A lot of this season feels like it’s cleaning up what season 4 left on the ground and setting up for season 6. The season puts Gary back with the monarch, gets rid of the moppits and most of the monarch’s militia, introduces many characters, wraps up plot points and characters like sphinx and monstroso. But that’s also I’d argue the season’s biggest fault. With so much going on, it pushes traditional storylines to the back burner. Also this marks the second season in a row with no central role for Jonas Jr and considering they offed him in the special, I think they could have at least had one episode with him in a major role this season.
He definitely needed something before being taken out. Him and Treister just pop in to pop out of the series. I love the show but it really did feel like season 5 has this sliding scale of quality. It has so much weight on its shoulders but I think it did the best with everything it had to do

I made a super cut of the Clean suit and Halloween Episodes, they don't really flow into each other other than a few references in Clean Suit. But the timeline lets my brain enjoy the season 5 opener that much more. I also watch Shallow Gravy after Operation Prom.
I genuinely believe season 5 was done a disservice with all the pacing issues. Having it all readily available now, really makes me appreciate everything that went into it and seeing gargantua 2 as the proper conclusion helps make it all feel more cohesive. Shallow Gravy is a great come down short after the intensity of Prom.
@@theanimeacademic6383 when I first watched I didn't know of the gargantua or the Halloween episodes so I was very lost when I went into season 6 and they are suddenly rich and rebooted. You need the Halloween episodes to set up the ending of season 5 and the boys discussion about being clones of themselves. And you need the gargantua episode to have a coherent transition to season 6 and give the clean suit episode meaning in retrospect. Otherwise it is just an extra long episode.
What color is your clean suit is always the episode I think of when I think of Venture Bros. Idk if it's one of the best, but I think the story it tells is very interesting and has stuck with me for a while.
I definitely don't think it's the best episode out there, that would probably be Operation Prom or something, but when it comes to the elements presented, even though it's the season 5 intro, it's actually a really good intro to the series if someone just catches it on Adult Swim some idle Sunday. It gives you the characters, drama, stakes, and it's all pretty wrapped up by the end of the episode making people interested in more. It's a very solid venture outing that makes the later seasons more accessible

I dunno there's a magic to how it's designed and the fact there's a special just smack dab in the middle of it that gives you more exposition, really introduces you to how intricately woven the story is which for the time was definitely rare

I would love to see a video recapping the whole series, it's only two seasons, so it could probably be one video. You have to include the Xticles spin off that only got 2 episodes!
