Let's hope the owner looks after it and I'll have it when it's about 10 years old and I can afford it 🙂
For someone with a family that want space, reliability and practicality and they don't want any of the shit suvs that can't off-road, it perfect
Toyota/Suzuki alliance, wow, should be some good stuff coming out from them...
You can refuse to take the car without a spare wheel, my friend did and they rolled over and provided a wheel, jack etc, deal done. Not everyone lives in suburbia. I'm with you 100% on that
I don't buy a car without a spare wheel. Even those silly limited speed things are better than nothing.
@@johnclarke2997 those goofy little tires have got me out of a jam or two for sure……anything round in a pinch!
What a lot of codswallop. I’ve had 3 punctures - none of them ‘car disabling’ in so far as they were all slow. My father, in his 47 years of driving has had 1 puncture that was not a slow one and needed to be changed at the roadside. He tells me that was in 1978. Jesus, I pay extra on my breakdown so this roadside faffing about is a thing of the past. I simply would not even attempt to change a wheel and just get recovered to a tyre fitter, or my home where a mobile fitter could come out to me. I’d rather be away from my car than gaffing about on a hard shoulder with a jack for example.
@@londonrascal your opinion is based on your experiences, you don't live where I live in the middle of nowhere. If you have a spare wheel it's like an insurance policy... you hope you never need it but when you do you are glad of it. I work on cars as a hobby, so prefer to have the spare just in case, also my cinquecento has unusual tyre size and not readily available!
I got a Toyota Corolla 2.0 litre estate and ordered one with a spare wheel. No way was I going anywhere in a vehicle that didn’t have a spare wheel and don’t recommend having one without a spare wheel to anyone.
Nice family car, sensible but not too boring. I have the same feelings of sympathy for Suzuki as you. Maybe a David and Goliath thing 😁
I love some good badge engineering!
yep ..98 % Toyota
Only 30 seconds in but that flat slab of a dash bodes well for the tea shelf test.
I might have said this before but I agree about the lack of a spare wheel.
Lovely looking car though.
Looks great with the suzuki styling and having it based on the corolla is perfect for it.
I can not wait to drive this, super excited
When I was out and about today, I caught a glimpse of a very striking car in the mirror. I couldn't see the badge, but I now recognise it as one of these Suzukis. Lovely car!
I was also overtaken by a white Kia Stinger. This was the first one I've seen in the flesh, but that's way off topic :)
Great review thanks. As a Suzuki fan (having owned a 1995 Swift, 2013 Alto and 2019 Baleno) I’m pleased to see Suzuki offering something a little different in their line up. It would be great if they offered a hatchback or saloon version as there is a bit of a gap in their range now.
Got to say i do like it my sister inlaw had swift the top of the range one looking for a new car might have to go and have a look thank for doing a review keep up the good work
Great review thx, now i really want this car.
I was like “Corolla?”
Excellent review. The fit and finish looks good too.
I looked at this review a year ago (as well as others) when considering a Swace, this review definitely influenced my decision and I've now had mine for a year now. I agree with everything you said, great car, some of the other reviews go on about the engine drone, but for your average driver, that's never going to be an issue. Still think it looks really smart and a pleasant change to all the samey SUV's. Thanks !
Very good review. Congratulations. You gave measurements for the boot and covered little things like the folding wing mirrors and usb connections including which usb for Apple car play etc.. Details like this are what I want from a review.
I agree the space saver spare is a no brainier having been driving for over 50 years and often over 20,000 miles a year when working a spare wheel for punctures isn’t often needed but when it is it’s essential.
We need more Cit BX over manufacture tie ups modern boxes. When a Suzuki becomes a Corolla sw
Unfortunately Peugeot has them in a str8 jacket..
Nice smart motor, hopefully it's a success. Great video 👍
Great looking car but that paintwork down the drivers side has more orange peal than a Tropicana factory!
Orange peel for days!
We have the Toyota Corolla estate which came with a space saver spare as standard. Yes the CVT does take some getting used to but I'm told it has a conventional 1st gear. Nice to see a reviewer give actual boot dimensions instead of litres. Great review as usual Matt.
I’ve just got my Corolla this week as my company car. After driving manuals for so long I got a shock on the motorway when it was revving it’s nuts off. it’s taking some getting used to . Not a fan of the CVT so far but I love the rest of the car
Will give this a watch shortly.
Ordering mine today, looking forward to driving it next year.
Enjoy!
Ordered it in pearl white crystal shine
Watching this just after Hubnotes, got furlough today so watched early it's a hybrid 🤔 out of my price range can only dream 😅😳 🤓
Why are newly registered cars still sporting the EU membership number plates ? Only saying - oh one plus point, at least this model is made in the Toyota plant in Derbyshire.
