Just found your videos and saved me a lot of heartache getting some older stihl equipment my neighbor left me running better than ever. This Bud's for you!
Steve I have a Kawasaki trimmer that suddenly had a throttle lever w no resistance and wouldnt do more than just start and die. I've been watching your channel for a month or so, so I looked for your video that was about almost the same problem I was having. Anyhow, I learned about wide open throttle and what it looks like watching your video. I opened the throttle lever assembly on my trimmer, saw that the throttle cable had become disconnected inside the housing and was able to reattach it. Runs like a dream again. Really appreciate the education!
Steve, just wanted you to know that the small engine shop near my house said it would cost me $150 to fix my Stihl FS55r. I said fuck that and watched every video you had on a weedeater. I got a new carb, a filter, and fuel filter for $15 on amazon and then tuned it with another one of your videos and now it runs like a champ! Thanks for doing what you're doing brother. It took me 3 Coors but your instruction is top notch and I'll try to drop down to 1 beer on the next. Again I can't stress enough how helpful these videos are. Have a good one.
After browsing your wonderfully entertaining and accurate videos in researching my Stihl FS 90 brush cutter's run problem, checking and confirming correctness on my machine, as i go, I watched this one. And guess what? I found my throttle stopped about 3/8" from bottom. I adjusted it using the top adjusting screw to the stop plate and am excited to confirm the problem is corrected. It is way to late to run it right now, my neighbors wouldn't appreciate it. I have been doing this on and off all day. I have gained a tremendous amount of valuable information about my Stihl FS 90 and have enjoyed your entertaining and knowledgeable presentations. I also have a Honda 2200e generator, (runs perfect) and a Ryoby 1800 backup gen (with issues) and a friends older model Briggs 5000 that I will be working on soon. I am so delighted to have found you on UA-cam, subscribed, joined membership and am proud to support your efforts to save us all time and money. You will be seeing more of me as a regular participant. Thanks again for being YOU!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Hi Steve, my confusion has set back on. I posted an up date earlier today after starting and running my FS 90 after adjustment on throttle cable. It tru ran like when I bought it brand new. But this afternoon i fired it back to clean another area and it did the original problem. Tomorrow I will be checking all settings and adjustments again and also adjusting the spot in the hand grip. I have two handed handle grips but i was able to locate the slide adjustment slot. Please inform me if there is something i am over looking. BTW I am on the Big Island of Hawaii, got a cabin on 3 acres of raw rainforest jungle. I am wondering what the time difference between us is.
Steve thank you so much for your videos. I had to remove and clean my carb and also had to adjust my throttle like you showed here. I really appreciate you taking the time to teach us how to do these things
New Sub after watching that video, I'm having that exact issue on an FS 90. I took it to the dealer for a complete renovation, new hoses, cables, lube and primer bulb, had to take it back twice since, it runs like new but only with close to full choke and the cable is not engaging all the time. The dealer said he would take care of it free of charge but I have to haul it to him again. Hopefully I can do it myself and call it a day. Thanks for the info and I'll be having an IPA in 3 hours as soon as it's quitting time.
Right on man. I hate using you tube for help because I’m stubborn, but after a good amount of my 1.75 I retreated to you tube and subscribed to your channel, (I just won’t tell anyone I had to) Being 3:15 am I won’t be able to test it till approximately when my 1.75 is gone. Thanks man. Cheers
Perfect, my new Stihl line trimmer recommends not running full throttle for the first three tank fullings to allow for break in. I just used the T25 and backed off max power. They should included this in the owners manual. Cheers!
thanks steve. I should have watched this before swapping the cable. Not sure if I got the "cogged" plastic piece in the handle all the way forward or back when I installed the cable. Worst case scenario I have to take it apart again...but no big deal. Thanks for the adjustment info!
Another thumbs up steve l didn't know you could adjust you're throttle this way I have 3 weed trimmers and 4 chainsaws 2 lawn mowers you see now why I love your Chanel.
Holy cow you saved me a trip to the mower shop for this one! The cable had come out of the slot its supposed to be in and now its all adjusted back how its meant to be!
I wish you have stihl fs 85, i think i lost the cable's lock mechanism. Because i didn't see any lock that's hold the cable same as what I've saw now that circular lock that hold your cable. ...any alternative ways?
My weed eater is giving me max power and is louder like Rpm is high but watch your video and adjusted it but when I cut grass not getting full power as I was before but running and idling
Your videos are so helpful. You have an awesome channel! Do you have a video to show what to do when the throttle cable is sticking, in other words if you let go of the trigger the throttle stays open because the cable sticks in that position?
Started my tiller after sitting all winter. Throttle was a little stuck. Put some wd40 and then got it started and ran it and all good. Today tye throttle cable is froze I can open the throttle with a screwdriver. Sprays wd40 all I could in tye cable ends and all that and still stuck. WTH. Got my Flathead ipa also lol. But have me opportunity to clean the air box and filter but still stuck. Is it froze in tye middle of the cable or what I don’t get it. Thanks Steve !
Hello Steve, i've got a Stihl FS350 trimmer and i don't have either of these adjustments on my unit. The owners manual even shows the adjustment by the hand throttle but i don't have it. Have you ever come across that problem? Thnx
That's really cool. But that's a expensive weedeater. What about say a Weedeater brand XT 90? Is there any way to adjust these cables? I've watched a lot of your video's. I've rebuilt the carburetor, put new fuel line in, tuned it and it runs awesome except one thing that I can't figure out. The throttle cable is to short. Unless I use a screwdriver and push the throttle all the way back, it revs kinda high. Any help would be great. Thanks.
I really liked the way you already had the beer in your hand when the video started. My attention was immediately drawn to the beer in your hand and you waving the beer around when you were talking. If I were a new viewer, I would be wondering, "Why is he waving that beer around?" and then when you actually drank it, they would catch onto the joke. You need to spend a few more seconds saying something about the beer such as: "A really cold Budweiser sure goes down smooth on a hot day." Keep up the good work and the video was very helpful.
Steve, get a clean funnel and pour that Budweiser in the funnel with your thumb stopping the flow and gulp that beer in two seconds before it gets warm
Mr Steve, my Sthil fs 55 run full fine when I turn it side to side . But when it’s strait up it Boggs down full throttle, but idles good. Can u give me some pointers please. Thanks.
Hi Steve, thx for the expanation which works well on a KM130R Combi but not on the new KM131R. Stihl has changed the pivot point where the throttle cable is attached. I have a KM131R and the pivot shaft on which the cable is attached has too much play in the bore. Due to that it's impossible to have a full throttle and I do not see a way to adjust the cable, not at the carburator nor at the handle. Have you ever heart about that issue?
I have an fs 91r (newer version of this model) and it has play in the trigger before it starts to open the carb up. I checked to see if there were any adjustments like the 90 in this video but I did not see anything similar to that. Any suggestions on the new model?
Hey Steve, I have a Stihl one man post hole digger right now. The trigger is very spongey feeling and often stays stuck on the wide open position. Any suggestions?
Are Echos built the same way? I have an echo that i use as my back up for in case my Stihl is down, and it takes a while, several times of pumping the throttle trigger for the throttle to get the trimmer to stay running
Hey Steve Ive really appreciated your videos. You clearly explain and show what you are doing . I have a Husqvarna BT 125 leaf blower. Picked it up at a yard sale for $5 engine was seized. Went through now it starts and runs great but the after market carburetor throttle cable is a good 1/4 inch short . Any way to take up the slack ?
If the Bore Piston is gone of a 2stroke brush cutter then how can we check carburetor is gone or it is still working. ( Please tell me about this Sir )
The problem I'm having is I had to take the handle off and I reassembled it right, but I had to force the throttle cable back into where it needed to be, but when I start it it goes wide open.
Anyone ever heard a slight hiss when pressing throttle about half way you can hear it.for a split.second near the exhaust. It's got about 2 years left on the 4 year warranty and just started hearing it today. Figure I'd ask to see if its something common on a stihl fs straight shaft

