  • How I Load My DJ Van With Equipment For a Wedding Ceremony and Reception /// Not to much excitement here. Just me loading up my van. But there might be a few takeaways for other wedding and mobile DJs out there. In this video I’ll go through the pre-event process I go through when loading up for a wedding.
You’ll see the items I pack up, including XLR cables, power con, Ape Lights, Bose L1 speakers and my wedding ceremony system.
I’ve always found it interesting to see how other DJs prep for the event, namely,
@DJ Rachel and @DJ Barr who make quick cameos on this video. I'd say make sure to support their channel, but if you're watching mine, you are probably are subbed to theirs.

I also use gloves when loading and off loading my equipment and during setup. However i load my wagon with speakers first towards the back of the front seats, then dj console, then 2 bags of cords and tool box for misc cables and my rock n roller on top of my cord bags with speaker stands on the side. Everything usually fits on my rock n roller on one trip, straped with 2 bungee cords.

Great video Justin! Nice tip with the gloves - invariably I’m always getting small nicks and cuts on my fingers with all the loading. I was getting an anxiety attack watching you put together all the stuff you needed for your gig. I have a large case which I use to store all my accessories, scrims, cables, electrical extensions etc. Doesn’t matter what size gig I have, all the stuff I need is one place. Never have to worry. Plus I have my DJ backpack that stores all the other extra small bits like my laptop, headphones, mic stand, wired mic, velcro ties etc.

Gloves are key! I also use the fingerless style, and it's actually the primary pair I use for load in. For some reason, I use the full finger ones in my garage.

Is there anything about my load in process that is similar to yours?

I definitely have to get my husband one of those mats! Also I wish people really knew what's really behind that DJ cost they seem to find so high. 😅 It's a lot of prep, physical and mental work what you guys do. My husband is also a go, go, go person. So he preps the day before, loads, plays and unloads the same day and the equipment he brings is too much work IMO haha, but it's what he loves, so... 🤷🏻‍♀️
Thank you for the video, I'll suggest the use of gloves to him, and may I suggest a weight lifting/support belt? Maybe not for smaller events but sometimes some pieces of equipment can take a toll on your back (specially in the long run). 👍

You are preaching to the choir!! I do use a belt too, just was not wearing it for this video. But yeah, probably should have.
I forgot to include a link to the mat I use (it seriously is the best one I've ever had, and I have gone through a bunch of them). It is pricey, but I swear it is LIFE CHANGING! Here it is: amzn.to/39qTH68

What kind of van do you have?

Good video and that’s a lot of work you’re doing. You definitely want to consider getting a larger dedicated vehicle where you can go without loading and unloading after each job. I’m watching it and it started to bring back the pain in the back of unloading in the middle of the night. Basically I roll out with one case with my laptops and go. I can counts the times in the pass 35 years any of my vans have been completely empty. Getting that first dedicated large van was leap but well worth it, countless savings times & enough. The crazy thing is the stuff you find when you finally take everything out, I found some portable CD players from the 90’s which were buried in a crate of old backup cables. Yea, moving equipment is what nobody really sees.

Thanks ... Ideally I'd like to get a Promaster or something simliar. My van does stay mostly loaded up; it's definitely not a complete unload each time. I do a variety of events, and there's always a varying factor on which gear needs to go and what can stay home.
Also, I'm not as meticulous on the load out after an event (cause I wanna get the eff outta there), so there is always a level of re-organization that needs to be done.

@@djkanoya You have what I really wanted a two car garage that way I could unload or work equipment indoors with the van inside. I can’t do now, the van takes up the whole garage & touch the storage shelves. We were going to move to PA and get a huge house with a huge 2 cars garage but Decided not too as the kids would be leaving then the house would be too big.

I wish I had a three car garage! Which would really be two cars and one storage unit!