Great video I enjoyed watching this
What a great car and review there is very little to complain about it great overall design
Nice car Matt and drive,it's got alot of tech for its spec.part petrol/electric is what they should do in all models.
Great review Mat 👌 nice family car. Should be very reliable. You are 100% correct. I had to purchase a space saver as my car came with a useless can of foam 🤣😂
Completely agree with you Matt. Good to see someone making an estate rather than yet another SUV cross over.
Get a spare wheel in the boot and Suzuki could be into something. Think we can gloss over the hybrid drive train, auto transmission and lack of a conventional hand break.
Looks like the sort of family car that will comfortably do the job and without the SUV premium cost.
I've driven regular petrol engined CVTs and they do take a bit of getting used to-the way they just jump up to near the red line if you put your foot down and then just smoothly gather speed feels like you're driving a manual with a seriously slipping clutch. I actually don't mind that, though!
9:34 That was not the rear wiper switch, looks more like some kind of heated windscreen. Rear wiper control is on the stalk where you would expect.
At 17:30 the Toyota hybrid synergy drive has the advantage that it is not belt driven, using two electric motor generators instead which has turned out to be very long lasting.
9:29 - the missing button is S-IPA (parking assist), the button on the steering wheel described later as S-IPA is actually a lane departure assist.
9:34 - it is not a rear window wiper but a windscreen/front wiper heating
The design of that car be it Toyota/Suzuki is very cool. Quite an interesting tie up of manufacturers and I didn't even know this existed until this video! It's such a shame that all cars now have black/chrome/piano black interiors though, quite depressing and samey.
100% with you on the spare wheel malarkey Matt - I still have a full size spare and it's proved its worth twice in the last year!
Would have this just because it's different. Great review as always 😊
It was surprising how many people double took the front when they saw the badge, rather fun seeing the reactions!
Quite well said, sir! When I had a puncture in my mother's Mercedes C Class last month, the tyre repair kit was bit useless. Spare wheels should be standard in all cars, shouldn't they? I think I ought to try one of these Swaces for myself, actually, whether it is just an emissions compliance car or not...
Cracking review and going to be honest I had never heard of this until my friend asked me if I had heard of one! Intresting in my latest video I mentioned I would have a corolla hybrid but think this would be another one to consider as well.
This is the same car. Built on the same line as Corolla in Burnaston. It's a way for Suzuki to meet the EU target of 100g/km.
I test drove the Corolla last year and was very impressed. I drove the 2 litre version which was nearly fast. Also you get a bigger battery in the 2 litre so it spends more time on electric. I got 56mpg in an hours drive. Pity Suzuki do not get this version.
I think the Swace is slightly better looking than the Corolla plus blind spot monitoring and heat steering are not available on the Toyota; odd as they are built on the same production line. In Britain.
But I think the Suzuki’s biggest problem is the Corolla. The Suzuki is no cheaper, it only gets a 3 year warranty, the Corolla has 5. The Corolla is actually cheaper on PCP as it depreciates less. One of the appeals of the Suzuki brand is value. This is too expensive. The Across (RAV4) has the same problem. They should have priced their version under 40k to get around the road tax problem.
However this will probably make an excellent second hand buy as it should then be cheaper than the Toyota. And rarer.
Hell of a name ! Let's hope they don't decide to make an offroad version called the Sludge.
No that one is called the Across
I'd be more worried if they branched out into stickers.... Swace stickers.
or a sporty model called Patrick.
@@planestrainsdogsncars4336 isn't that name reserved for the upcoming pottery wheel lineup?
@@benholroyd5221 I was thinking more along the lines of Patrick Swace.. .ok I'll leave now...lol
Nice Toyuki
Like the electric spedo. Shame they didn't offer the option to switch it from analogue to digital as having a digital readout make it so much easier to keep track of, especially in 20mph areas of towns with speed cameras. It's one of the reasons I kept my Honda Civic.
Love to see a review of the swift
Not a fan of Suzuki cars but I must say a good move to team up with Toyota I would by a swace looks very nice. Great review
Never driven a Suzuki but am well impressed Matt , looks really good and I like the angular design inside and out. Will definitely checkout the top of the range SZ5 , interesting video 👌🏻
This won't drive like a Suzuki as it's a rebadged Toyota. Nothing wrong with that. Suzuki have a rebadged RAV4 as well
I don't understand why people go mad for SUVs when an estate car is all you ever need.
Higher driving position.
@@robertmagee5523 Ugh!
