- An overview of the FN 509 Tactical, and why it's one of the best home defense pistols you can own. The pistol is outfitted with a Trijicon RMR and Inforce APL light. The pistol comes with a FN canvas bag, (2) 24 round magazines, and (1) flush 17 round magazine.

I absolutely love mine. Shoots great, reliable, all the features needed, and one of the best lookin pistols in the business.
Excellent gun has all the assesories you would probably put on the gun, but the best feature is that it’s ambi and being left handed it’s a big plus. The only real complaint I would have is the trigger, but hopefully with use the trigger will relax itself.
So I live in Illinois and wasn’t even able to buy the tactical version of the 509 because of the threaded barrel. Glad to see that you were able to get it.
I live in Illinois too… it’s sucks. But after getting my 509 tac… I love that platform. I actually bought a 509cc edge as my edc.
I picked up mine last March (2020). The 509 Tactical with Vortex Venom with the same kit you have (only in black vs FDE @ $899).. When I bought mine, FNH had a special running where I received a Streamlight TLR-7A FREE. Great deal and the dealer had received it the night prior (yup, only had 1 in stock and I snagged it). Right place at the Right time.. Great review!
Nice setup and a helluva deal! Enjoy!
You do know how to equip your FN-509 Tac, the right way. A Trijicon RMR and an Inforce APLC, both in FDE.
I just bought one as well. I carried Glocks my entire LE career, so I still like them. And I love my HK’s as well, but this 509T is sweet! It’s the only pistol I own with an optic. I put a delta point pro NV on mine. Haven’t shot it much, so we will see. The only downside so far with the FN, is the poorly designed striker which many people have had issues with. I called FN about it and they said if it breaks, I can send it to them and they will replace it and they went on to say that many people have done that. This is odd to me, because it sounds like an issue that needs fixed-like a new design and a recall to fix it. So I bought the apex heavy duty striker and installed it. Other than that, it’s sweet!
I've heard the newer models have alresdy been fixed by FN. Keyword is "heard" so it may not he true so the apex still might be necessary
Have you had any problems with the apex striker
I’ve owned many many handguns. From high end 1911s to Glocks to sig, etc. This is my favorite I’ve ever owned. If I could only keep one handgun this is the one. I think you hit nail on the head regarding the trigger criticisms. It was made to be a combat weapon. The trigger is not the best, and you describe it well. Bottom line is despite its flaws it is incredibly accurate. Shooting from a bench at 15 yards I can consistently print 5 round 1/4 inch groups. In terms of reliability, I’ve never had any malfunctions or failures. I’m not an FN fanboy, in fact it’s the only FN I’ve ever owned. The fact is, FN has been making weapons for militaries around the world for decades. When they design/produce a combat weapon you can count on it being just that. And the FN 509 Tactical continues to deliver on that legacy. I hope I never need to use it in defense, however, I know if I ever do it will serve its purpose every time the trigger is pulled. And as you mentioned, it provides the capacity to allow you to pull it more than enough to defend oneself before running empty. Oh yeah, lastly, people criticize the price tag…. Look, do the math, it’s a deal when you consider the cost of adding all the upgrades built into this firearm right out of the factory.
Well said, and I'm in full agreement my friend.
I bought one in black for my first pistol! I get to pick it up on the 25th. I'm so excited!!! I have the apex trigger and striker to put in it and I have a holosun 507c to put in it.
Congrats, and nice pick ups! You’re going to love it!
@@EchoDelta2A I was lucky enough to find a shockwave. It's pretty slick. Haven't shot it yet but it feels sweet.
Great pistol. Not 1 failure on mine.
@@matthellcat2494 good to know. Eats all kinds of ammo?
Great review. Interesting talking points, and I would agree wholeheartedly with your logic here.
I finally broke down n got me one and I feel like it’s the best I carry the Glock as edc cause I rather that one to be taken if I ever had to use it in a situation
Subbed after this vid. I'm down to see more!
I love my FN 509 I think it's the best 9mm on the market very nice trigger shots flat feels great in the hand.....EDC all day....get one.....#LIVE2A
New Sub. Great talking points. Recommend to order the APEX Striker, mine broke after about 1800 rounds..Just a heads up.
Love my FN 509T.
Any problems with apex striker?
Beautiful tool you got there!! Great great review of the firearm!! Update on the trigger? Stock trigger looks spongy.
The Apex trigger makes a difference in smoothness and a crisper break. I wouldn’t call it a necessity, but it definitely looks and feels better!
Put 500-1000 rounds through the pistol. After that polish the internals
Where did you get 19 round flush fit mags? Mine only has 17 rounders.
Did I say 19? If I did, it was my mistake.
Great Channel.
What color RMR is that? I'm trying to find a good match for mine.
This is the FDE variant
I like the flat bag strap
Great review.......where did you get your light from?
I got it from opticsplanet a while back, but I think it's been discontinued for a while.
Those lights suck went threw like 4 of them just sitting in the safe
are you ever worried accidentally pressing the ambi mag release when shooting
Not at all. There's enough pressure needed to where it can't happen by accident.
To elaborate more, your thumb would be riding along side of the mag release button, but slightly on top. You'd need to literally use your other hand to press your thumb firmly up against the button for it to release. Otherwise, you'd need to turn your thumb inward and push the button with the actual tip of your thumb, as usual, to have enough leverage to fully engaged it. I hope that makes sense, but yeah - rest assured it won't happen by mistake on either side of the pistol.
After maybe 500 rounds or so the grit disappears.
Can you give me the link for the apl light
www.reactivegunworks.com/inforce-aplc-glock-weapon-light
Is the rmr fde or coyote brown color
This one is FDE
My trigger got smoother after a couple hundred rounds or so.
Can’t wait to get mine! Only thing is it has to be Mass compliant 😭
I personally prefer black over FDE.
I'm starting too as well. I really like the black/gray two toned look as well. Maybe for the next one lol.
Are they still selling the grey ones? I thought they were only limited run
I legit thought he was about to have an AD lol
😁. I wish that was an option. Not like YT is paying out much for gun vidz nowadays. Lol
@@EchoDelta2A I meant an accidental discharge because it appeared that your gun may have been loaded but I hope you do get monetized because your video was informative
😍😍the sexiest of them all can’t wait to get mine
Sell me that inforce lol
I was so waiting for that gun to go bang when you pulled that trigger after dropping a loaded mag and not checking to see if the chamber was cleared.
Lol. I never chamber a round on any gun in my possession, except for the one near my bedside. And they are checked before the video anyway and just in case. I promise 😁
Funny... mine feels a hair too large.
Are you using the flattest back strap? I'm currently using the smallest, but the medium and large ones definitely make the gun feel bigger.
I also got rid of that stupid large hump backstrap. I was kind of upset with the grip angle and finding I had to buy a special punch to remove it. Got that over with and now I love it
New sub and love mine
Just switch mine with non- treaded barrel coz Illinois gun laws sucks!!!
I definitely feel your pain brother.
@@EchoDelta2A quick question, how about the meta apex chassis for Glocks, smith and Wesson, sig with 16” barrel and stock. Can we buy it in Illinois? Just curious, thanks brother.
As far as I know, they are legal because they are not considered a firearm or assault weapon accessory. The only thing that may complicate that is whether the barrels that they come are threaded or not.
