- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro claims the US has established secret military bases on the disputed territory of the Essequibo region. Maduro said Venezuela has verified information regarding secret US military bases established by the US Southern Command and the CIA. The CIA ia also allegedly “preparing for an escalation against Venezuela”, as per the Venezuelan President.

@@Renzee-ct4wzGuyana never had close relations with Latin America because Latin America was controlled by Venezuela in its wealthier time when they prevented Guyana from joining OAS and other Latin American bodies and that’s why it is considered a Caribbean country it’s history, politics and Culture is Caribbean. It’s all bush between Guyana and South America. Guyana does however have good relations with Cuba, Brazil and Panama that goes back decades.

My dad came from British Guiana and was of Amerindian extraction.The disputed area belongs to the local Amerindian populations,not the colonial/settlers of Spanish,African or East Indian extraction who are all exploiters.

The 1899 judgement on Essequibo was later declared to be null and void due to gross influence peddling by Britain on the judges in the 1899 panel. ExxonMobil is the USA. ExxonMobil would not have begun this Stabroek field development without consulting the UK at around 2015 or earlier.

The agreement stands, not because Venezuela decided it wouldn't recognise the agreement it agreed and willingly accepted it's null that's not how international law works
@@eonbollers2726 For a treaty to be deem null and void, both parties have to agree that it is null and void. To date Guyana has always maintained that the agreement is valid. So Venezuela cannot unilaterally nullified a treaty. That's how international law works
