Good overview of the hike and to each their own I guess but hiking with that many people looks miserable lol. I’ve been to San Jacinto peak a few times via various routes and have been blessed to be alone at the peak every single time (mid-week, start early). Going through LRV in the snow is pretty amazing for serenity and isolation. Also highly recommend going down from the peak via Wellman’s divide through Strawberry camp, the views that way are spectacular (Deer Springs Loop aka San Jacinto peak loop)

I did this on the 11th. I did not realize you needed a pass for parking. I just filled out the form at the ranger station and parked just below the gate on the road at the trailhead. My car was still there so I guess I got lucky, ha! Good video. Nice and cool when I went so very enjoyable. Cheers.

The parking permit costs $5 a day but if you get a parking ticket from ranger that will cost you $5 so some people just gamble that they won't get caught instead of paying the $5 up front, a lot of people that hike at these places buy the adventure pass from REI that is good for a full year. Thank you for watching and stay safe on the hiking trails.

Hydrate before you hike. If you are not peeing by 10:00 AM, then you are dehydrated. Carry more water than you need. And don't forget high energy snacks like nuts, M&Ms, raisins, etc. (GORP). AVOID alcoholic beverages as they will dehydrate you. Also, you may want to consider buying a USGS map at REI, a good compass and know how to use them. Good map orientation skills will help you from getting lost. Several people get lost every year and need to get rescued. If you do get lost, then stop and try to get your bearings. And never wander off of a trail. Most of all, let someone know where you are hiking and what time you are expected back.

Great job! YES, you were sooooo close, I'm surprised you didn't ask someone how much further to the summit. I feel your pain, many years ago, hiking to Iron Mountain I turned around when I was very close, later when I found out how close I was I made a trip back to Iron Mountain the following week to finish that hike. Thank you for watching and keep on hiking.