@@robertmagee5523 By only a few inches at best. Hardly worth the extra few grand.
@@davidyoung9561 It seems they beg to differ. It is what it is.
But truth is, its a choice of style mostly. SUVs are the "in" thing to get.
@Alfred Wedmore Indeed the entry and exit is much better than a normal estate car if you are a bit stiff in the knees and back. But I dont know if I would say they take up less space compared to a car with the same interior volume. Certainly some form of minivan or for that matter a Van-ised hatchback as a Golf Plus or Renault Scenic among others would be much better for interior vs exterior space if that was a concern, and they dont sell nearly as well, I dont think.
Great car and video😀🇳🇴
Lots and lots in that car looks like it's lifted straight from the Corolla Altis, which is no bad thing. Especially the dashboard and vents.
Good video, however you forgot to show how good the rear camera is.
It’s a car. Without a spare wheel, but it has “interesting” seats... I’m still watching, because I like both Suzukis and Toyotas. I got to the end. Thank you.
The best Suzuki ever since its a Toyota
Here in America, we get the equivalent Corolla Hybrid sedan. They're not a bad A-B car tbh. The Corolla Hybrid is only available in value LE trim, it doesn't get the faux cut and sewn dash and there are a few less shiny bits here and there but otherwise the same car
Do you recommend this car I'm thinking of getting one cheers hope the new premises is going ok .
top marks brother
Thank you for the review, Matt.
I was looking forward to a proper revision (?). I always had the impression that the Swace is having the shape and the look of a smaller Toyota Auris Wagon. Now I know why.
The only drawback is the price. Okay it is Japanese. Okay it showing the signs of Suzukis and Toyotas; it is going to be reliable. But please.. for the GL+ as the lower model, over GBP 21500 over here in HU. I fear that due to the virus, with all the stuff happening in terms of 'business and gains', that is too much - at least for me.
Cool looking car. I think I would take this over a compact SUV like Suzuki's own Vitara for example...
Suzukis owns Grand Vitara is a practical SUV that is actually capable off road and towing, unlike many modern SUVs.
Its a toyota hybrid estate!!!!! Looking car...... Stay safe matt great content ☕☕☕☕🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🔧🔧🔧
Yuo mane Suzuki hybrid estate
Great video! A car full of surprises, I also reviewed the Suzuki Swace in my channel and I think I looks more interesting than the Toyota Corolla and it is great value for money!
Can only say this: love it, love it, love it.... 😊
Burnaston is in Derbyshire, not Deeside. Good review though! 👍🙂
Interesting that there are three variations of the Corolla in the UK! Sedan, hatchback, and estate. I also noticed they're all hybrids. Here in the US, we only have two. Sedan and hatchback. Well, there are technically 3 as there's a hybrid sedan offered. I was going more by body style than engine choice. I rarely see the hatchback variant in Florida and only recently learned it still existed in the 2021 model year. I wish we had more estate/wagon styles still in production. In the more affordable range, we're pretty much stuck with the Subaru Outback in 2021. Audi, Volvo, Mercedes, etc. are all on the pricier side, but still offer estate/wagon variants. I WISH Volkswagen still offered the Golf Sportwagen and AllTrack. I see both on the road with regularity, despite VW US saying they weren't hot sellers. Thankfully, there's still the used market! A side note: the door switches for the windows on the Swace look exactly like the ones in my dad's 2017 Tacoma.
No 1.2 turbo (non hybrid) in the uk?
This is how you do a proper car review
Isn't it the Lane Keeping Assist key at 10:19? Or maybe the cheaper cousin Lane Departure Warning system?
I saw the photos and was immediately dubious of the Swace. How narrow minded was I? I am completely converted after this video Matt. The Engine Braking mode on the transmission sounds great.
A potential replacement for your C Class estate in the years to come possibly.
Swace? What were they thinking?
Toyota of us has a contract with Suzuki its amazing I have rav4 in us and I love it this car look exactly almost like a Toyota and inside too.
Also I love the. Automatic transmission because here in us you will loose your hand if get stuck in traffic.
Always liked Suzuki! And Daihatsu, the oddballs in Japans car industry, always like the oddballs!
Corolla station wagon. I haven't seen those in years. Neat but we won't get one in Canada.
Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid always used Toyota's previous generation Hybrid technology. Is it the same with Suzuki?
Can't wait for the review of the Suzuki Swank.🍉🍉
If this was a diesel or plug in hybrid it would be perfect. It is still a great car!
Marriage made in heaven - I’d be tempted, will have to save my pennies.
Swace = sports wagon ace? A really appealing car, just what you would expect from a Toyzuki.
