"I just always feel safer when Gandalf is around." That is exactly what you should feel. Gandalf wears the Ring of Fire, one of the three Elven rings. Its effect when used is to boost morale and confidence.
I wish Jackson, Bowens and Walsh could have included that..and the backstory of his wife dying when giving birth to Faramir. Nonetheless, all the other choices made were still excellent and true to the essence of the story.
The series deserved the accolades. Greatest video interpretation of one of the best stories every written, so great that it infected almost every fantasy writer to this day. Effects that hold up, acting, etc. etc.
The 'eye thing' I can only guess is Gandalf the Grey's death was the end result of Pippin's actions. While Gandalf lost much of his memory after he leveled up, it is implied he did retain some inkling of his previous life. Therefore each dealing with Pippen put's him into alert mode. :P
In a way, they are not three movies but all one movie, especially now that the audience doesn't have to wait a year between episodes. That makes for a unique experience.
Rather like the books. Tolkien himself wanted it published as one volume but the publisher saw more value in splitting it into three books. Now, of course, you can get a large single volume hardcover, but not originally.
Well done again so far. The tension builds beautifully and the best is yet to come. How about John Noble as the steward Denethor, outstanding in a whole cast of outstanding performances. Bring it on, lovely Liala.
Saruman never died in this way or this soon in the books so I understand why Peter originally had to cut it, (the original story showed in Galadriel’s ‘mirror’ which was the Scouring Of The Shire). Back in those days he and the team were closely communicating with we the fans haha ❤
❤❤❤ pt 1, The beginning of the end. Sad this time has come, glad for you to get the experience. Mellow Greetings to my favorite dark haired reactor. I am enjoying the Marcia Brady straight 70s hair. So much happening on three fronts here. Loads to get through before we get our ending. Bravo, Mr Jackson. None have done this better.
I think the reason Jackson's changes work so well is because you never get the impression he's saying "I know better than Tolkien, I'm a better writer than Tolkien." He's just adapting the works for a medium Tolkien never intended, and doing it as best he can.
Glad there will be 3 parts to this! i will wait until all parts are out but just wanted to say hi and that im excited for your reaction to the last one!
a minute after it was discovered, the ring caused a murder! imagine what would have happened if it had returned to sauron!! (and "may precious" has become almost as iconic a phrase as "- I am your father!").
20:01 I remember seeing the Witch King scene in the cinema and it was a truly terrifying and disheartening moment, there seemed to be no hope, I mean, how do you fight against it?
I haven’t read all the comments so maybe someone has already said this. Eowyn’s dream of a huge wave was actually a recurring dream of Tolkien’s until he gave it to Faramir in the books. Then it just stopped. But many years later Tolkien discovered that his youngest son Michael had the same dream also. Weird, huh?
Yes, you will cry. But "I will not say do not weep. For not all tears are an evil." Be prepared for an amazing next two parts. It breaks us all, but in the best way possible!
Tolkien stated it’s not a fantasy and eh at genre only came about when taking inspiration from his works to revive and rekindle ancient knowledge and ancient languages. The fantasy genre came after. But yes. LOTR is amazing. Check out all 25 of Tolkien’s books! ❤
In the books, Frodo was the eldest hobbit member of the Fellowship, and Pippin was the youngest. In the movies, Elijah Wood was the youngest of the hobbit actors in the Fellowship, and Billy Boyd was the eldest.
Just to say, since most people tend to think the hobbits are all children: Frodo was 51, Samwise was 39, Merry was 37 and Pippin was 29. They were still young but not kids. Not talking about the actors. Hobbits seem to live longer, though Bilbo was the oldest. He looked much younger than he was thanks to the ring giving him an unnaturally long life.
Fun fact: turns out the pig orc you see in this movie is based on Harvey Weinstein Whom Peter Jackson really really hated. He’s the producer that got locked for sexual assault and everything
He wanted to put all of the book in one movie. Can you imagine?? When he was out Jackson even lobbied for 2 movies thinking that's the most he will get.
Hi Liala So happy to see you , you look Beautiful❤And love your reaction to LOTR part one understand your reaction is part 2 and part 3 until Saturday and Monday Can we to enjoy the rest of your reaction and I hope you're prepared for the middle of the movie cause there's a bug you don't I know you could be bcause there is also going to be so much tears😢. The Lighting of the Beacons is wonderful cinema, but it is totally impractical. Who is going to live his life on top of a mountain, waiting to light a beacon at some future time? And half the time, the beacons would be covered by clouds. Tolkien was more practical. In the book the beacons were not set on mountain tops, but rather on foothills adjoining the road between Edoras and Minas Tirith. The beacons were manned by men who ran the post stations used by message-riders between the two kingdoms. A second chain of beacons ran along the southern flank on the White Mountains (Ered Nimrais) to alert the southern fiefs.
In the movies the Beacons were not designed to be a call for Rohan. They were mostly located on the other side of the White Mountains because they were meant to be seen by Gondor's vassals (Dol Amroth, Lossarnach, Pinnath Gelin etc...). In order to call for Rohan's help,a rider (Hirgon in this case) was instructed to deliver the Red Arrow to the King of Rohan (Theoden)
Fun little tidbit they leave out of the movie. Denethor also had a Palantir like Saruman did. Instead of turning him completely to the side of Sauron like it did Saruman, it basically just led him into despair because he saw no path to victory for Men. So yeah, he's kinda a d-bag... But he was actually a fairly honorable man before Sauron was able to poison him with visions from the Palantir. He was stronger than Saruman at least and Saruman is a literal Angel sent to fight Sauron and he joined him instead. So... So much for the "weakness" of Men.
