This looks perfect for me. I used the Modulate and +Delay modes on the RV-6 more than many of my much higher end delays I've had because there's just something about them voiced right for cleans and dirt.
3:39 "always the summers are slipping away" love that song mate. Don't think I've ever heard you play Porcupine Tree before, great stuff. Great video too!
I have the DD-500 and wrestled with myself over the RV-500 and decided I would have to wait for the RV-200. I listened to the Studio Rats video just a minute ago and now your video and it sounds gorgeous.
That arpverb slays dragons 👌 The Heaven Above riff sounds sweeet as always 👌The Limelight is, of course, deeply appreciated 👌Hearing a lot of Eric Johnson Venus Isle vibes with this unit, also 👌 I'll pick up this unit, but mostly to pair with the Boss delay and modulation for a keyboard setup
Boss is another legacy company that doesn't seem to know their own portfolio. The Boss RV-1000 rack unit had the very best reverb algorithms in it that Boss has ever produced. Especially the Cathedral algorithm in the RV-1000 which is THE reverb that Jónsi and Kjarri from Sigur Rós and producer Ken Thomas (Queen, Bowie, The Cure, M83) use on all of their albums despite tc electronic and Eventide's product campaigns to stake a claim in Sigur Rós' famous reverb sounds. Jónsi gave Eventide a custom Blackhole preset and TC electronic a custom Hall Of Fame preset, but the reality is that on the Sigur Rós studio recordings, the only reverb the band uses is the Boss RV-1000. They take the Eventide SPACE pedal and the tc M300 rack units out on tour with them only because the Boss RV-1000 is from 1990 and there are no spare parts to repair them. Once they die, they are gone forever. In addition to the famed Boss RV-1000, the Boss RV-3 reverb pedal on it's Large Plate mode 11 is THE SOUND of Post-Rock music. The Boss RV-3 is the only pedal that defines the sound of bands Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, This Will Destroy You, Caspian, Do Make Say Think, Tortoise and don't forget that the RV-3 Plate Mode 11 is the reverb sound of Radiohead's OK Computer guitars. The Boss RV-5 modulate mode has a similar famous history and has been used by even more famous artists as part of their signature sound. I fail to understand why Boss hasn't carried over the RV-1000 Cathedral, RV-3 Plate mode 11 and RV-5 Modulate mode into their latest reverb product. Even updated versions of those algorithms do not exist in the current offering and while the new arpeggiator mode is cool, if Boss wants to be taken seriously, they need to do with reverb, what they have done with other effects like the CE-1 chorus, Dimension C chorus, RE-201 Space Echo. This pedal release is like Lexicon releasing a reverb pedal and not including a Concert Hall or Rich Plate algorithm.
What's funny is the GM-800 has a bunch of legacy Roland/BOSS reverbs in it, but it's such a niche product I feel it'll get overlooked. It also has the Juno and Dimension chorii while the GT/GX doesn't.
@@LeonTodd Wow! Interesting! I think it really comes down to who is running the dev team on these products. What their historical knowledge is of the entire evolution of products. Boss is actually one of my all time favorite guitar pedal companies. I would say that after Strymon and Electro-Harmonix, Boss would be my #3 overall. It's unfortunate that they're too busy trying to keep up with Strymon, rather than honoring their own uniqueness.
Everything Boss releases lately is pure filth! (Even if it's not dirt filth) Those naughty Boss engineers making me empty my wallet once again. Cheers Leon! Your demos are always bangers!
Just when you think the storm of awesome gear releasing for the year 2024 is dieing down....BOSS...raises Atlantis from the ocean, every guitarist EVER would find this pedal useful.
Hey Leon.. I didn't get to watch this before this afternoon because I had to work.. Great video sir.. Love that DGT, but I must admit I love the gold SE version as far as looks even more! Just too cool.. Boss is one of if not my favorite gear companies because they give good value for the effects they give you and they just work.. Great stuff.. I'm looking hard at the Boss GX100 and ME90 as well as the Fractal of course. Man, it's a hard choice.. If the GX100 has the pitch effects like the Fractal it will be the boss probably, but I don't know if they have it.. I did see you have a set of presets for download, so if I buy the boss, I"ll be downloading your presets and speaker sims for sure brother no matter what! Great reverb.. That's a rabbit hole a person could play with forever.. Reverb is so good for the weird stuff to me! Very cool and it sounds great with the PRS brother, as well of course with your playing.. You could make a rock sound good.. 😛 Love all of your demos brother.. All of them rock sir! Be well and be safe sir! Tim
I'm curious to see how the Roland srv-2000 stands against this BOSS pedal. So far, I couldn't find a nice reverb that delivers that 80s type of sound that SRV does.
Excellent demonstration of this pedal and guitar playing Leon. The Arp verb could be it's own pedal and I would buy one. I hope boss does more with that concept and makes the Arpeggiating voices tunable with LPF and HPF. Some high frequency roll off with a LPF would be nice just on the pitched voices, not on the reverb itself. I always want a separate EQ for the reverb and nested reverb elements! Overall, the RV-200 sounds pretty good, but doesn't offer the signature Boss reverb sound and doesn't exceed the overall reverb quality of the other top tier multi-algorithm reverb pedals. Arp mode will be the "Cloud" of this pedal, although, I think Boss could do a more fully featured Arp reverb pedal as it's own product and take up their own new corner of the reverb pedal market.
I'd love to know how they came up with that mode - I imagine they checked out some of the weird and wonderful granular/glitch pedals out there and thought "what if we took that approach but made it less random and more melodic". Reminds me of the approach the Tera Echo took. I'd grab an AR-2 standalone pedal!
@@LeonTodd yea I’d love to know too, the Arpverb is literally the only reason I’m even considering the pedal. If Boss ever makes a pedal that really goes in-depth with that synth arpeggio sound, i’d buy it in a heartbeat. I’d love being able to tap tempo synth arps over what in playing in whatever time signature I want, instead of just 7/8 like the Meris Enzo lol
@@LeonTodd The Boss Slicer pedal borrowed heavily from the Roger Linn Adrenalinn II pedal. The Adrenalinn II pedal also has an arpeggiator in it that sounds almost exactly like what the arpeggiator in this new Boss algorithm is doing. I do believe that's where the inspiration came from. The EQD Arpanoid, Hologram Dream Sequence, Meris Enzo and other arpeggiator capable pedals just don't sound quite like the Adrenalinn II, which this new Boss algorithm points quite directly at, in a similar way as the Slicer points to the Adrenalinn. The Adrenalinn pedal is a favorite of many film soundrack composers. Great for chase scenes and flying over oceans and mountains scenes. Anything that needs epic zoomed out perspective. A circular panning aerial view of a Frank Lloyd Wright house in the middle of a frozen winter!

couple of really nice algorithms on there, but what a stark contrast between the boss spring reverb and the new fractal spring reverb. cliff did an amazing job. it's the gold standard.

My only issue, £260 for a reverb, why wouldn’t you just wait and not buy 2 dominos orders in a month and buy the RV-500…. The price difference is too negligible, if someone’s willing to spend £260 on a reverb they will wait and get a BigSky. Make the pedal £150 and your in the perfect selling zone, don’t make it £90 cheaper than the “better” version… just my opinion so don’t hate