If you take off the plastic top, you may be able to see what is going on. Mine was being held open by little sticks.
Started my tiller after sitting all winter. Throttle was a little stuck. Put some wd40 and then got it started and ran it and all good. Yeah! That cracked me up!

Thanks. Keep making good videos

Hey Steve, I have a Stihl one man post hole digger right now. The trigger is very spongey feeling and often stays stuck on the wide open position. Any suggestions?

Something similar works on an FS200 with bike handles. The main difference was that I was drinking a Coke.

You're Welcome...

Throttle cable adjusting screw . I didn't replace the cable
If the Bore Piston is gone of a 2stroke brush cutter then how can we check carburetor is gone or it is still working. ( Please tell me about this Sir )
How do I get the cover off
I have an fs46 sthil. I have wide open throttle but when I release the trigger it stays wide open. How do i get the throttle to close?
Nevermind I figured out the problem. The rubber tubing the throttle cable goes in was very dirty. Clean it and now to work very smoothly
Thanks again for the information. Now you can send me a truck load of 🍺 beer.
Awesome Steve 🍺🍺👍👍
Thank You...
Thanks
You're Welcome...
Good job
Thumbs up
Thank You...
The problem I'm having is I had to take the handle off and I reassembled it right, but I had to force the throttle cable back into where it needed to be, but when I start it it goes wide open.
Fixed it, the throttle cable slipped out of place on the carb side
My weed eater head want stop spinning can you help thanks
Anyone ever heard a slight hiss when pressing throttle about half way you can hear it.for a split.second near the exhaust. It's got about 2 years left on the 4 year warranty and just started hearing it today. Figure I'd ask to see if its something common on a stihl fs straight shaft
Damn wish I saw this earlier. I just opened the whole thing like a dummy
Mine is stuck at full throttle. Trigger doesn't seem to work. Then it dies soon as I try to use it
Hey Steve i have a throttle handle that looks like this img.banggood.com/images/oaupload/banggood/images/67/C3/3e952897-3c27-4beb-8392-09d40e08c49a.jpg
Do you have any idea what should the cross section of this handle look like, i'm having difficulties figuring out how to position the return spring.
Steve did you have long hair back in the '70s and '80s? I can picture you 30 years ago with a ponytail
Erik D. I don't think he's that old do you? Thinking he was prolly about ten in 70s if I had to guess
My still sounds like its flooded while using it
I don't like those 4-mix engines, had one Stihl FS 130. Uncomfortable to operate. At least for me.
Hello I have a small lawn care business and a UA-cam channel and I am looking at buying a Stihl 91 R as an investment and I was wondering what the best type of trimmer line to use in it because I really do not know much about trimmer line