Nope. He never gave into Sauron neither of them. Denethor especially. Here’s why - Denethor was done dirty: He was way more noble & mighty in the books. Not to mention he contended wills with Sauron for decades nonstop & ontop of that even now he was never broken nor could Sauron alter what Denethor would see in the palantir even then he couldn’t control what Denethor had control of which was how he CHOSE to INTERPRET the visions given to him. Using it all to Gondor’s advantage! ❤ he also lit the beacons and got the women & children far away from the city longer ahead of time. So the movie butchered him as well as faramir but they didn’t butcher faramir as badly thankfully. He could have been shown to give Pippen his newest order to light the beacons so then it wouldn’t change the scene much at all as presented! The story here is Faramir’s birth ended up killing his mother Finduilas(named after an elvish princess from the era of Children Of Hùrin was set in);she was a Numenorean woman of the Faithful which her ancestors survived the Cataclysm of Númenor by the way! He was hurt deeply by her death and ontop of that Faramir had the likeness both in temperament as well as his appearance/bearing so he ways reminded of his wife over and over again by Faramir who was just like her, and all it took was a simple look or what-have-you to drive the knife in deeper into his heart about his wife. But also Aragorn when he went by the name gifted to him as Thorongil Denethor’s father basically overshadowing him from his own father so he is as psychology goes: treated Boromir the same way his father treated Aragorn/Thorongil. Note that Boromir and Faramir are half Númenorean which is a big thing as far as the legendarium goes! And it’s something to note that he treated Boromir like his father treated the clandestine Aragorn as Thorongil. Denethor actually did many things the movie shows him not doing or neglecting. He was VERY competent and mighty in many craft and (even a lore-master to a degree). He had quite alot of mental and “magical” might which is why he could contend with Sauron too without being harmed in there process in any way!
Saruman was always out for his own and hated Sauron the most. The “Long Defeat” is what caused Saruman to become more desperate. Also ontop of benign cooped up in this mortal coil when he was always one of the Ainur, a Maia. So he felt like he had chains of limitation put upon him ontop of magic bleeding from our world. Middle Earth is Arda and Arda is our Midgard. 😊❤
This all plays into the first song of the Ainur at the first Ainulindalë. A second and third theme will be introduced that transcends The marred Arda and the original intention combined. ❤😊
The 7 Palantir was created by Fëanor and presumable his two eldest of 7 sons. Such as Maedhros and Maglor(future step fathers of Elrond and Elros). They lead everyone to the wrong conclusion. Which is the true hero of the story. Sauron got a glimpse of pippin and drew the wrong conclusion which lead to other things which caused more dominos to fall against his favour.
@@Makkaru112 In the published essay on the palantíri, Tolkien wrote: "He [Denethor] must have guessed that the Ithil-stone [Sauron's palantír] was in evil hands, and risked contact with it, trusting his strength. His trust was not entirely unjustified. Sauron failed to dominate him and could only influence him by deceits. Saruman fell under the domination of Sauron... [while] Denethor remained steadfast in his rejection of Sauron, but was made to believe that his defeat was inevitable, and so fell into despair." We're basically saying the same thing. Sauron was able to drive Denethor into despair with the visions he gave or implications thereof from the Palantiri.
The Lord of the Rings are good trilogy but The Hobbit trilogy should have been started first to get the chronological order of going on in Lord of the Rings
No, it's better this way. Not chronologically. Not with the books, it's better to start with The Hobbit and work through The Lord of the Rings. But the movies are made in such a way that it sounds better to see LOTR, then Hobbit. The Hobbit works a lot with some of the movie themes, and the very beginning and very end of the Hobbit follows the LOTR movie. People often think that every story needs to be seen chronologically, but it's not. For example, Star Wars is much better in the order it was filmed, i.e. start with the "old" trilogy, 4, 5 and 6. Then the new trilogy, then all the other movies. This is also true of some of the books, for example the whole Asimov's Foundation (the book, not the failed series that has nothing to do with it except the character names and locations). There are the "Prelude to the Foundation" and "Forward the Foundation" books. And both of those books should be read at the end, after one has read all the other books in chronological order. But if he reads the two named ones first, he will be spoiled for a great many surprises and unexpected twists.
"I just always feel safer when Gandalf is around." That is exactly what you should feel. Gandalf wears the Ring of Fire, one of the three Elven rings. Its effect when used is to boost morale and confidence.
16:32 What is not shown in the film is that Denethor has been using a Palantir of his own and contending with the will of Sauron has driven him mad.
I wish Jackson, Bowens and Walsh could have included that..and the backstory of his wife dying when giving birth to Faramir. Nonetheless, all the other choices made were still excellent and true to the essence of the story.
The score is magnificent in all three movies, but the lighting of the beacons is the best. Chills.
The Beacons, Ents marching to war, Barad Dur falling, the bridge of Khazad Dhum, Charge of the Rohirrim ... The music score is just biblical
The series deserved the accolades. Greatest video interpretation of one of the best stories every written, so great that it infected almost every fantasy writer to this day. Effects that hold up, acting, etc. etc.

Peter Jackson changed many things from the book and he stayed true to Tolkien. It worked to perfection.

Btw the “time of the orc has come” orc was modeled on Harvey Weinstein.
Funny thing about calling pippin a child. He’s older than most adult men lol.
