Thank you for sharing your journey. I pray God leads you back to HIM! People and even some churches can fail us, don’t let them cause confusion. Best to you ❤

The existential crises that come with deconstructing your faith is tough, I went through it myself. However, the absolute liberation you feel is uncomparable

Applying to grad school now!! MS in Mental Health Counseling leading to LCPC. I love your videos and I plan on doing what you did: heading for private practice as soon as I get full credentials!

Yes! I've spent the last two years consuming negative therapist-therapist content that has made me question everything after the first grad program I applied to lost accreditation, it made me wonder if it was a sign to stop this path. I set out to look for positive info- did an anonymous survey that got well over 50 responses (the good is nice, but the bad is REAL bad so still had me on the fence), and then found your channel. It's a breath of fresh air, so thank you! I interviewed last weekend for another program, crossing my fingers.

As for my journey, I spent a decade as a photographer. 2020 really turned life upside down and I started to reimagine what I wanted my life to look like. I started my own therapy that year, and was inspired to pursue it. Went back to school in 2021, and just graduated last month summa cum laude with a bachelor of sci in psych and WGST cert!

@@allyssapowers I was waitlisted, so I suppose that's still a win! I'm reapplying for the Spring cycle immediately, which would actually work out better for me so fingers crossed!

I've been binging your videos because I've been thinking about going back to school to become a therapist for a long time now. I actually already have a master's degree in urban and regional planning and am currently working in a government job related to my field. It's okay, but I struggle waking up everyday and not feeling like I'm really helping people or doing something meaningful. My desire has always been to help people live better lives, it's why I got my master's degree in planning in the first place. But there aren't as many opportunities to make an impact as I thought there would be. Luckily, I had an assistantship that got my grad school paid for so no money or time wasted. I learned a lot too, including that I am not cut out to be a regulator. Anyway that's my journey so far. We'll see if I actually take the leap.

My goodness do I relate to this. Even down to the location- raised catholic from Cleveland and went to BW and was an education major, dropped it senior year because also realized I did not have the personality to manage a classroom and was miserable and drained from it. Got my bachelors in English in 2017 and have been floundering for years. Had a traumatic year and got into therapy this year, realized that this is my calling, and am now in the process of trying to figure out how to eventually get there. Right now I’m interviewing to teach at a Montessori school and am trying this path, but just feel like it’s ultimately a part of my journey to becoming a clinician at some point once I’m through more of my own inner work and willing to figure out the financial situation to getting into grad school. Just wanted to say I hear you and appreciate you and feel less alone in the world now lol. Wish you the best.

I started two separate masters before finally finding my way into a MA in Counseling at the age of 25. Being lost has been a painful growth experience but knowing we are not alone on the journey is hugely beneficial. Life is a journey, the journey goes on and on and on. We will always be on some kind of journey.

I am currently a teacher (going into year 7) but since I was 13 I knew I wanted to be a therapist. I fell into teaching for, ironically, financial reasons. I work with at-risk youth, so it is a rewarding job. But I am looking for something more flexible, possibly remote, and that pays better. These videos are helping me a ton and I just found you. Thank you so much for sharing your story!

Hi Allyssa! You were my counselor back in 2018 and I just wanted to thank you for the impact you had on me during one of the most stressful times in my life. You were a fantastic back then and I'm sure you're even better now! Hopefully this doesn't come off as creepy or stalkery(?) 😬. I just wanted to let you know that even 6 years later I still think back on our sessions when times are hard 💜

Did I miss this in the video lol but did you do MA in counseling or MSW? I was made to understand you couldn’t have your own private practice if you had a MA in counseling? Thank you for this video!
