The book was good and it is worth reading just for its ending but Kristin Hannah saw herself in Kate and the writing was not objective at all. It was all about Kate and how she would get her catharsis in the end. Personally, I was tired with Kate's whining and her jealousy and her hidden animosity towards her best friend. They were exhausting. I just wanted for once to take her friend and have a normal conversation with her about the things that she was annoyed. Instead, she made me feel that she liked to play the victim and humiliate Tully in every chance that she got. I absolutely loved Tully, such an intense and a complex character and such a broken soul and she loved Kate with all her heart and she was, by far more sensitive than Kate, and even though it seemed otherwise. And Johnny was a total loser who waited for his wife to die just to reassure her that she was the One, not to mention his pathetic comment to Tully that she never knew how to follow his steps and it blows my mind how there are people who actually believe that there was this big love story between Kate and Johhny. This was not a love story. This was a parody. And I hated it how Tully was destroyed and she lost everything that she worked her ass off. And yes, love and family come first, well at least according to the author, but dynamic characters with high professional aspirations like Tully Hart should NOT be portrayed as vain, shallow, selfish but as individuals who have chosen a different path of happiness from what society often suggests. The show was so much better and it did a much better job by presenting the characters equally. And Katherine Heigl is crushing Tully's role. She was born to play that role. She is phenomenal.
"Johnny was a total loser" LOL I wasn't the biggest fan of Johnny either. I hope you like the Netflix series of Firefly Lane though, I think it's really good!
Why the readers are always so against Tully?! I mean, the girl was screwed since she was a kid, she was taught that an apology makes you nothing but useless, she had the worst time of her life because she was desperately looking for love, and of course she didn't have boundaries because there was no one next to her to teach her those boundaries in the first place, and of course she would be self centered, this was the only way to survive..And then the writing was so against her and always favored Katie by presenting her as the victim..I mean tragedy hit Kate's door and the writer sent Tully in a businness trip..And then when she came back, only half of the message existed because there was a blackout?! And why Johnny and Mrs M didn't call her to tell her what was going on..?! Tully would have dropped everything in a second, even her trip in Antarctica..And I don't think that Tully was going againts Kate's back..More like she wanted to help but her ways were wrong because she was never a mother and she was never a daughter..These roles never existed in her life..And don't get me started on ''the betrayal..'' Unintentional, she hurt her friend because she was afraid that her bestie was going to kill herself..I feel so bad for Tully..And in the end, everything was fucked up for her..Again..

That's all solid points... I do prefer Kate but I by no means am against Tully. Like you said, she went through so much and my heart did break for her
