    Jamaican black castor oil is merely a form of branding. Castor oil can be a light colour, when prepared in the traditional Caribbean way. It is thick, and the colour depends on how high a heat is used to cook the castor seeds.
    My Gran, bless her soul made castor oil that looks as golden as honey, and its thick as the JB one. The other more liquid and deodorised versions are hella processed.
    In making castor oil traditionally the beans are roasted, pounded to mash with a large mortar and pestle and the mash is cooked on heat to extract the oils. The higher the heat darker the colour. We've always used it to thicken hair and increase growth, and we, are in one of the many islands which isn't Jamaica. So the name "JBCO" isn't necessary. You just need the oil to be unrefined, and traditionally made to get the thicker consistency.

    I also use plain castor oil to do my hot oil treatments. JBC is indeed too expensive for me to buy.

    Jbco is not pure. The lighter the castor oil the more pure and benifical.

      JBCO is pure. The difference is it's roasted.

    Good video. I like the idea of using the plain castor oil for prepoo purposes and using jbco for my leave in oil. More cost effective...

    I love the JBCO leave-in by Shea Moisture. That leave-in is *so* moisturizing. I don't use castor oil on its own, just baby oil (which is equally as thick but probably not as good). I use the baby oil in my rinse-out oil treatment. That means, I shampoo, then I condition for the first time, rinse it out, then I put about 10 drops of baby oil on the last 4 inches of my hair, then put my second conditioner on over it, and rinse after a few minutes. I think I might try JBCO or castor oil for this once my baby oil runs out! Thanks for doing this video, it's very informative!

    Jbco is not a product I’ll use due to I grew up seeing my grandma using and making her own castor oil from the bean, mind you she died at 97 and her hair was a little more under her hips

    I was using regular castor oil for 2 months on my hair and eyebrows with results, but when I transitioned to black my eyebrow hairs started falling out like crazy. Does anyone know why this is?

    • @carolsterling4953
      @carolsterling4953 5 років тому +2

      Jbco could be too concentrated for the eyebrows. Maybe dilute it with another oil that is lighter in consistency. Good luck. X

    • @cherieg2143

      Apparently jbco is alkaline due to the ash content. So it causes more friction in hair thus frizz and breakage.

      It would however I don't think I would use castor oil on fine hair..it's a heavy oil. If you do I'd mix it with a lighter oil such as sweet almond or even grapeseed oil.
