@@vazzoxTito true, but considering I had a rough time making the money I did with my struggling business and my part time job it was my only option with my budget it is kind of a bummer if that makes any sense
If you're losing the tach, that means losing crank signal. On 90s hondas the distributor has 3 sensors in it, one is for crank. If ECU doesn't see crank signal it can't run. The later OBD2 cars had a crank signal down by the crank pulley, not sure if that's needed for it to run, or what your setup is, but it definitely sounds like you're losing rpm signal for some reason or another
distributor issue likely. there are a few variatons on distributors on the hondas and some have a crank sensor and some dont if i remember correctly. I had the same issues and it took a very specific distributor to fix my issue. and i tried like 5 or 6 diff ebay ones, some would work for a min and then crap out. go oem or rebuild the one that came with the head and ecu.
i took a break from cars and working in my garage cause of the cold winter.. your channel made me miss all that and now i am going to try to fix my junk, thanks, dude
16:20 "It's still burping bubbles out." You got 3 sensors/switches for the coolant. ECU, Gauge and Fan switch. The gauge sensor is single wire under the dist. / vtec sol. and can be finicky. Wire your fan to a manual switch is easy and gives some extra control.
I have a 65 fastback that i took back to the way she was born. I am not a purest its what i prefer. I see you mention people being upset about your car. I think its fantastic. I am what i think would be in the majority when i say i am just happy to see the next generation keeping these cars on the road working on them and enjoying them. Real car people may not necessarily share your taste but will still think its pretty cool.
It wouldn't be affected by boost. This is prob a map sensor / boost pressure cut happening in the ecu. Tuner needs to data log and see what's going on.
Speaking from experience sir . Swap your ignition control module (igniter) inside the distributor . Hope this helps . So glad to see masu back 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️
Sorry to spam with comments . Just trying to help an awesome ignorant brother out🤘🏻🖕🏻 😉. Your swap does not have a crank sensor . It reads off camshaft position inside the dizzy .The ignition cut fouls them out quickly so I suggest grabbing a few from a local junkyard . Swap that igniter with another Honda OEM one and watch that problem go away 🤘🏻🤘🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻💪🏻💪🏻
As a 56 year old man who grew up around 65-69 Ponys (my Pops restored them) I have to say this is a pretty cool build you did I would definitely have a blast in that and yes I subscribed.
You need to take it to a tuner and data log the inputs. Your either getting a bad signal from the map sensor or something in the tune has changed. Seems as though the ecu is commanding fuel cut based on boost settings or input from map out to lunch causing it to see an over boost vs the tunes parameter. You also need to time the car since you swapped the dizzy. it's crucial you install boost gauge , wide band and pyrometer. Really beneficial to keep an eye on these and learn your engines normal temps , AFR and if you develop boost leaks , over boost etc. Good luck. Used to boost and tune Honda's 20yrs ago almost now. Uberdata ,Crome software with moates ostrich and burn the final chip when down tuning. P28 ECUs usually. Or a gsr ecu with knock sensor capability
To quote my old friend, "I love your show man" I remember about 20 years ago when I took this older guy in our shop for a ride my then "build" Honda A gutted out, jdm b16 swapped 90 EF hatchback that did +9,200rpm and chirped tires during 3-4th shift at +70mph. He didn't expect that, but never doubted the Honda game after that first ride along. True hot-rodders appreciate the work.
If your c.e.l. is on that can cause it to shut down when it hits boost. Scan it and fix the problem. Also change the spark plugs and compression test or a leak down test the engine.
I would check your coil packs. Had a friend with a wrx that was having a similar issues. He replaced the coil packs and now had his full boost and zero hesitation or trouble starting. Love the content!!!

Id check for loose wires to the ecu, INTAKE TEMP SENSOR itself can make the air fuel go to shit yes you have to run it i had the same issue, bad injectors or bad speed sensor(itll make your selected 2step rpm act like a rev limiter), If it's hondata s300 you can still pull codes, if it's chipped ecu there's not really an easy way, it's not crank sensor because obd1 b18b blocks don't run crank sensors & the b18b & b20s are very similar , there's a fuel pump ground wire that runs behind the driver seat that tends to corrode on eks I've had that limit my rpms, also possibly the distributor or connection to it(tach usually bounces & freaks out with a bad distributor)
Obd1 ecu doesn't need crank sensor to run or the knock either. Your last worry is gonna be possible internal damage like leaking valves or worn piston/rings
Had the same issue with a b-series build at one time. Ended up being the distributor grounding out on the block. It would run, go dead, lose tach, not start, start, really odd behavior with no pattern or predictability to it. Replaced the TPS, knock, 02 sensors, pump gas, race gas (before e85 was a thing) and everything else I could think of before discovering the bad ground caused by an MSD unit. Happened again on another build but that time the cap was bad and allowing the distributor to ground out on the block. Also I ran an aftermarket sheet metal manifold that caused overheating as well. It was blocking the flow of coolant through the head. Had to tap in a bypass hose so I could get everything flowing again. Mind you, all this stuff happened in early 2000s... a lot has changed since then.
