On 01/14/2020, the Wausau City Common Council amended this ordinance, removing the word "Snowball."
My daughter’s reaction: I honestly expected the Mayor to come up and say "This is a fun city, with available job opportunities like the position of deputy chief of police!"

I like this towns sense of humor.. as of right now, I live in Shreveport, Louisiana.. never in my 30+ years has my city made fun videos like this. For some time now I've been thinking about joining the police department here. But after watching this video... and seeing how beautiful it is. And how much fun the people of Wausau are having. I'm now considering applying to join Wausau PD. Hit me up!. with snowballs LOL.

Good news, compared to ours. Here in Kiev, the capital of European Ukraine, one attorney cursed and threatened the judges right in the court. Not to mention the fact of a massive attack on journalists, and spilling piss on them! Nice town you have there, Wausau.

It's not a terrible place. You just have to choose your neighborhood carefully because there are some VERY overzealous aldermen/alderwomen. I had a plastic tarp blow into my yard during a storm one night and had a warning on my door the next morning: "Please remove the tarp from your yard or you will be fined." I've had no issues with the police department, it's mostly the council members that are idiots.

All of that to say, Yes, we do have an ordinance that specifically prohibits throwing snowballs and whether or not we write you a ticket requiring $ fine, it will be at our discretion. And yes the police are in clear violating this ordinance in the video.

A four-steam fastball in someone's head will very likely cause immediate death. Would you prohibit baseball because of that?
I recognize the ordinance was passed in 1962. However this underscores an important point, what we need is common sense... not laws criminalizing every single type of behavior that casts such a wide net that a city and its police force can sanction you for literally anything (just at their discretion). There are already laws on the books for assault and for vandalism (damage to personal property). So an ordinance to ban throwing snowballs is not needed. If you act maliciously, you will face consequences. Local, State and Federal govts have over-criminalized everything and we need to have a return to sanity.

So what you're saying is if you WANTED to hem someone up for throwing a snowball, the option is still there. . . It's a vague ordinance that should be clarified.
In elementary school, SOME kids would put osage orange inside of snowballs. Hard core & heavy compared to snow. So some snowballs can be quite dangerous.