Something I always wonder watching car reviews is if you can fold the passengers seat flat. More often than volume I find length limits what a car can carry (e.g. pipe, wood etc.) However a fold flat passengers seat is a substantial advantage when you want to use your car for utility things. 🤔
Both of my Volvo estates did it and I think it gave between 10 and 11 feet of length.
I like this front bumper design more than Corolla...
When Matt beat Matt to a new car review. ☺️
I wonder, would you be better off taking this to a Toyota dealer for servicing and maintenance? What would the average Suzuki tech know about Toyota Hybrid system? Are Suzuki dealers really going to have to spend more money on training and equipment for all the hybrid diagnostic tools and stuff? I really hope Suzuki is in a good place and getting a good deal off the back of this. We've got both Toyotas and Suzuki in the fleet, love both brands.
Do not for get in the boot you can have a rubber or carpet from the shelf at 2 hights .
Most drivers I would assume want predictability of power delivery: with 3 different modes (petrol, electric and both) I don't see how that can work so well. Especially with a CVT gear box, it seems like the inputs of the driver fed through an Enigma machine before getting to the wheels.
I would assume that most drivers are interested in performance, fuel economy and reliability and will not really care when the car uses the electric motor or the internal combustion engine o both, as long as the transition is smooth. 🙂
God, they need to reintroduce Suzuki back to the USA market! I'm just not a "Toyota person"; I hope Suzuki's "fun cars" as you call them continue without Toyota dilution, and if Suzuki expands their market segments via synergies with Toyota, that is probably not a bad thing, as you well highlight. Thanks, furiousdriving! You are ALWAYS my favorite car reviewer as the cars are interesting, more mainstream than exotic-obsessed chasers, and your reviews are very fair and positive. I never understood why many car reviewers are so cynical and negative, and indeed often unnecessarily sarcastic. Isn't sarcasm supposed to be the lowest form of humor?
Its the only form of humor they know. But it gets tired, I agree.
9:35 rear wiper- i think not- thats on the stalk! so what is the button? the picture looks front windscreen shaped
My mum has a heated steering wheel on her Hyundai i10 and that's fierce 🤣
Do you recommend it
When will we see the Suzuki Swag, then? 😃
Thorough review Matt, enjoyed it! Not my taste this Suzuki, the Baleno estate from the 90's was nicer in my opinion.
i think its beautifull but yes the90's baleno was also a nice car
Does this car have a motor, a generator, and an alternator, on top of an engine?
That seems a bit much.
Could they not merge the motor and generator?
You got about 90% of the interior features correct.
I am sorry I had to switch off your auto focus is driving me mad. looks like a great car.
That front end is quite Hyundaiesque
Got some nice shapes and tech. I've just purchased a Haval F7X, i'm blown away by everything on it.....Matt try and do a review on the Haval or the Chery, the Chinese have finally finished trying to sell crap to us!
I just checked their site and they dont have a UK presence yet, maybe when we can travel I can get one in Europe
Thanks for looking. i've had mine for a day, i'll let you know in a few months if i still feel the same.
it really looks like a kia cee'd estate
Wonder if they pronounce it like Versace in Italy. 😉
I saw one just yesterday and had to look twice because i thought it was a Corolla
It is except for the badges
Strangeley, I like its design better than the Corolla it's was badged from?
Not bad for a modern. But why do do many manufacturers put the infotainment screen so it looks like a last minute add on? Puts me right off I'm afraid
Looks identical to an Auris estate
Looks like Toyota was testing the waters before they released the Corolla Hatchback.
Thought badge engineering went out the drain end of the 70`s.....?! But it seems to be a great car, no matter which badge is attached to it👍👍👍
Badge engineering is ever more prevalent now considering how expensive designing car platforms have become.
107, C1 and Aygo. GT86 and BRZ. Supra and Z4. And a plethora of vans based on the Renault Traffic to name a fair few examples.
And if you include platform sharing, it’s even more widespread - think of all the VW, Audi, Seat and Skodas that are basically the same under the skin.
@@emmajacobs5575 I get it with the platform sharing, but simply putting on a new badge, I didnt think was that common anymore (but clearly it is 😉). Platform sharing makes sense, as you spread out th R&D cost on more units. But badging only, creates friction in sales channels and customer confusion. Hmmm.....
the swace is made at toyota derby Burnaston
lol...'curry hooks' for takeaways. Great review Matt. This is how a proper car review should be.
Too much technology though for me and heated steering wheel..? Really!! Do we really need heated steering wheels? Just more to go wrong!
Not my cup of tea (too modern) but an entertaining video all the same 👍
