      in something a little more lighthearted like Disney-Pixar's " Brave " .

    That "is he...smart or.." scene always kills me because it shows self-awareness, worry, compassion, doubt and love all at the same time. Hanks absolutely nailed the delivery and physicality of that moment.

      @smittybenzo4693 Рік тому +16

      I always wonder how Mr. Hanks got to that moment of executing that delivery. It doesn't feel like he just turned that on after hearing "action". He embodied Forrest with a display of emotion that only a human actually living that moment out can portray. It is in my opinion, one of the most moving moments in cinema.

Many traumas can drive good people to do bad things.

    Your reaction to this classic movie was a joy to watch, Liala! Glad that you heeded the advice from me and other fans, and equipped yourself well for this highly emotional story.
    I was especially relieved at your assessment of Jenny. I've seen so many reactors give her a hard time, and I don't think she deserves that at all. Objectively, her treatment of Forrest is atrocious, but it never comes from a place of malice. Rather, Jenny's confused and suffering from the trauma of horrific childhood abuse; it takes her years to process that, and all without the benefit of professional help. She engages in multiple self-destructive behaviours to numb the pain, and it's quite possible that she even sees herself as unsafe for nice people to be around. In that sense, Jenny might very well be trying to protect Forrest, as you said.
    Looking forward to your next one!

    • @honkhonk5181
      @honkhonk5181 Рік тому

      Fine, but are we going to ignore the fact that she literally r@p3d him to get that baby?
      A) Forest didn’t understand s3x and thus could not have consented. (A b0ner does NOT automatically mean consent.)
      B) She broke into his house, s3xu@lly assaulted him, then left once she had his seed planted.
      So I guess it’s A okay just because it’s a man getting rap3d instead of a w0m@n? Get the fu/ck out of here. Swap the genders and everyone would have gone completely bananas over that scene.

    Great reaction! From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book), Forrest Gump is the story of a generation. It is the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions with which we wrestled. This movie is also used in some American History classes to teach the timeline of events that occurred over the course of the generation. Some events are easy to recognize and others, like the opening of China, the American bicentennial, or the running craze that started in the late 70s are more obscure. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

    In case nobody let you know, OCS is Officer Candidate School. Enlisted soldiers can have a chance to become an officer.
    Jenny didn't know Forrest sent the letters. She didn't live there, anymore and nobody lived in that house. That's why they were returned.

    Thank you for your wonderful reaction to one of the truly great films. Your heartfelt emotion at the end of the film was so touching. I was delighted that you hadn't joined some of the many Jenny haters, that have displayed their lack of empathy for a woman who had suffered terrible physical and mental trauma at the hands of her father. Your sympathy and understanding for Jenny shows what a kind and thoughtful person you must be. ❤🙏

    I really enjoy your reactions a lot! 👍🏻
    A few points: First of, not many get, why Jenny always leaves Forrest. You exactly nailed it. She was just protecting him, bcs she saw herself as a threat to people.
    Second, I think this movie was the only one I ever got a life lesson from. I still try to remember myself from time to time, not to overthink everything. Makes some things a lot easier...
    Third point is, don't ever feel sorry, for asking things you don't know. There is a saying: "A real wise man always has more questions than answers!" 🤓
    Keep yourself, you have a good heart! That's easy to see! All the best from germany! ✌🏻
    Addendum: One small request, which probably means a lot of work for you, which I would really appreciate! 😅 There is another movie, a funny one, also with a strong message, that no one ever reacted to. It went under the radar, when it came out, but you can trust me, it's worth a reaction. It's call "Accepted". If you could do that, I would be very happy! At least watch it on your own sometimes. Has a great soundtrack, some cool characters in it and an important message, about doing the things... I don't wanna a spoil it! 🤷🏼‍♂️😉

    OCS stands for Officer Candidate School. Upon completion of the course, a person is made a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Currently OCS is a 12 week course but during the Vietnam War era, it was 23 weeks. Of course, in the film, Forest does not attend OCS.

    I was trying to think one time what Forest’s secret was. I know it’s kind of a simple answer, but I think it’s just that he’s always present. That allows him to follow his heart and not get caught up in all the drama we create.

    OCS is Officer Candidate School and the toughest men I ever met (outside my family) were Marine Corps Drill Instructors. I overheard two talking once in boot camp and one was going to OCS and the other was commiserating with him because it was going to be so tough. Blew me away that these Supermen were intimidated by it.

    A bit late since this posted, but I just saw this now. Anyhow, as some others have pointed out, you are one of the very few who actually got Jenny. Like really, truly got her. Some have said more or less, "yeah, I get that she didn't have the best childhood, but....."
    They seem to miss, don't realize, or ignore the foundation of her issues. While not all abuse victims turn out like Jenny, the #1 reason why people who did turn out like Jenny turned out that way because of it. Prior to having children I'd always heard that the father is a girls first and most important relationship she'll ever have. I never knew how true that was until my daughter was born. She's just about 13 now and every day I see and experience things with my daughter, be it through conversation, interactions and even punishment, that reinforce the most simple of truths in fatherhood. My relationship with my daughter is quite literally the Beta version of every relationship she will ever have with a man.
