KEXP and Free Yr Radio present Colin Meloy performing "Down By The Water" live from the Ace Hotel NYC during the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon. Recorded 10/22/10.
@@bobobandy9382oh wow you're so edgy. How do you get through life being so edgy. You are the edgiest of the edgiest. Man i would not want to shake your hand because your edge may be too sharp.
He KNOWS what he's talkin about: "All dolled up in gabardine, last fashion/flashin leader, pure 19, Queen of the Water, Queen of the old Main Drag." Brings me to tears.
Arcihac, the song "Down By the Water" by The Decemberists was nominated for Best Rock Song at the Grammys in 2012, covering releases from 2011. Foo fighters won that award.
Good kid. Very down to Earth and appreciative. Come back to The Wilma Colin. There is some songs on all the Tarkio albums that could match this. This.....I know. Cheers my friend.
That's hysterical - not just what you said, but that you would think ANYONE, in THIS day and age, would know what you were talking about. I know "who" you're talking about - and yes, I agree, he DOES look like Benny Hill!
Most country/rock/pop harp stuff is played in "second position", that is the song has one more cross symbol (or one less flat symbol for that matter) than the harp. He's playing in G (actually Em), so second position would be a C harp. I wasn't able to recreate the melody with my C harp (but I have little to no harp experience), so he might be playing in first position (G harp).
It is definitely a G harp that he is playing, which makes sense as Em is the relative minor to G. Your C harp would work if the song were being played in Am.
as it should be! one of the most enjoyable things, that is. check out pistol by dustin kensrue. very brief harmonica and guitar parts, though used to perfection. a very underappreciated song.
Great Song. Would love to play this too on my guitar. I see some of the chords in this video. Perhaps anyone that could give me the full song with chords ?
i've been listening to this song since i was like, 3.
i frickin' love it.
Colin Meloy + a generous pour of whisky = a great night
Look at his audience. We should have seen what was coming. Enjoy, Portland! Enjoy that hell you've made for yourself.

It’s “All dolled up in Gabardine. The lash flashing Lita of pier 19”. I sang it in my old band.
Such a talented man, as someone who has tried to get into playing harmonica, let me tell you, it's not easy.
I like how he lets the low E string just ring no matter the chord.
How many people there knew they were listening to what would be a Grammy nominated song?
+Austin Winston Are you confusing it for the PJ Harvey song?

+Austin Winston Ah, my bad, the Grammys attributed it to Colin Meloy instead of the band, so it didn't come up when I searched.
its shit anyway no wonder it got nominated
@cableaddict It sounds the same here as the album version. It isn't a classical song
He have amazing voice!

Good musician, that's for sure.
@LennonDylanBruce fun fact: he has that string tuned to B flat. also, he often mutes it with his thumb ;)
love his benny hill ressemblance.

His first album was the chronic.

Most wind instruments tend to be in C, as it's the most popular. I think that's the safest bet.
I grew up thinking this song was by R.E.M.
That’s REM’s Peter Buck playing the electric XII on the recording.
What guitar is he playing? I can't tell.
@LennonDylanBruce im pretty sure its a Martin he's playing. not sure of the model.
I love how at first he missed the harmonica.
ya does any one know what key the harmonica is?
Its G. Hope this helps 8 years later
@@StamperOSRS It helps. I was just wondering. Whats amazing thing internet is.
Love this song and his voice. Thanks for post
neil young any one?
@TheFallEffect C would be right if he was playing in C.
This just made me go search up Bukowski x Modest Mouse
Will people ever get tired of g-c-d chord patterns?
nope - will you?
Nope
He's been known to THUMB!
My favorite commie musician hands down. Even as a far right constitutionalist and anti-commie, he really is a talented comrade.
Fuckin A
beautiful...
@gr00vy2000
Tried it.. seems to be G. :)
he's playing a G harp. fact
Don't steal my husband! Ha-ha, jk
