In this video I upgrade the tweeter on the ION pathfinder 4 to make is sound better. I also added coils for the crossover. Giving it better low bass punch. a much better sound and more flat midrange. Enjoyed your video. I have the Ion Pathfinder 280 and upgraded the subwoofer to an MB Quart DS1-204 Discus 8 Inch shallow mount. It's actually 2ohms so worked perfectly. There is small amount of shaving around the enclosure hole to mount it, and enlarging the screw holes on the basket (only used 4 holes). Also, removed the port tube and sealed it and added sound deadening on the entire inside cavity. Bass sounds truly incredible now! I used to notice a bass drop where the sound fluctuated, so I disabled 2 of the 3 tweeters and that appeared to have resolved it. Added some more polyfill as well. Couldn't find info anywhere on the internet on how to mod an ION speaker, so your video helped with getting me started. I will upgrade the tweeter next. Thanks again!

yea me too. I dont even put stereo systems in my classic cars anymore. I had high end amps speakers, custom built for many years. Now I get the stereo that came in my newer cars and put no radios in my classics. so I just decided to upgrade my Bluetooth speaker.

The Highs dropped off at about 8 to9 k before the speaker change. Now they go up to more than 13k. close to 15....sounds much better. lost that peak at 6k and brought in a low bass punch.
Great vid...My problem is my pathfinder 4 has faulty circuit boards. Amazing I can't find any new ones . They are a great little speaker with nice sound in the stock form.
Cover up the porthole and add some passive radiators and it sounds even better, i actually changed the tweeter and put a crossover in mines, but the pathfinder i got only had 1 tweeter but the sub is the same one

Is there a way to pair a microphone to the speaker? Since this model didn’t come with a microphone compared to the older models. Great video by the way!
I am pretty sure there is. I havent done it yet. but it said something about voice. when I was parring my phone one time. Really sounds better. Once I turned up the volume on my phone too (forgot to check that when doing the video) it was super punchy and really loud. The bass speaker really needed that coil. Some silk domes really made a difference too.
I just got a $35 mic off of amazon and a 1/8 to 3.5mm aux jack for $8, works fine.
What battery do you recommend for an ion pathfinder 280?
Are you guys replacing with a car subwoofer or a full range woofer? Why ohms are these woofers? Thanks
I have the exact same speaker & my enclosure rattles so much (from the bass) that it’s annoying. I tried tightening all the screws but it didn’t help 😕
try using silicone to hold it together. silicone #1
My speaker went out. How do I refix it?
Does it turn on while plugged in?? Check the fuse first. Easy and cheap fix .
Can i add car tweeters and a 8" car subwoofer?? I was thinking an 8" car subwoofer by Rockford Fosgate or JBL
Yea the woofer that is in there is pretty punchy. once you put the coils on there. Then Yea some audax or peerless tweeters. I think Clarion makes a good tweeter set that you could use too.
@@mikesrandomvideos i just got the new Ion 320.. has good bass but the 2 1inch tweeters suck.. the highs are poor and music sounds muffled.. do you know how many watts are the tweeters? Im not sure the max on watts i can get for tweeters if i want to install good tweeters.. also looking for the watts on the 8" subwoofer
@@92greenebeen total watts should not be a concern. I think the amp is only about 15 watts RMS...Max. I belive those are 4 ohm speakers. what size allen wrench did you use to take off back panel? Trying to open back panel because my speaker wont' hold a charge and it is not the battery

@@juanacolenzo9083 probably the charging board. I cant remember if it was separate or included in the main board. often you can put the board info in google and you can find a replacement. use a magnifying glass look at the board really carefully for a burned chip or resistor. I have done this and replaced the bad parts with a soldering gun and fixed it. Look for a number on the board google it.
How many ohms is the subwoofer on this?
Im not really sure. I think 4 oms. I dont think it had a marking. has pretty good efficiency. and much better bass when you put the coil on there.

Thanks for the reply. I actually emailed the company that makes the speaker for this ION, they confirmed the 8” woofer in the Pathfinder 280 is 50W, 2 ohm.
Where did you get the coil?
