Leonard Cohen said in an interview that when he heard this cover, it brought tears to his eyes. That tells you just how powerful it is, when the creator of this song is brought to tears by your cover.

Well, I can't tell you EVERYTHING about Kirstin, because I don't know it all. I can tell you this much:
Kirstin (also called Kirstie) is from Arlington, Texas, as are Mitch and Scott. She met Mitch in community children's musical theater when she was about 8 or so, and they became good friends. She met Scott when they were both 14 and found themselves in the same class in high school. Scott already knew Mitch; he'd also met him in community children's musical theater at about the same time as Kirstie (and I've no idea how Kirstie and Scott missed meeting each other at the same time as they met Mitch). Kirstie and Scott were a year ahead of Mitch in high school, but they were all choir geeks (big surprise there) and quickly became best friends. They formed a trio, not so imaginatively named "The Trio," which frequently performed at school functions and occasionally on local television.
Kirstie and Scott both graduated in 2010 and went off to college for one year; Kirstie had a full ride scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. And when Scott got his big idea about The Trio auditioning for _The Sing-Off_ and attempting to win a recording contract so they could keep The Trio together forever, Kirstie was all in and helped to convince Mitch.
Because _The Sing-Off_ reguired bands to have at least five members The Trio added Avi and Kevin and changed their name to Pentatonix, but pentaholics still refer to Kirstie, Mitch, and Scott as "the trio."
This isn't the place for the full story of their season on _The Sing-Off,_ or their struggles after the record company dropped that first contract they'd won on _The Sing-Off;_ I'm trying to stick with Kirstie here.
Originally Kirstie was considered a mezzo soprano, mezzo being the lowest soprano range, just above alto, but at this point she sings anywhere from a low alto range through coloratura soprano, the highest soprano range. And she has fantastic whistle notes on top of that. Lately Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an alto soprano.
Kirstie gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Elliana Violet, on June 28, 2022, at the age of 30. She is currently engaged to Elliana's father, Ben Hausdorff, who is Pentatonix's videographer. And she seems to be fond of playing practical jokes on the other members of Pentatonix.
You can find her personal UA-cam channel here: youtube.com/@KirstinMaldonadoOfficial
To hear Kirstie belting out the high notes I recommend Pentatonix's cover of "Seasons of Love," preferably the live Fourth of July performance.

As has been mentioned to you, the bass here, Avi Kaplan, left the group in September 2017 for various personal reasons, and in 2019 was able to establish his solo career. 4 EP's, an 11-song all-original album, and 2 European and 2 US/Canada tour later, he's back in the studio recording a new album. I'm going to recommend you react to these 2 videos of his. "Change on the Rise" was the first song he was allowed to release in March 2017 (contractual non-competition clause in his release from the group), and it launched his solo career. As with 90% of what he puts out, "Change" is an original and he sings all the parts and makes all the sounds, aside from some organ and tambourine in the bridge. It's a rousing call-to-action, and many fans regularly use it as a motivator. For my second recommendation, we fast forward to 2022 and his original "All Is Well", filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands while he was on his 2022 European tour. In some ways, it's a polar opposite to "Change", and you'll hear what I mean by that. It's just him, his guitar, and the awesome acoustics and natural reverb of the building. Do check them both.

Leonard Cohen wrote HALLELUJAH and after watching PTX'S version he said that this was the Best version he had heard.
If you want to see Kevin's arraignment style check out "O Come All Ye Faithfull" and see what he creates. He is much more than just a Beatboxer since he can play the Cello and beatbox at the same time.
He also graduated from Yale University-- Pre-med if he ever wants to go into health care like his parents. He speaks fluent Mandarin and has a wife, and baby girl along with a podcast. He observes the Sabbath so PTX never schedule anything that would interfere.
They live online, from the early years with Mitch and Scott's Superfruit to Kevin's traditional African wedding to Matt's wedding last January to Scott's in July. Kirstin shows off her 14 month baby along with her engagement to Ben.
If you react to PTX, the Pentaholics will find you and guide you through this large rabbit hole.

