Two years ago I was working on this piece for a performance, as a beginner it really frustrated me. I couldn’t find a video as soft and good as yours. Watching this now I see everything my teacher told me to do and lots more. My performance was average. I still can’t stand listening to myself. Since then I did not have the courage to take the piece back. I have been wanting to do so for a long time. Especially the last section I struggle memorising the left hand. I’ll give it another chance I guess😊😊

Wonderful! I’d love to hear your performance once you’re comfortable with the piece! Let me know if you have any questions:)

Great tutorial Robyn. Was really pleased when i heard you say practice the left hand chords for Several weeks because I've been on this peice for about 3 weeks and am still not entirely comfortable with the chords, I'm almost there but not quite.

Thank you, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! Yes, absolutely no rush on any part of this piece:) I feel like practicing the LH can be quite meditative, and just sinking into that sound world helps us build the automaticity over time!

Thank you for sharing your great skill. There are many people who can play the piano but few who are good at teaching. You are good at teaching. I hope to progress with you.

Thank you, Robyn, for this wonderful tutorial, and wonderful advice for learning it. Question: Why do you think there are hardly any good tutorials of Erik's "Je Te Veux"? That puzzles me. I want to learn it so badly. Anyway, thanks again!

Thank you so much for your kind comment! I must confess, I wasn't familiar with "Je te veux", but it's a beautiful work - thank you for mentioning it! I would imagine there aren't many tutorials because it's much less known, but it's also longer and more difficult. At some point, I want to do a series on little-known masterpieces (because while the top hits are fun, it's also nice to play something unique!) - that series will be quite a while coming, but this will be on the list:)

Hi Robyn, thanks a lot for your great explanations and tips. This really helped me to be able to start learning this piece correctly. I'm looking forward to part 3; hope you will create it. A question that you might want to discuss is how to play the E and F# in measure 37: do I need to keep these keys down or can I use the pedal for that?

Hi Rob, I'm so glad you found the tutorials helpful! Part 3 just went live today, and I show you exactly how to play that spot in m. 37:)

Thanks for sharing this. I find your tutorials really clear and helpful. I do have one question if that's ok - I'm following a score from 'MusOpen' which I thought was the original piece, but in my notation there are several points where the melody and chord are shown very slightly offset - I think it might be referred to as dislocation, I'm not too sure? The first time it happens is in the 7th measure, and again in the 15th, and then it reoccurs at points throughout. I rather like it, but I can't seem to see any mention of it online. I'm beginning to wonder if I might be following a peculiar arrangement?

Thank you for stopping by and asking! I'm not entirely sure without seeing your music - feel free to send me an email, and we can have a look together. robyn@pianowithrobyn.com

Did you switch pianos because of the squeaky paddle? :p

hahaha! It's the same piano - got the squeak fixed 😆 but it's a new apartment - my family moved from Berlin to Vienna :)
