  • Find out how plungers of virtual pins work in this episode because I restore and install the original plunger. The very first feedback devices go into the cabinet as well: the flashers and strobes. These flashing lights are synchronized to events in-game and provide an amazing light show!

    Wow, just wow. Sooooo many electronic components.....I thought of building one, but daaaaaaaammmmnnnn.....

      Don't be too impressed! I chose to go for an all-out full-option build, but you can start as small and simple as you like

    Today I just happened to think to myself, I would like to build a pinball machine, I wonder how to go about it. Then I come across these videos. It looks great! I have learned a lot and now really want to make my own!

      Awesome to hear that! I was hoping my videos could inspire people. Make sure to take a look at the Pinscape Build Guide, it has everything you need to know!

    So good. What I really like about this build is the use of old, original pinball hardware. Awesome stuff!

      I tried to make it look like a real pinball as much as I could. That's what often bothers me in other builds :)

    Hi, great video. Can you please tell me the specs of the potentiometer?

    Nice video. Although at 5:20 you say: "a red, a green and a blue one, and ofcourse ground."
    In reality, the ´ground´ is connected to the +3,3 V of the 2nd power module. The colour LED´s get pulled down to ground bij the FET´s on the Main Board to light up.

    • @overtinker.projects
      @overtinker.projects  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes you're right, this one slipped through, but it's indeed the ground side that gets connected for each color, while the common wire is the supplied voltage. I don't remember exactly what voltage they run on but it gets stepped down by the big resistors

    Protip: add a "ding" or other audible indicator when the flashing is over :)
    Cool build!

      Good idea, I was trying to be more careful with all the flashing, but a ding might be a good extra

    I'm glad you're doing it, because I wouldn't have the patience. I'd go tilt in no time, lol. Very cool project!

    What you just did I'm going to be doing. Where did you get those domes? And the thingverse link to print. Amazing.

      I ordered the flasher domes from a local pinball shop. I think the 3D print to mount the LEDs on came from the Pinscape Build Guide. Good luck building!

    Love this build. And the tutorials. Did you angle the Dmd screen panel back slightly like stern machines? I think they do that to avoid reflection on the playfield. Just designing my own and was curious if you did this. Thanks!

    • @overtinker.projects
      @overtinker.projects  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! I didn't angle it, it sits straight. I never really have any issue with reflection on the playfield glass, but maybe that's due to the glass being more flat than 90s or modern pins since it's an EM cabinet

      @@overtinker.projects Cool. You're still beating me - I've been building a fruit machine from scratch since 2006 and every time I get near to finishing I start all over again 😂

    • @overtinker.projects
      @overtinker.projects  11 місяців тому +1

      @chriswoods562 that sounds relatable. It is really hard to actually finish something. I think I did almost all the work in about a year and then spent another year doing the finishing touches

    Groovy idea using a slide potentiometer to simulate the plunger! I know it's been more than five months since this video came out, but I have a related question about the plunger - there's an uncommon technique where someone just palms the plunger to get a certain near minimal force on the ball (only possible because of the spring on the knob side) rather than pull the plunger back and release, did you end up also accounting for that (either with the single long pot or with a second pot for the knob-side translated to weaker values) or did you ultimately ignore that (possibly because you didn't realize that was a technique)?

    • @overtinker.projects
      @overtinker.projects  5 місяців тому +1

      Good question, I know that the Pinscape software has a setting that simulates a launch button instead of a plunger when you press the plunger in instead of pulling it. I don't know how much that interferes with softly hitting the plunger to try and get a soft plunge

    • @apollolux
      @apollolux 5 місяців тому

      @@overtinker.projects That's groovy that there's an extra input for an intentional press in, but understandable if it would ultimately be too annoying or complex on the code side to try to distinguish between a soft plunge and a press. It's been years since I myself touched Visual Pinball (IIRC it was at version 9 or 10) with VPinMAME and don't remember if it had that feature back then, but I also didn't have any knowledge of electronics back then either. Also, I was pretty much satisfied with just having a quality Addams Family Pinball setup running, virtual or not. :)

      I love all VPWorkshop releases, so I try to play most of them when they come out. All time favorites are a bit hard, but I love Medieval Madness, Batman 66, Lord of the Rings, TNA, Whitewater, ... The list goes on 😁

    Господь всемогущий, дай этому талантливому человеку полезную для него и для всех людей идею!
    Дай ему идею о том, что он может делать и успешно продавать, небольшие настольные контроллеры для игры в пинбол!
    Это должна быть небольшая коробка с плунжером и кнопками управления флиперами. В этой коробке должны быть датчики толкания стола и всё то, что этот человек захочет добавить в свой готовый продукт.
    --
    Если он начнёт делать и продавать такие полностью готовые контроллеры для игры в пинбол, то он сделает миллионы людей счастливыми. И сам он станет человеком очень богатым. 🙏

      I appreciate your enthousiasm, but I currently have a lot of other projects in sight that I want to do first. I bought several arcades that need to be restored :)