Loved your reaction when Mitch started singing. Hallelujah was my intro to PTX and I immediately became a Pentaholic. They are all insanely talented but Mitch has the voice of an angel & sings directly to my soul. The Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Amazing Grace and Daft Punk Medley should all be checked out.

Avi Kaplan, former bass for PTX, (beanie and beard) has a solo career now. Not just another pretty bass, he has a 5 octave range that he uses beautifully. Change on the Rise, I'm Only Getting Started or All is Well 7 layer sessions. Every singer in this group is tremendously talented but together they are magic. Subscribed for PTX and Avi who has his own following. Looking forward to seeing both.😅

Did you notice that during Mitch's segment, the higher into countertenor he got, the deeper Avi got into the bass in a sort of contrasting and counterbalncing?

You may have something there about the "Hallelujah moments" . Leonard Cohen wrote some 70+ verses to this song, so maybe he was highlighting many of those moments in each verse.
Nice to see you back exploring more Pentatonix. I hope you do more of their stuff. The group does more than just covers, they have quite a few originals as well: Coffee In Bed, Run To You, Be My Eyes, Sing, Love Again, Happy Now for a start.

It was such a joy to find you, I subscribed in the hope that you will continue with Pentatonix. There’s a lot to discover. For more of these big anthems, try Can You Feel the Love Tonight and The Prayer. For versatility, try their Daft Punk medley (first Grammy) and Bohemian Rhapsody. For more emotion, try Mad World and Say Something. For fun, check out Come Along and Making Christmas. For originals, try Sing, Coffee in Bed and their brand-new I Rise. O Come All Ye Faithful is a new take on a. Christmas classic, and Gold shows what can be done with five people sitting around singing. I liked your description of the strength of the individual voices and the power of the combined voices. I enjoyed your reaction very much! Peace from Ohio …

Kevin is their electrifying beat-boxer. He does quite a bit more than stomping and beating his chest in the group. But I realize that that's all that you saw him doing in this song. He's also a master cellist who has performed at world reknown venues. And, he plays the saxophone and piano. Many of their other songs display his talent more vividly. And last but not least, he's a pre-med graduate from Yale University who made the decision to forego his acceptance into their medical school to do what he loved most - music. He also speaks three languages fluently. He was quite the prize for Pentatonix when they discovered him on UA-cam some years back.

You are the first person I have ever heard talk about "hallelujah moments." So true. The song is not a mournful dirge -- that's what Jeff Buckley's veraion feels like to me. I believe John Cale and kd lang and now Pentatonix capture the more anthemic quality. It is all about life - not just loss.

This was recorded individually, produced and lip synched for the video. Check their live performances, they’re pretty stunning. Basso profundo Avi Kaplan left to pursue a solo career after six years. Their late 2022 concert at the Hollywood Bowl has the best sound quality for my taste and you can hear that Matt Sallee has a fine basso if not profundo.

This world is full of conflicts and full of things that cannot be reconciled. But there are moments when we can reconcile and embrace the whole mess, and that's what I mean by 'Hallelujah.'
-Leonard Cohen (from the Hallelujah Wikipedia page)
Although the verses that are usually performed mostly explore only the halleluiahs of spiritual and carnal love, he wrote dozens of other verses exploring the many halleluiahs of life.

I first heard about Leonard Cohen in the 60s, when Judy Collins recorded "Suzanne" and started introducing him to a US audience. Then a Canadian dormmate recommended Cohen's solo recordings. "Hallelujah" came out in 1984 and was not immediately successful. As primarily a poet and tune maker, Cohen was dependent on his backup musicians to flesh out his songs, and his initial recording wasn't that good an arrangement. It wasn't until other musicians did amazing covers that the song started taking off. After years of retreat, towards the end of his life Cohen did a series of world tours, performing his music to large, adoring crowds with a stellar backup band. The July 17, 2008 London performance was released as "Live in London" on CD and DVD and his performance of "Hallelujah" that night was amazing. -- ua-cam.com/video/YrLk4vdY28Q/v-deo.html
