Looks good, I have a FM13 chipper . Would be interesting to see side by side comparison. I have had mine for 4 years and am very pleased with it, but this FM14DD is half the weight and size. Also have a TW18/100 which is also good but there are pros and cons for both. Good video.

Definitely pal, opens up the range to putting hedge reductions through it etc, really wouldn’t take long to get your money back! It would 100% fit in the combo, you would just need to remove the two chutes each time
Hey Sam, I got the smaller fm6DD based on your past review. thanks for uploading this. I think the machine worked brilliant for anything upto 2-3". Anything over that from 10mins onwards In the video, although it ate through it the chute and general health of the machine I think would soon deteriorate very quickly. I'm sure I saw a dent in the bottom of the entry chute at 10min mark 😂. Still it looks incredible but I think you can clearly see its capabilities here.

Yes absolutely this machine is a beast for 2-3” for around the 4” mark it does do some chugging, but in my line personally I will always have a mix of branches, never 100 pieces of 4” lengths, but yes I noticed this post review ! I can only assume it’s from pulling pieces with severe off branches through.
If I keep a hold of it long enough I will definitely do a follow up of both machines in 12 months time 😄

It’s pretty easy to pull around also, there is many brands around this size chipper to look at, I’m sure you will find one that suits you mate 💪🏽🪵
This may be a question that you might not have an ability to answer but here goes anyway. Ramps aside, would you be able to have mounted a smaller Tommy lift platform on the back of the van to lift heavier things like this chipper up so you can just roll it into the van?
If not a folding compact crane that mounts on the inside of the van just past a door. Can unfold and turn, lift and hold a weight for loading into the back of your van?
How about a moving tray bottom that can slide extend outside the doors, the withdraw in to lock to make loading or grabbing smaller things easier without the need to crawl in and out of the van?

Must have been around 20 minutes pal at a guess, obviously I was back and forwards with the camera etc. it really didn’t take long that’s for sure
The actual chipping part of forest master machines is brilliant it’s just a shame they use such a crap engine. Mine gave up the ghost with less than 4 hours use from new. Now looking to swap it with a Honda or Briggs’s engine
Hi Chris ! I must say it’s not a go to engine but it is the same in the 2” and that has been running perfect since I got it last year, must be well past 10 hours usage. My only gripe is that you have to put it to choke every time you start them up, regardless how long they have been running for. A B&S would definitely suit the machine more but again I haven’t had any problems🙂

Hi pal! I use a set of Titan ramps, I don’t believe they are on sale anymore but there is many similar, roughly 2.2m in length and foldable 💪🏽
The problem with the Forest Master chippers is that they can only cope with 'green' wood, ie that has been cut within the last few days. After that the chipper tries to chip the wood into dust and blocks up in no time flat.
Fastenings are not a single component but washer, split washer and nut - not ideal when you are out in the field - take a sheet to put it on so you don't loose anything.
Some other chippers of similar power don't have this issue suggesting a design issue with the Forest Master chipper - so preferably look elsewhere if the wood to chip is more than a few days old!!.
I must say I’ve chipped wood that’s a few months old, I’ve never had an issue! Something I’ll definitely try to test against this season👍🏼🌱
@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance The issue is worse when you try to chip hardwood rather than softwood and some hardwoods are worse than others. A reply from Forest Master themselves:
Our compact chipper series is designed primarily for chipping freshly cut wood. The FM6DD has been tested thoroughly chipping freshly cut hawthorn wood (slow-grown hardwood).
We recommend that the wood is chipped no longer than three days after cutting. After this date, the wood will begin to dry out, meaning the chipper blades then struggle to dig into the wood. This produces a sawdust-like waste from the exit chute, and the chipper will struggle to self-feed.
If the chipper is producing sawdust - this is a clear sign that the wood is dry. When chipping slow-grown hardwood like fruit trees (such as cherry or apple trees) you must ensure that you chip the material the same day that it is cut to ensure the machine operates at full effectiveness.
Unfortunately I was unaware of the issue prior to buying!!
@@rtreborg8472 fair one pal! I suppose it really depends on the usage for the chipper ey, I hope you have managed to get yourself sorted with one that is right for you. For me personally I usually cut and chip on site within the same job. Rarely I would have to leave it. Even though start of the year the chippings in this videos were 2-4 weeks old. Fair enough they are mostly smaller in diameter though.
I've got the 6.5hp model. I put a whole hedge row of 1.5" Yew and it ate through it! I've been using it for a year and can't really fault it for its size. I'm not sure why you'd want to chip dry wood
Bit pricey this one & their 6hp bit little. What would you buy if you had bang on £1000 to spend?
Hi there! I think with a grande I would be looking at either a second hand 4” chipper or the Cobra 3” chipper which is around £750 😄

Best to get a used 4 inch, I had a 2 inch chipper, waste of time.
