At first, I was hesitant towards the concept of the Crimson Flame. I thought it was lazy to create a red copy of the Emerald Flame and then give it all the same characteristics of what should be a unique existence in the universe. But the emotion explanation brought it all together for me. They aren’t two separate begins that happen to be very similar, they’re two facets of the same existence. This honestly opens up huge room for other Golden Age Green Lantern variants, like an Orange Lantern, who wields the Topaz Flame that embodies the Starheart’s desire for freedom, or a Yellow Lantern that wields the Amber Flame, which represents the Starheart’s fear that it will never be free. Personally, I think that the Golden Age Star Sapphire could easily slot into this new category of Lantern.

Topaz Flame would be interesting and maybe we could see it as pure freedom instead of pure greed as it's the avrice of wanting freedom that would attract the user and not an overwhelming parasitic desire for everything

Loved this series so much! I wish we could get an Alan Scott period piece movie or show.
My headcanon is that Alan Scott's costume has the Red in it because he was someone influenced by the Starheart connection to Vlad.

I didn’t actually consider the idea of Vlad killing Alan’s former lovers as a metaphor for Vlad’s attempts to suppress his own queerness. I still hate we never got to see the how those relationships with Alan played out, but Vlad’s actions here admittedly do a great job of giving subtle insight about his personal struggles as a spy and a queer man. Good catch there!

The last page showing the JSA really does highlight to me how this series has been showing why Alan would be so loyal to them. They are a group of people who will accept him no matter what. Jay offering to help investigate the murders when Alan speculated that because they were gay men no one would stand up for them. Even Spectre helping Alan come to terms with believing that what he felt was a sin, and stating that, as an agent of the divine it is not. It shows how the JSA is, when all else is said and done, a family. I know a lot have had issues with this series, but for me I've been enjoying it. It's a series that to me is about finding the courage the accept yourself. And also to accept that others will accept you.

I like this expansion of Starheart and it's connection to the Emotional Spectrum. It has such potential. I wonder if Geoff Johns always had this in mind for Alan when he first introduced the Spectrum and just never got around to exploring it bcuz of editorial. It would be cool to find out others flame colors escaped and sorcerors have been tapping into their power unknowingly throughout history and there are ancient rings or bands scattered across the planet collecting dust waiting to be discovered.
As you can see, im very intrigued

Honestly, I loved this series. The idea of a Golden Age Red Lantern is so cool and I really hope DC does more with it

I still really like my fan theory of the Crimson Flame having some sort of connection the dark magic from Ysmalt, when the Guardians were first trying to contain all the magic in the universe, but the explanation for all the various Flames from the Starheart is really cool and I’ll admit has far more creative potential than what I came up with. It’ll be interesting to see how other creatives use this new lore in Alan Scott stories and GL books moving forward.

I would love to see a lore separate from the GLC Starheart stuff. Always vague to me. I would also be on board for more Golden Age Lanterns. Some guy online did a photo manipulation of Alan as a new Indigo Lantern fan character. Hope DC takes a hint.

Seems like some theoretical set up of more Golden Age Lanterns of the other Star Heart emotions, which I would be curious to see how they all differ from one another.

@@FiggityJones I really wish they explain the Golden Age Star Sapphire with this explanation of Starheart. It's time for her comeback.

It's ironic that the issue is called "red scare" when this series relies on a red scare fueled evil stereotype portrayal of the soviet union. I love almost everything about this series, but that archaic depiction really is the biggest flaw in this story

I just wanted to ask: are you following the JSA story going on thats almost over, that sort of ties into this story? And will you be following the story that follows after that?
Also, love your channel, your videos, and your opinions, keep up the goos work.

Thank you! I am reading the current Justice Society book, and I'm really looking forward to the JSA book that's going to be replacing it. I'm planning to do a video all about Ruby, but I'm waiting for a few more issues to come out first.

So maybe I just need to reread what I have that covers this but I’ve never really felt like I understood exactly what the Starheart is or how it works with Alan’s family
I get the basics: it’s cosmic magic that the guardians locked away and it powers the Scott/Hayden/Rice’s (and maybe others?)
Where could I go to read the story of the Starheart & understand it in its full context?

Your best bet is probably to read the three issue miniseries "Green Lantern & Sentinel: Heart of Darkness".

I really liked this series until the halfway point. It just seemed kinda messy and rushed. The historical Easter eggs and beautiful that carried #1-3 just weren't there anymore.

Couldn't you also say that the Star Heart is drawing on the emotional spectrum when its emotions escape its confinement? It's more like a Lantern Corp power battery than anything else.
