Born too late to explore earth, too early to explore space but just in time to witness a Kanye and Playboi Carti AI cover of somebody that I used to know
I've been coming across a lot or Kanye AI songs on my recommendations feed this past week and I listened to good bit of them. And I agree his voice does fit a lot of songs. He has a nice voice.
My understanding is that the voices work well when you feed it a vocal that matches the vocal range of the samples fed into the model. So ai Kanye doesn't sound good singing high notes because the model has little to no reference data for what real Kanye sounds like singing notes that high.

It's crazy that Kanye's range isn't actually all that good on the hight notes, so the raspiness comes through, but still approximates well enough that it actually sounds like Kanye.
It's not really that hard to imagine. It's using the original song as a baseline so it knows what decibels to hit. It obviously knows every song the artists have ever done so I fills in the blanks with Kanye/Carti equivalents

My source is "trust me bro". I never claimed to be an AI engineer I was simply stating that it is not hard to imagine this technology anymore and how it's accomplished. AI/ML is all about data and training that data how you see fit. If you have access to every song an artist has made you can pretty much artificially create then saying anything

The way the AI changes the vowels so that the pitch is still realistic for kanyes range is insane . ( if u don’t get what I mean you can change the vowels in sounds to achieve a similar sound that may otherwise be out of your range , like an O sounding ooooooo to a A sounding ahhhhhh )

The reason it sounds strange is because they use the same vowel sounds, pronunciation, inflections, etc. as the original singer which are huge factors in singing with a particular “style”. As with all the AI generated “covers” it’s blatantly obvious that this is not how Kanye would sound if he actually attempted a cover
