      And often the underrated are some of the very best like David Nadien.
      A new discovery for me. Thank you.

    That warm, buzzy sound mixed with an innate sense of line...it's deeply satisfying. He made very beautiful music.

      Because its played on the lower string, that is what make it sound deep and beautiful.

    A very GREAT violinist, his short pieces have the quality of Heifetz's and the warmth of Elman. His Maestro Adolfo Betti brought him on the right path. Great artist.

    So little Nadien on UA-cam. More please! What a wonderful artist. I know he did a lot of commercial work. I would also like to hear that. Anything...as long as it's Nadien.

    David Nadien was happily and enthusiastically acknowledged to be the greatest violinist of his generation, especially by those who were considered to be the second and third most naturally gifted of his time.

    Beautiful - it sounds as if Boris Barere (son of the legendary Simon Barere) was the piano accompanist. One can tell from the lyrical style of his playing.

    The era of Kreisler, Elman, Heifetz, Oistrakh, and men like Nadien, are long gone. The new violinists are efficient and technically wonderful, but the soul is dead. They play these short pieces with artificial feeling. It's all technique now. It's like so many typewriters clacking. The wunderkinder of the last 50 years can't move me deeply at all. There's no poetry, there's no romance, no subtlety of expression, true emotion, or spontaneity. It's all calculated.

    • @hansmahr8627
      @hansmahr8627 4 роки тому +10

      Oh please. Yes, tastes have changed. Constant and intense vibrato is nowadays seen as sentimental or tasteless (just like it was before the romantic era) but it's not like there's no emotion anymore. Do you really want to tell me that Maxim Vengerov for example has a soulless way of playing? I think he's one of the most intense violinists of all time, his sound is absolutely wonderful. No subtlety of expression in James Ehnes' playing (who has sometimes been compared to Heifetz)? And it's odd that you name Heifetz, even though his playing was sometimes described as technically brilliant but lacking emotion (in my opinion, it's only true in some recordings).

      @@hansmahr8627 I agree with you about Heifetz, but constant thick vibrato was not approved in the romantic period, it only really became a thing after Kreisler did a good job with it and then everyone else went crazy even to the extent of bad taste (which Kreisler himself never did). Maybe a few other violinists contributed to vibrato inflation, but Kreisler is the first i come to mind in history to use constant vibrato.
