
The updated one needs to include the scene from “Something to share?” where the ghosts are all in a circle and Caps trying to share something (and it looks like he’s finally going to come out to everyone) but he's constantly interrupted.
100%! Though I’m waiting until the whole series had aired so people watching it week by week won’t see any spoilers :)

also “DOROTHY!”.. is she a friend of yours captain?
@@ivy9038 THIS!!!
Don't forget the whole romance speculation and Kitty saying "It could be the Captain!" and Robin's like, "Uh, no."
My theory is that Fanny’s homophobia isn’t just because she was brought up to be homophobic but also raw emotion from her own husband murdering her bc she found out that he was hiding his real sexuality. This theory is strengthened by when she was trying to teach Kitty about how babies are made in the early episodes. I’m pretty sure not even she realised how much of her bias comes from her husband.
I hope that's talked about in the last season- she's still very traumatized over her husband.
“heres to burried secrets” makes me cry every time
Yes, another year has passed and I've watched the series a few times and it still breaks my heart. (I don't know why, but it felt like it snuck up on me in this video!)
yeah i always cry
His back story was actually really well done and quite sad. Come to think of it, all of the ghost’s back stories were exceptionally well done because of how well the writer’s tied their tragedy to the era in which they lived. And that’s probably why it’s the best show on TV along with Derry Girls.
You could say, they suffered from having...Horrible Histories...
@@sklaWlivE Take my like and leave.
IT IS SO SAD WITH SEASON 5
I like the Captain's backstory more than Isaac's from the US version of the show, mostly because I think having feelings for someone that 😮you've known for so long makes more sense then getting engaged to a man from the enemy camp who you've only had a passing infatuation during your lifetime and inadvertently killed.
I really like that he's so clearly gay but he still hasn't come out to anyone or anything. Like it's not queerbait, because it's so obvious, but at the same time it's respectful of how it must be for him. Idk I really like they way they dealt w his sexuality on this show
It took him 250 years, but his American counterpart finally came out and is dating the ghost of the British officer he killed during the Revolution.
@@DavidLS1 HAHAHA YES!! I quite like captain higgintoot as well
And I love how everyone else knows as well (and seem totally fine about it) - the scene where they are trying to work out who Fanny is secretly shagging and they all instantly rule out Cap. It's very sweet.
I think it works since he’s a historical character who obviously couldn’t be out and out about it and can only imply or repressed it. Given the punishment for homosexuals in the UK during the 1900s-1950s. But the cool thing is at least he’s not an armored closet gay (like some conservative politicians who rail against their own rights while having secret liaisons in a train station bathroom).

Man, seeing all of these guys from Horrible Histories together doing other shit is really fucking with me ngl.
The Cap's interactions with Adam are always so adorable, I really think the Captain found his calling. Perhaps in another life he would have specialised in war documentaries.
Or wedding planning!
FANFIC WRITERS ASSEMBLE
Something I found fascinating with with the captain is they wrote him in an uncanny valley where no one (in the show's dialogue) has ever come out and said that he's gay but... come on we all know he SO IS!
Basically the captain to my knowledge is the only character I've ever seen that is a case of show don't tell for being gay (which is something we so absolutely more of because most show writers stupidly feel the need to shove in your face verbally that this character is gay or just queerbate and then just sweep the whole thing under the rug when no one's looking LEARN FROM GHOSTS WRITERS)
Because most shows are still too afraid to show gay characters hold hands or kiss compared to straight characters. If they do kiss, usually very shortly after there is a plot contrivense where one of them either seperates from the other, goes into a coma or dies because they don't want to show them being a couple as much as straight pairings.
@@caldw615 yes that's definitely still a problem but... I like to think shows like Ghosts and Netflix's Sex Education are are at least attempting to make a dent in that ridiculous trend
(like for real just let people have fictional gay characters and couples how fucking hard is it?)
@@pyromaniac2104 I've heard good things about the show Sex Education because I heard that it actually goes against the common tropes of a lot of TV high school dramas (US shows like Riverdale) and casts more realistic depictions of teenagers instead of the hyper attractive and ridiculously ripped 30 somethings you see in other shows. I've heard it's a lot more respectful and realistic in it's portrayal of LGBTQ characters so will likely check it out for myself later (only seen the first episode as my partner watches it but I may binge the rest if it's the anti-Riverdale)
Fully agree with this! And Sex Education is a brilliant watch - definitely binge it!
This this this!!! It makes me so happy that it's so OBVIOUS but they don't need to make him come out to show it. It's respectful and realistic to his era while simultaneously not queerbaiting. I truly thing the way Captain's sexuality is written in this show is so wonderful!
I love the lgbtq representation in this show
HELP THE WAY HIS WHOLE HEAD TURNS TO FOLLOW MIKE

Captain: " I know Fanny better than any of you!" 😂😂
Dude I don't even need to see it, that music CRUSHES my soul😭
He’s literally so precious we must protect him at all costs
I love how 'gay' is just tagged onto the end of the video's title 🤣
oh it's a joke about the expression "for x minutes straight" but reading it like that almost makes it funnier gjfkjgdksd
Wonderful … so subtle.
"almost certainly not"
BEST RESPONSE!!
I, a lesbian, will now be adopting that whenever my straight female friends try to protest that I don't understand and am being mean about their boyfriends
We all know captain is repressing when he does the gay cough
This is literally my favourite tv show, but somehow I’ve only just realised that caps is a closeted LGBT ❤️
HOW LMAO
HOW IN THE NINE CIRCLES OF HELL!!!
He's a lesbian gay bisexual transgender?
The Captain is just one of the best characters ever. I trust the writers very much, and I do hope they'll give him the perfect development because he deserves it 🥺💜
theory- kitty robin humphrey mary and thomas all saw cap write the letter to havers and knew his secret but didn’t tell anyone because they didn’t know how they would react
sub theory- if fanny knew cap was gay she wouldn’t make all those homophobic comments out of respect but since the others kept silent and she probably didn’t look as it wasn’t “ladylike” she never knew
i think alison knows too but she doesn't wanna pry coz she respects the captain so much, like a father she never really had (she asks his opinions) just the way she said "to buried secrets" and also the group thing "is there anything u want to share?"
Let’s be honest The captain literally carried this show!! Also he’s just so adorable!!! He must be protected at all costs
The brilliant thing here is that they could have over-done it, and made it into a massive pantomime, but they use it sparingly and just keep it as one aspect of the character and that makes it so much cooler.
yes, especially as an lgbtq+ person myself he is just so much more authentic and easier to relate to than many queer characters in media. like the way he subtly suggests but not suggests he is gay bc he can’t really come out, the feelings you can see on his face etc. is so accurate to me. and it’s not the fact that his sexuality isn’t talked about tbh, i like it when a character is openly lgbt, but the problem is that many openly lgbt characters just end up being stereotypes and that’s their whole personality. there’s a difference between a proud open queer character and a stereotypical, written
to appeal to straight people, queer character. sorry, bit of a rant but anyway (:
At least 4% of my brain is constantly singing Cap’s modern major general song
Havers leaving makes my bawl every damn time
I love these guys, so funny : )
Captain and Lady Button being the most morally tightly wound and also salivating at a bit of the male body being exposed is great. Especially compared with Mary the literal peasant being open about her desires.
Honestly that's historically accurate lol, the upper classes were repressed because they had to perform their high class status and etiquette, the lower classes had nothing to lose and didn't give a shit beyond the standard social norms of their time
your editing is so funny! especially during that little song he sang to wake alison up :D
Thank you so much! (Trust me that bit was such a nightmare to set up, took me forever😂)

how did youtube know i watch ghosts??? ive only watched it on tv and have never so much as commented about it on youtube. is it because im gay? is that the only reason youtube recommended it to me? suspicious
I have also asked the question “how did UA-cam know I was gay” many times and still haven’t found the answer….
Cookies. Plus everything listens to everything else, like your phone taking in audio even when it's not active.
You're basically always being tracked and profiled.
never heard of this show before but now i need to watch it
just binged season one with my mother :) !!
Even more in season 3!
I never realised there were so many hints that he's gay. It's so subtle in the UK version, unlike the US version where the equivalent character is just one gay stereotype after another.
The American one is shit. Genuinely shit not just me hating it bc it's an American knockoff. I think even Americans know its shit
Redding Weddy ep made me cry and I’ll admit it 😭😭😭
I love all these dudes, they’re literally my entire childhood. Any horrible history fans here…?
Hell yeahh
Dude i am just as obsessed with HH at 18 as i was when i was 4 lmfao
i’ve never seen this show but this man is now my favorite tv character lmaooo he is adorable i love himmm
watched one episode with my dad, he's homophobic and id forgotten how obviosly gay the captain is. now realising the first episode was not the episode i needed to worry about, there's much more very awkward moments to come... but also the amount of "ahhh thats gay im gay wooo validation" internal squeals i did watching this video
When Cap dances with the two guys at the end, I get so happy for him.
I love that he and Fanny are best friends; he's gay and her husband was gay and as a result cruel to her. But despite this they still get along. I don't know if she knows or suspects that he's gay but I hope that when it is addressed it helps them both with moving on and accepting.
Why is youtube recommending this to me only now, this is *perfection*
I just want him to say it. Like imagine that scene he's being all emotional when he tells them and they all look at him saying that they knew.
I imagine if that were to happen that would be one of those times where he as a ghost would be full filled enough to get sucked off... I mean move on
@@cyndymyers3510 getting sucked off is random that has been established
@@Cmor19 that is true I just feel the captain deserves a break through

I watched one minute of this video before pausing it and heading off to watch the whole show. Thankyou so much. This show is delightful and I demand a fifth series at once.
What makes this show great. Correct me if I'm wrong. The one that are playing as ghosts. They actually are writing strips & what's so cool is they bring there work together & make episodes. My my favorite episode was Pat thought he saw the light. He was saying all sorts of things. The other one the story of how the poet died LOL
I don't think that I had noticed his eyes moving to Adam when the actor says "Do you find yourself distracted..." How did I miss that??? I had to have been looking elsewhere.
